I"m all in favor of getting rid of the stupid shift!
  11:36am clarke:

these rules have been in use in college ball for a while (except for the shift part)
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:36am myron feld:

I like none of these rule changes.
  11:36am P-90:

“SOMETHING had to go...” I hear you, Michael.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:36am Handy Haversack:

Yeah, that extra innings rule is terrible. And restricting the shift is just idiotic. Not good to sacrifice strategy for the most marginal possible gains in terms of time. Make games shorter by limiting commercials.
Avatar 11:37am Joe B:

I love the shift. If hitters are dumb enough/stubborn enough to not adjust, that should be there problem
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:37am Adammets:

The minor leagues used to have 7 inning double headers a long time ago. The MLB changes are purely for COVID and will go back after COVID has passed.
Avatar 11:37am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sports blah blah when you put the antifreeze in the gas tank of the jockstrap hypotenuse of the Sportsball Sports blah blah...
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:38am myron feld:

exactly, Joe B. Don't try to pull every pitch. Try going the other way. It can work.
  11:38am clarke:

while i don't like the shift, joe's right - if you can't show you can beat the shift, then use it!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:38am Handy Haversack:

Adammets, I hope you're right but really don't think so. MLB has revealed itself. Love the game. Hate the league.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:38am Michael in Montclair:

If you want to speed up the game of baseball, look no further than the late George Carlin's proposed rules, such as one strike and you're out.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:38am Greg from ZONE 5:

MLB is hoping to attract new fans by pissing off all of their existing fans, aka "The Metallica Model"
Avatar 11:39am Joe B:

baseball takes too long because batters step out after every pitch and spend 5 minutes adjusting their 12 pieces of body armor

No problem with the shift. Don't like the xtra inning rule. Toronto just eliminated their radio broadcast. Getty Lee just spoke up on this! Imagine getting rid of John and Susan?
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:40am Montmaster J:

Mets Covid related cancellation of opener was so this year....sigh.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:41am Handy Haversack:

Pretty much how I grew up, Doug!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:41am Frank In Queens:

@Montmaster, and so Mets!
  11:41am TimG:

WELL, Michael....while I agree some of the new rules are bunk (Senior Softball Rules...7 innings/runner at second). Baseball has become a home run or strike out affair. I love baseball as much as music but when the ball is not hit in play...the game becomes tedious. The shift has killed the idea of single, sacrifice, bunt, hit and run et al. I rest my case, your honor.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:42am Handy Haversack:

Greg, MLB just needs some fresh characters with an edgy, in-your-face attitude. Maybe ... a dog ... with a surf board? That feels right!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:42am Montmaster J:

@Frank....yup....still love 'em though!

Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:44am Hoboken Jack:

I don't care for the extra inning and doubleheader rules but they did help last year when there were so many cancelations and resultant doubleheaders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am JohnEBGood:

I agree with Joe B. Laying down a a bunt is a way to make the shift pay.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:45am Greg from ZONE 5:

@Handy: Can we rasta-fy MLB by 10%?

In movie news, I watched Mank and then the next day I watched Mank again, because this is America and I can watch Mank as many times as I want.
Also Judas & The Black Messiah deserves a dumptruck full of Academy Awards. Lakeith is so good that I actually worry about him. His level of vulnerability is in the Heath Ledger/Philip Seymour Hoffman zone.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:45am Montmaster J:

@Frank Absolutely....Uncle Steve and Lindor bring new hope....I was not pleased by the new addition to the board though...gave me pause ;(

  11:49am Dennis Diken:

The Jackie & Giants high voice sounded a lot like the guy from The Newbeats
  11:49am phat in Lincoln:

The Beagles' drummer is pretty damn good. Lol. They could use some vocal phrasing tips. Relax guys!

Hey Handy, did you see the cat at last night's Rockies game? Now that's a character!!

The joys of bad unison.

