Good Afternoon Julie and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Handy Haversack:

Evening, David. Hope your Tuesday passed along peacefully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey Julie, we became bird owners! Two little defective zebra finches that needed a home. A white one that had an injured wing that required surgery and fully plumaged one with a paralyzed leg. The pet store said they could not sell them but we could adopt them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Julie:

hey Sylvia, Aitch, Modd & Mr Nobody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Handy Haversack:

Julie, we e-mailed through the Adoption Gallery page to adopt Cannibal, but it doesn't look like it's gone through yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Julie:

oh Phillippe that is wonderful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Aitch:

Quite the dilemma this time slot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm coelacanth∅:

this is a bit Sharon Van Etton...ish
and quite nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm coelacanth∅:

this time slot is problematic for me as well. because i have to go work.
aaaany minute now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm David (in London):

Hey Sylvia.

Coela, never work, that's the best solution. Or sleep either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Julie:

@Handy yes I haven't heard a peep!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Aitch:

Just starting work myself
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Handy Haversack:

Hmmm, I hate to bother Joe McG at a time like this ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Julie:

Handy that is more a John Dalton thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm coelacanth∅:

David i'm trying that out. my landlord doesn't yet know how he feels about the idea.
- the not sleeping is covered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Julie we hear peeps all the time during your mic breaks! And an occasional squawk or two
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Julie:

ahh yes this is true!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm David (in London):

Coela. I'm happy to provide a letter of support to your landlord if that might help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

sadly have to tune out for a bit -- qc-ing narration...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Julie:

see you soon Phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm David (in London):

Macca's string arrangement here is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Handy Haversack:

coela, would it help if David and I were to shout "And who elected you landord?" at them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Phillippe Bastille:

(well, gonna leave after this Bongos -- one of my all-time favorite rekkids!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Julie:

woohoo!
Avatar 3:21pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Aaaargghh, nearly missed this (the summer hours have not hit our clocks yet), but anyways, Hello Julie and other souls of the dark night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm David (in London):

Aloha Cha Cha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Julie:

HI Cha Cha!!
Avatar 3:24pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hello David, hope things are OK over there in London (whoah, this spring it's five years I've visited there the last time, time flies and there used to be this thing called traveling...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Handy Haversack:

Glad to see you, Cha Cha!
Avatar 3:25pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Likewise Handy, how are you doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm coelacanth∅:

Handy (@316) i'm picturing peanuts characters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm coelacanth∅:

David yes letters will be appreciated. it wont help but i'll appreciate them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm David (in London):

Cha Cha, travelling, blimey, yes. Well, if you somehow make it back here in in the coming five years, then I'm buying the first round of drinks.
Avatar 3:30pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@3:28 David (in London): I'll keep that in mind, cheers! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm listener james from westwood:

Depeche!
Avatar 3:31pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

DM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm David (in London):

Ah, we're coming in Essex-strong here.
Avatar 3:33pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

he has the best voice 🖤
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Handy Haversack:

Hanging in, Cha Cha! Warm enough to sit outside in the afternoons now, so I'm back here with the birds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Hello Julie and DNOTS! The day my friend loaned me his cassette of DM’s Black Celebration, my life changed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Julie:

hiya Rich!
Avatar 3:35pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Rich my brother started listening to them around the time the album got out, I fell in love
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

@Sylvia - I like Martin’s voice as much as I do David’s
Avatar 3:37pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@me too, and I love when Martin does harmonies, their voices go so well together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

I like the stuff with Vince Clark as well, but clearly he had to find his own way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm David (in London):

I liked the way Vince Clark's departure allowed Martin Gore to flourish, but I can't help but think that his career never quite achieved the longevity it might have done as a result. That said, apparently he is known for growing bored of projects quite quickly, so I guess he was really his own worst enemy in that respect. DM remain ace 40 years later.
Avatar 3:46pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I've become more fond of Yazoo than Depeche Mode as I have become older, earlier it was the other way around. Go Basildon, you pearl of Essex!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Julie:

I really know nothing about DM
  3:47pm P-90:

Nice set!
Avatar 3:47pm βrian:

David (IL): Just got the jab. I felt absolutely nothing. No poke, no twinge. Nada.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Julie:

thanks, P-90!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Julie:

Hurray Brian!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm David (in London):

Cha Cha, I saw Alf Moyet supporting Tears for Fears about three years ago, and she was still absolutely fantastic.

