Good morning Mr. Drummer! Good morning all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Pedro in Arlington:

You won't be disappointed with the Mind Over Matter book. Even if you're not a huge Fortune fan -- yet. It's one of the greatest labors of published love in the history of great American music. And the color photos are wild. A piece of art on its own. Easily worth the price. Billy and Miriam have preserved what's good about this country.
Avatar 9:43am Stork:

This is getting terribly lovely already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 9:47am Martinibomb:

I thought this show had switched to A440 heh lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Doug Schulkind:

The Catalyst Quartet on this recording comprises Karla Donehew Perez (violin), Jessie Montomgery (violin), Paul Laraia (viola), Karlos Rodriguez (cello). Since the recording, Jessie Montgomery has left the group for a solo career as a violinist and composer. She has been replaced by Abi Fayette.

Avatar 9:55am duke:

Good morn Doug and Drummersomes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Doug Schulkind:

Heavy Dvořák influence with Coleridge-Taylor. Any composer alive back then had better have been so influenced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Doug Schulkind:

Aloha, duke!
Avatar 9:57am TDK60:

This S.C. Taylor is very pretty.
Avatar 9:58am northguineahills:

The Catalyst Quartet is streaming three concerts of music from their Uncovered Project - catalystquartet.com... - featuring African-American composers' work (this recording is also part of that project) presented w/ WQXR and the Greene Space. If anyone's curious, the final concert is coming up on the 15th. It's free although you do need to RSVP - www.thegreenespace.org... . Full disclosure: My day job is at WQXR. But it's a nice thing I think!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Doug Schulkind:

I apologize for my bellicose incitements of the dead.

Welcome to the day, chresti!

You beat me to it, Rob W! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Doug Schulkind:

It's a wonderful thing, Rob W. Glad you shared it!

Avatar 10:06am bobdc:

Rob W: Jessie Montgomery's piece "Strum" that the Catalyst Quartet is going to do on the program is really great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Doug Schulkind:

Jessie Montgomery is one of the violinists on this recording. An "emerging talent" as the A&R flunkies might say.
Avatar 10:09am Listener Gregory:

This was a nice wake-up surprise.
Avatar 10:14am duke:

Thanks for that Doug, I didn't know anything about Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Shows my lack of education.

Origin mid 18th century (originally Scots): perhaps from flank in the sense ‘a person who stands at one's flank’.

Hm. Wouldn't / shouldn't it be "flanky" then?
Avatar 10:16am PAULS:

Flanks very much I'm here all week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
I had another wake-up surprise planned, but I realize consent hadn't been solicited,

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am Doug Schulkind:

@TDK60
Completely new to me. Though I did notice that my Drummer Stream compadre Larry Grogan played a tune by this group on his Bob Dorough special a while back.