And their smash-hit albums "Feed the Beagles" and "Sit!"!
Avatar 11:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wonder if Jackie & the Giants was timed with the Jack the Giant Killer film - a great sub-Harryhausen stop motion animation flick.
  11:51am Gf2002:

The bass player hit on the wrong chord in the chorus, Macca would not be amused
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:51am Frank In Queens:

@clarke, got 3 in this week. 1984, Bottle Rocket, and Rebecca.

Charlie played the guitar on a really famous country hit. I forget which one.

Good morning, Michael and #1’s! Locally the Blue Jays are having trouble drumming up interest, even amongst loyalists, as they are playing in up to three different stadiums this season, none of them in Canada. Hopefully radio coverage will return in the future.

The World of Charlie McCoy is not to scale.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:52am Frank In Queens:

Also watched the "Screaming Skull" episode of MST3K, which tied in with Rebecca pretty nicely.
  11:53am clarke:

how so? a satire of Rebecca?
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:54am Frank In Queens:

That's all the Hitch I have for now, so yeah. But there's still more I haven't seen in awhile or at all.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:54am Frank In Queens:

@clarke, it's loosely based on Rebecca, or at least was until they decided to turn it into a horror film at the last minute.
  11:55am phat in Lincoln:

What someone needs to do is start a fake Beagles band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am JohnEBGood:

Hey Andre you should support the Expos I’m wearing their hat and drinking a Labatt’s mug full of 50 right now waiting for 1:05pm
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 11:56am Montmaster J:

Wait....is THAT Willie Nelson?!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:56am Frank In Queens:

Most people ask that question JohnEBGood.
  11:57am phat in Lincoln:

I wish I new what to call that kind of beat on that Willie Nelson. It's "funky" but really it's not all that funky. It was everywhere. From stuff like that to 70s Broadway.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 11:57am Frank In Queens:

Damn, I could go for a Labatts 50!
Avatar 11:57am Joe B:

@Listener Baby - McCoy plays guitar on a few of the Dylan Nashville sessions
  11:58am phat in Lincoln:

Holy crap, this Robbie Fulks is like the best of 70s and contemporary country. This is impressive as all hell.

  12:00pm phat in Lincoln:

That chord progression and arrangement in the chorus is definitely post 1990s. But the rest is way 70s. Damn.

  12:02pm Andres:

captain mike: Which game are you talking about? A rebroadcast? Also, I’m out of 50 so may have to settle for a Molson Old Style Pilsner.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Handy Haversack:

Joe, that brewery across the street from Rutt's had opened, so we stopped in there to use the bathroom and grab some cans to go before heading home yesterday. Took as long to find a parking spot in Greenpoint as it did to drive here from Clifton!
  12:05pm phat in Lincoln:

Unky, Phoebe, and Fatty Ann is quite a band name.
  12:05pm Andres:

I did see that ‘Tom Brady is bringing back the Expos’ bit and almost blew my top before realizing what day it was.
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Frank In Queens:

@clarke, yeah. I hadn't seen BR in ages. Still great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Spinning Giant:

@John EB Good & @Andres - first Ive heard here of the cancellation of Blue Jay radio broadcasts - I'm of 2 minds on this: 1. glad to never have to listen to Whiny Mike Wilner (hopefully ever) again; 2. bummed as that is my most enduring connection to ball - listening on the transistor radio, usually while outside working in the yard or whatever, or on a roadtrip somewhere -

it seems like alienating traditional enthusiasts a la Metallica is indeed the order of the day ...

failing to grasp how that makes sense financially (ostensibly the motivation), but hey, what do I know...?
  12:06pm clarke:

how the heck did wes talk caan into being in his film at that time????
Avatar 12:06pm Joe B:

@Handy - cool. I actually have never gone in there. great seeing you yesterday!
Avatar #1 Hit Supporter Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Listener Baby:

Baby. Can you tell us what your inspiration/idea was to interview Bergen?
  12:06pm Andres:

Bottle Rocket - Maybe more a Wilson brothers film than a Wes Anderson film.