Good work βrian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Handy Haversack:

Excellent, βrian!
Avatar 3:52pm Mod Mokka Matti:

@Cha Cha: I've become much the same as you in that sense - I was a huge DM fan from Junior High through Uni, but sometime after Playing the Angel, I just kind of moved on to other interests. I have certainly pulled out my Yazoo albums and been listening to Alison's solo work, more than I've listened to/acquired the newer DM output.
Avatar 3:53pm βrian:

It is a relief. And it means 7YrOld will be able to go back to school. Yippee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Very nice, βrian. I just got an appointment for first jab for this Saturday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Julie:

yay Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm chris in the redwoods:

nice, βrian!

i didn't feel the jab either. then had covid arm. my wife and i both had a pretty strong reaction from the first jab, a few days in. may indicate we had already been exposed to the virus. my second jab is still two weeks out. so much hope for a return to "normal" :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm David (in London):

Swindon in the house!
Avatar 3:56pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@3:50 David (in London): now that's a proper night out, A. Moyet & Tears for Fears, envy here. Did you see the Yazoo reunion shows? I completely missed them, lived in UK back then, but have heard about it only a few years ago. There were US & European shows as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Handy Haversack:

Also, βrian, the dog actually did shop today! I was looking for a place to tie him up outside the grocery store, and the manager said to just bring him inside. "You sure? It's OK?" "Ahh, they're more human than we are."

OK then.

I wasn't going to turn it down, but let's just say that Bagpipe did not devote himself to making the wheeled basket any easier to handle.

Chris, my dr. told me that two weeks after the first, you're pretty much 92 percent immune. The second boosts it only marginally but extends the duration greatly. So you can start breathing at least a little easier now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Aitch:

Bought a mint Drums and Wires LP the other day from a trader friend. Only ever had XTC as tapes
Avatar 3:57pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Moi Mod Mokka Matti, mitä kuuluu?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Julie:

I'm still hiding at home but Friday will be two weeks post 2nd shot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Julie:

hey who let growly guy on this song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm B R M:

@Aitch Great find, great album!
Avatar 4:01pm βrian:

Only when you got home did you notice all the dog treats in the bag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Handy Haversack:

He also doesn't help carry the bags.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Julie:

did I say hi Brian? HI BRIAN!
Avatar 4:02pm βrian:

Salut, DJ Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm chris in the redwoods:

i liked growly guy.

thanks, Handy! will do.
Avatar 4:03pm Mod Mokka Matti:

@Cha Cha: That's a difficult question to answer, whether in English (far easier), or in Finnish. It's a day-by-day situation out here. Hope things are going well for you where you are. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm chris in the redwoods:

i really liked that Ali Synesthesia cut, though the idea of not feeling pleasure is incredibly depressing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Handy Haversack:

Maybe they have other albums, Chris.
Avatar 4:07pm βrian:

Have the culinary mashups petered out, then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Aitch:

Johnny Cougar started better than he finished
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm David (in London):

Cha Cha, no sadly I didn't. That would have been great. That said I did also see Alison Moyet sing as the 'replacement' for Lee Brilleaux in the Dr Feelgood reunion at the launch party for the Oil City Confidential documentary. They were awesome with her singing.
Avatar 4:09pm Mod Mokka Matti:

The inability of feeling pleasure is a core element of depression itself... at least in my world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm chris in the redwoods:

they do indeed, Handy. aliasynesthesiamusic.bandcamp.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm David (in London):

John Cougar looks about 12 in that photo.
Avatar 4:10pm Mod Mokka Matti:

Johnny Cougar Cub
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm chris in the redwoods:

yes, indeed, Mod Mokka Matti. absolutely no pun was intended. perhaps poor choice of words on my part.
Avatar 4:12pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@4:03 Mod Mokka Matti: glad to hear you're OK, haven't seen you for a while here. Considering the circumstances, OK here. A few regions aside, pubs closed nationwide, restaurants takeaway only etc. There was even discussion of following the European route of enforced lockdown (should things get worse), like proper curfew with only necessary grocery & pharmacy shopping allowed. Hasn't happened yet, hopefully won't, but...
Avatar 4:13pm Mod Mokka Matti:

@Chris: No need to worry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Julie:

hi Mod Mokka!
Avatar 4:27pm Mod Mokka Matti:

@Julie: Ooh, this Wendy Rule track is nice! Will have to look into more of her work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Julie:

whew Mod thanks for saying something, thought I was alone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm David (in London):

Mm, I liked that Wendy Rule track, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm woj:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Julie:

Howdy Woj!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Handy Haversack:

Still here, Julie! I started editing an essay for a friend and quickly realized that it is more than cocktail time.

