Avatar 4:05pm TDK60:

Good to hear extra Brew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Michael 98145:

So much music i own goes unplayed because of this station
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm mrdonutsu:

Speaking of Bitches Brew, someone linked me to this Mahavishnu Orchestra page yesterday: www.loudersound.com...
And I observed that you could play all 4 of the MO YouTube clips linked on that page simultaneously and it totally worked!

Just don't also play the Miles clip linked there. Not in the same pocket.
Avatar 4:06pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

i have an original pressing of Bitches Brew, and the mix is SO much different from the remaster you find everywhere else these days. sounds much more natural and like a recording of a live band performing, much more blended together - Miles' trumpet especially is mixed to sound really sharp on the remaster, which is nice and adds to the abstract otherworldyness of it, it's a really good remaster but i think i prefer the OG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Fabio and Failure sect
Avatar 4:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

This 'extra' track almost (almost!) like a 'In a Silent Way' track... Obviously Fusion lets us down when it dilutes the complexity of Jazz & the power & drive of Rawk merely for the sake of compromise - giving the worst of both worlds. How that could derive from the roiling subterranean vibes Miles evokes form his ensemble is a stark cautionary tale indeed... Not everyone got the wrong end of the stick though! & FMU has schooled me that Bitches Brew was not such a barren mother after all ! ...
  4:11pm Smog on the Tyne:

@Michael So much music I own is BECAUSE of this show 😂👍🏼
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Michael 98145:

@Smog on the T, same here ...

Miles in the sky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm coelacanth∅:

BBQJA that must be beautiful. (another thing to add to my shopping list for when i go back in time)
i always shoot for the "least remastered" version i can find.
they did it right the first time, usually - the way the artist envisioned it; but most industry people now think they can improve everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm coelacanth∅:

"to a hammer everything looks like a nail"
Avatar 4:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

An interesting concern in terms of Miles Goes Electric - because the jazz tradition was you set up a few mics & blow ! It's not the mixing, editing or effects. That junk was for Pop & Rawk. & Miles broke that Rule !...
Avatar 4:18pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

@coel it's really nice. and i listen to digital most of the time so it's nice to pull it out as a treat.

i do think some remasters like the Talking Heads one do improve on the original - i think more often than not i prefer an OG mix but sometimes remasters can be better
  4:18pm WM:

Byard Lancaster! Very good, Fabio. Lancaster deserves much wider recognition.
Avatar 4:20pm Fredericks:

This Byard Lancaster is really nice. Makes me think about Spaceways Inc. Ken Vandermark's funky foray.
Avatar 4:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Digital has wider dynamic range - & that seduces people. Whereas it use to be about using the range one had artfully, it might seem...
  4:21pm Mike tp:

Lancaster and candy clouds keepers...
Avatar 4:26pm Bas NL:

Hans Dulfer's a proud export of the NL. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm coelacanth∅:

Josh i have thousands of records that i can't listen to as it is because my floor's too shaky! i don't hate digital, if it's quality...i did get a few albums that refused to sound good on vinyl: love it to death; layla & other love songs; plastic surgery disasters...
and the white album, which i have 3.5 copies of on vinyl but it seems to come out of the sleeve pre-scratched! so i'm Thankful for the cds
Avatar 4:29pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

@rev you hit the nail on the head this is exactly the case with the digital vs original LP master of bitches brew. the digital is way more dynamic and it absolutely works, the LP is just way prettier, more lush and soft. it is really cool to enjoy both versions as it's one of the greater differences in OG vs Remasters i've heard
  4:29pm P-90:

3.5 copies is the OPTIMUM number of White Albums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm coelacanth∅:

i'm curious which talking heads album you refer to. the first 4, which are the only ones i care about, to be honest, i never minded the sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm coelacanth∅:

P-90 haha sure is!
  4:30pm Lake Hiawatha Doug:

Started with Miles and just keeps getting better. Great set. Thanks!
Avatar 4:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm seduced by it myself! Do I want to hear things that happened when TheBeatle were in AbbeyRoad2 that I haven't heard before ?? Yes Please - every last thing that I can...
Avatar 4:32pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

@coel they don't sound bad but if you compare mixes, the remaster is superior IMO. i think Fear of Music which i always thought sounded bad gets the biggest push, but the other big ones (77 / Name of this Band / Remain in Light) all sound better remastered to me
Avatar 4:33pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

More Songs about Buildings and Food i mean...not The Name of This Band is Talking heads....damn run-on titles.
Avatar 4:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I mean - when I was a kid - I'd put say Black Sabbath on my 2nd hand Stereo - & the needle would just skid across it ! Easy to forget all that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm coelacanth∅:

i'll buy that. more songs first grabbed me when i'd smoked some herb and had time to just hang out (aka a teenager) and i was aware of the flatness of the production but the subtlety wooed me in that situation!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm coelacanth∅:

...but yeah 77 and fear of music are definitely a little flat
Avatar 4:36pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

yes. exactly. it's more dynamic, but pretty subtle. to an average person they actually might not even notice much of a difference, but certain intricate details pop a bit more on the remasters
Avatar 4:37pm Bas NL:

And the father of Candy Dulfer.
  4:39pm WM:

And Alan Shorter! Another great underrecognized record.
  4:51pm Periwinkle:

Great show as always, Fabio. For those interested, author/biographer Stephen Davis published a terrific (and short) book based on an interview he did with Miles Davis, simply titled Miles Davis/1973. It covers recording of "Bitches Brew" and "On the Corner," etc.

Defense just got completely owned in the Chauvin trial a few minutes ago, by the way. Prosecutor got the sergeant, Chauvin's direct superior, to say that the restraint should have ended the moment Floyd stopped resisting. Prosecutor had to argue for foundation so that he could get this one question through. Great job.