"Let there be more light" is a rather apt request for those of us in Western Washington - lots of clouds outside (again).

No but these new lights make it feel like a hospital. Sooooo bright.

G'day TDK! ✌😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm WaffleMix:

Hey Julie, used to listen this this a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm luka:

when i was very young, my cousin pulled me aside at a family party and played KC's "frame by frame" for me, altering the chemicals in my brain permanently.
Avatar 4:52pm TDK60:

Good mornin' over there, Scott67.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Julie:

hiya Waffle! Hi Luka!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm luka:

hi Julie ^_^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm WaffleMix:

Don't recall the time frame now, but there must have been a lot of cross-influence with the Talking Heads/Tom Tom club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Oh my goodnesssss! Their Majesties! King Crimso his selfs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, luka. It's been several :42s.

Scott, I like a Bronx, that's for sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Aitch:

Below played on the records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm woj:

nice, handy! jameson's here - still got some left over from the traditional march 17th bottle...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Aitch:

Belew, bloody spellcheck.
Avatar 4:55pm TDK60:

Yeah WaffleMix. Adrian Belew was one of many collaborators on the Remain In Light album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm luka:

@handy work has been intense so i have no time to chat crap on here it's dreadful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

I have read that at some point TH thought of dumping Byrne and having Belew join full time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm WaffleMix:

@TDK60 right! I might have known that - I love Remain in Light.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Handy Haversack:

Urgh, sorry, luka. I'm in a suspiciously light work cycle for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm chris in the redwoods:

yeah, it is quite selfish of our work to keep us from the comments community. sheesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Work would be better if it was less workish
  5:01pm David in London:

Chris, yes, that’s what I said at my exit interview...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm chris in the redwoods:

i hope you didn't just jinx yourself, Handy. about the time i think those thoughts, my boss pings me. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Scott67:

Julie, just catching up here, after a hot date with an espresso machine. No sun here for 4 days of rain, Aitch is probably floating up in NSW. Massive flooding up there.
Avatar 5:02pm TDK60:

Oh, this outfit looks up when playing, not at their sneaks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

@TDK their sound might suggest otherwise. And what a sound it is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm chris in the redwoods:

"oh, its not you, its me. i need more time to listen and comment at wfmu." something like that, David?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Handy Haversack:

Chris, of course, as I type that I'm editing an introduction on the phenomenology of warnings for a friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm woj:

stargazer lilies have the perfect sound to spend 4 minutes staring at chris' animated user icon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Julie:

ugh Sorry to hear about the flooding
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Julie:

now I want to give shoegaze soundtracks to the old silent films, WOJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm chris in the redwoods:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Handy Haversack:

Shoegaze and Jameson's, soda back.
  5:07pm David in London:

Chris, did HR leak my comments to you? That’s uncanny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

G'day, Scott. I hope your house is free of snakes & spiders. I've heard reports of the critters coming in from the rain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Scott67:

We are a land of extremes Julie, on a Planet made more extreme by human actions. No human lives lost so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Julie:

I think there was bad flooding in Kauai as well, I have a friend out there
Avatar 5:09pm Mod Mokka Matti:

As someone who grew up with and continues to tend to a large garden (to preserve what sanity I have left), and loves shoegaze, It's hard not to dig that Stargazer Lilies track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm chris in the redwoods:

i heard a pledger from Princeville credited, during the marathon. which made me dream of Kauai, natch. did not know the flooding had returned. dang it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Julie:

my friend lived in princeville a long time. now she's in um kapaa or something maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Scott67:

G'day Ken, thanks mate. No flooding here, or critters in my house that weren't here already. 😉 I do feel for the animals trying to cope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Scott67:

Julie, I hope your friend is okay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Julie:

she is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm chris in the redwoods:

also, i hesitate to say, but does a book on the phenomenology of warnings, itself, come with a warning?

Kapa'a is a nice place, too :) Sam's Ocean Front is a frequent haunt, when we're on the island.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Handy Haversack:

Scott, as I understand it, capacity is unlimited, though "only" 2,000 can be displayed on the site.

Chris, I guess consider yourself warned? If the title doesn't do it, what will?
  5:21pm Phil in Framingham:

Go record shopping! Buy a copy of red. It exists. It’s good. Ditto your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Handy Haversack:

Hiya Phil! Thank you, that is the other KC I have. But yes miss record shopping so much!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

Wow, stuck my head back in just the right time. Tusk is my favorite Fleetwood Mac. You are hitting all my faves today, Julie!

Hahaha! Handy, the Zoom hydration support team.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

There's a little Dolly Parton in her voice here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Julie:

more and more I'm appreciating other members of FM but Stevie is still my go to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Julie:

I wish I could like Dolly's voice She is a great person and a phenomenal songwriter but I just can't listen to much of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Ditto in 6 minutes I get to split from work and bolt for the Roll ‘n Roaster...battling the Belt Parkway all the way...screw the diet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

Fleetwood Mac evolutions are crazy. Hard core blues band to Bob Welch airiness to Buckingham-Nicks pop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Julie:

which one is the Airy album?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Julie:

is it Trees? I bet it's Trees
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

That Bob Welch era was a necessary transition to the Buck-Nicks Mac.
Avatar 5:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mac in the beginning like an offshoot from John Mayall... Trippy that Green's hallucinatory anxieties involved seeing Mac as something that would become some kind of great & evil capitalist force. :) ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Julie:

I listened to the first moody blues album one time. Once. It was so boring. It sounded like everything else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Julie:

@Rev is Creamo on the other side of the equator from me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Julie:

it's always winter in my hemisphere
  5:32pm David in London:

Wading in to mention Peter Green. Because, well, he was Peter Green.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

Bare Trees was great, was thinking of Mystery to Me though for Welch. I think of Bare Trees more Danny Kirwin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Julie:

I must now be moving towards Australia. Knave and Scott get ready
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Julie:

ah Mystery to Me I do not have, I will have to listen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Future Games was the first with Welch Mystery to Me has Hypnotized on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Phillippe Bastille:

I haven't listened to it in years -- it may not be as airy as I just advertised lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Scott67:

Ready to receive Julie! 👍😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Phillippe Bastille:

There's something Futurama-ish about that Sasami cover. Is that Richard Nixon's head?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Scott67:

Pacific is a big Ocean, but you should try Australia to Britain Julie. That's a long one.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Julie:

I hate that too but at least it's over relatively soon. That being trapped in a plane all that time gets to me, I didn't think I was claustrophobic but apparently I have a problem with not being able to leave

Amtrak sleeper cars are the way to go. Not anxiety inducing at all, at least for me.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Aitch:

Just before virus they did some test flights Sydney NYC direct. It was about 18 hrs, but only 50 people, still figuring the fuel. 13 odd hours Sydney LA, but you arrive at the same time you left. Two days to get back though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Scott67:

You could go overland & sea Julie. But it would be more risky than a flight nowadays,
Avatar 5:53pm Mod Mokka Matti:

I have travelled cross-country from Seattle and Tacoma several times via Amtrak, but never in a sleeper - Somehow, I managed to do fine traveling in coach - but spent a lot of time hanging out in the observation lounge or the cafe cars... but then, that was in a different lifetime in the late '90s/early 2000s.

@RR63 Same abstinence for me. I just realized last week that I literally haven't had a drink in years. Pharmaceuticals, yes. Alcohol, no.
Avatar 5:58pm Mod Mokka Matti:

@Handy: Speaking of the (presumably) Coast Starlight, I just learned yesterday that the southbound train from Seattle collided with a dump truck on the tracks in Oakland a few days ago - that would be far from a party for anyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm HyperDose:

Honestly? I'm the exact opposite of okay. No human interaction and I'm on a weed tolerance break because of all the current stress in my life (loneliness, trying to move, I think something might be wrong with my cat, my family doesn't care or ever reach out, and my therapist is fully booked), so just been crying sporadically while I slowly lose my mind. Fun times over here! haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar 6:03pm Mod Mokka Matti:

@HyperDose: Oh, that all sounds very similar to my own situation, save for the fact that I lost my Schnauzer companion last July after a seemingly sudden illness, further complicated by all the Covid restrictions/uncertainties concerning seeing our vet, so I have only myself to talk to these days... I can definitely relate, and hope things improve for you, if even a little.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Handy Haversack:

Oof, MMM, that's so sad for you. We have lost many pets over the years, but I think if we had lost one last year, it would have been a tough one to recover from. That said, "Is something wrong with the cat?" could be a tattoo we both get.

Ugh, TDK60, very sorry to hear it, friend.

It's a race between variants & vaccines is my understanding. I can never understand why Society & the Govt. aren't in full WWII mode to unify & mobilize & message... Well - I know why & how it is this way - I just hate it... & it doesn't have to be...
Avatar 6:08pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm HyperDose:

Thank you so much Julie, Cha Cha, Handy, RRN63, Phillippe, Scott, Mod, Chris, & Sylvia. As an introvert who's been alone for most of my short time on this Earth, I thought I'd be cut out for pandemic life. Just sucks I'm starting to lose it right when it seems we may be out of the woods. I really hope I get the vax soon. The biggest help is knowing you're not the only one going through it. And for that I thank you lovely people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Phillippe Bastille:

We have a bit of a dilemma in my household regarding the vaccine. My middle son does not want to get it. A handful of years ago he had a really bad reaction to a medication and had a psychotic break requiring hospitalization. Although it was from an interaction between a couple different meds for a mood disorder, he doesn't want to have anything to do with any meds (except for pot -- he's more than ok with that). I don't want him to have to do anything he doesn't want to do (he's 25 so what can I do anyway, right?), and the rest of us will be fully vaccinated by the end of the first week in April. But damn, I worry about him, particularly since he is in sales
Avatar 6:10pm TDK60:

Thanks all. We gotta community spirit here. RevRab- Yeh, I've been smirking about all this normal stuff. Hee!
Avatar 6:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I have also basically always been a loner - so it's the Introverts' moment right? But I also fear this just reinforces the not so good aspects of this for me & my behaviors... Was also in my old age *just starting* to play Music with people & even play in font of people - when WHOMP. Yerknow...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Handy Haversack:

Normal was pretty awful and soul- and life-destructive -- but we could see our friends and bands. It would have been nice if we took this occasion to leave normal in the dust (e.g., "the economy is suffering? guess what -- we don't need an economy").

That said, hopefully soon we can see more and more of our friends and bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm WaffleMix:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm chris in the redwoods:

Phillippe, i feel that. my wife got GBS (a shitty neurological disorder) from a flu vaccine a few years ago. it was a very long process to get her informed about how the covid vaccine we got differs from the flu shot. def. one of the bravest things she's done recently, regardless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm HyperDose:

@TDK60 I was very close with my old neighbor who lived across the hall (passed away last year, not COVID). I'd help him out with tech stuff, cleaning, groceries, and was always happy to stop by for a gossip. Didn't realize that his companionship was beneficial to me too. I miss him dearly as I'm sure you do your neighbor, and I'm very sorry for your loss.

As Scott Williams observed - Civilization really needs a Reset - & it was an opportunity... Otoh - plague got 'Sleepy'Joe elected I think we can agree... (& he's quite busy TY very much...)

Thanks Hyperdose, not a close friend but a neighbor one says hello to in the lobby or elevator.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Julie:

it should be obvious to companies how much productivity was lost through commuting and other normal getting to work effort and time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Handy Haversack:

Mais oui, Sylvia. Intro- or extro-, we all lost a lot of the things that psychically let us feel safe, and that's a trauma. And that's not what the "recovery" is focusing on. We should all be OK with acknowledging that we have been and are being traumatized. You gotta let yourself feel it sometimes.

Wow, Chris, that's *hard*. And hard core!

Getting a bunch of shots before my Africa trip took me out of remission. Trip wasn't worth it but not getting sick and dying might be
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm chris in the redwoods:

i'm with you, Handy and RevRab. we really need to take this time to undo the harm of the old normal and build a new economy based on fairness and compassion rather than inequality and war.

man I love this album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm HyperDose:

@WaffleMix He's doing that thing where he's cleaning himself and pulling hair out on his back. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but it's still terrifying because he's all I have.
@TDK60 Even that can be a comfort. I will be sure to say hi to you in the "halls" of the ACCU when I see you. :)
@Julie Me too. Yesterday was huge for me. I got out-out for the first time in like 5yrs, rode the train, light rail, got in a car ( I loathe being a passenger), and looked at apartments with a realtor. That was huge for me.

I'm sitting outside listening to sparrows, starlings, titmice, bluejays, one harbinging robin, Tori, and Julie(!!!), which does make the world a touch easier to take. The light is doing that *thing*. And I am talking to people I care about and would help if there were any way to do so.

So I guess tl;dr: Thanks, WFMU (and spring).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Julie:

oh! this is a cover? I didn't know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Julie:

woohoo handy! sounds nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

@chris there are definitely weird things that can happen from the flu vaccines, good and bad. I used to get sinus infections all the time, haven't in a number of years. I was talking to a work friend about that and she said she had the same experience. Her doctor attributed it to a flu shot, and darn if that doesn't seem to be the same thing for me. I don't get the flu shot every year but the year the sinus infections stopped was the last time I got the flu vaccine

@Hyperdose could be food allergy. Yes it's awful because they can't tell you what is wrong. And cats are so picky- mine wasn't eating so she wouldn't even eat her medication. But she is much better (for now...)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Handy Haversack:

Me neither, Rev Rab. But a year without getting a cold is making me think that wearing a mask on the subway going forward might not be the worst idea!

HyperDose and WaffleMix (and all interNal capiTals): We started our 18-yr.-old cat on Standard Process's Renal Support and Whole Body Support supplements a couple of years back, and it was revolutionary. A vet has to prescribe it so you can get an account to order it on your own, but to us it's been really worth it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm HyperDose:

Thank you WaffleMix. I'm sure it's nothing, but he's 10 and any little change in his demeanor sends up red flags. Have an appt next week so we'll see.
@Handy My cat only eats dry food, how do you administer them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm WaffleMix:

@Handy thanks, she's a puker, and inexplicably switched overnight from wet food (including chicken and eggs I would cook myself) to crappy dry kibble. But she eats it so...
  6:30pm David in London:

Yes, sorry, had to duck out for a spot of late dinner there.
Handy, who will rid me of this turbulent prune, as the old saying goes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Handy Haversack:

We crush up the pills into wet food (we forced them all off dry food, a battle of wills that will be sung among the stars until the last light goes out). Our vet is *super* anti-dry-food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Phillippe Bastille:

Handy, we had absolutely the coolest nature thing I've ever seen in person last week (forgive me if I've said this before cuz I've told EVERYONE!). An osprey swooped down and grabbed a rather large fish from out of the cove and tried to fly off. He was having trouble getting and staying airborne, the fish was so darn big. He circled around and dropped the fish, which had apparently expired because it floated right back to the surface. Before the osprey could circle back for another attempt, a big-ass freakin' bald eagle swooped down and grabbed the fish! The osprey then chased the eagle around the bend, so I'm not sure how the story ended, I doubt they shared the fish and a bottle of wine

@wafflemix back when we had both cats and dogs, we found the best remedy for a puker cat was bringing a dog into the room. No need for a paper towel even after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm HyperDose:

@Handy My little Pepé won't touch pate or shredded cat food. He only ever ate the flaked fish in sauce (very hydrating for him which I loved). Maybe I'll try and get him on it again. I just feel bad because he doesn't touch it and I don't want to feel like I'm starving him.

Avatar 6:48pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Julie, have you ever heard the Finnish band Shadowplay? Plenty of piano there btw. Think Lou Reed/VU meets The Only Ones (or late 70s/early 80s british stuff in general) meets Iggy(solo & stooges), mixed with a smoky jazz nightclub feel. I guess their complete works are in Spotify (a compilation titled Morgue). Absolutely recommended to anyone. They never got the attention or praise they deserved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm HyperDose:

Agreed Scott. This is a good bunch! Society may give us the stink eye, but damn the man!
