Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

The font on your playlist is all extra special like. I like! Is that new, or did I just have a stroke?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm northguineahills:

Got two hours of sleep, but a lot of work done during Doug's show (somehow). Gonna take a wee nap before throwing job apps at the wall (got interview at a place I actually want to work at).

Avatar 12:16pm Stork:

I was hinkydinkin down the street the other day...
Awwwww, who did I meet?
I met a friend of mine and he did say...
Man I can bibbidi-boddidi-boo your breath a mile away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Cmurtha:

It is sounding good UM. I'd say, maybe a bit "clearer" forgive my lack of audio-phile and audio engineering jargon. But, I got fancy headphones and an amp and it sounds nice. Though, you always sound good. I have noticed since the transition to pandemic mode the alt stream DJs tend to have better audio quality than the at home main streamers. Also volume has been low on the mainstream on some shows.
Avatar 12:16pm duke:

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo to you all.

Avatar 12:23pm Stork:

My sadistic older brother would just keep singing this song until - well, I HAD to kill him, can you blame me?
Avatar 12:23pm HyperDose:

@Phillippe Annapolis is beautiful. I'll grab a kayak and meet you out there!
  12:23pm Andres:

Anyone else using Safari for the playlist have the Post Comment button cut off from the page layout? It is fine for other show pages. I switched to chrome where it is partially cut off, but accessible.
Not that I have an immediate need to post anything important or even intelligent but it could happen :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Uncle Michael:

We won't tell, Stork.

  12:24pm dan:

Do I sense a theme in today's show
Avatar 12:24pm Stork:

Oh, shit! I didn't dare tequest 3 little fishies, but did i want to hear it next? uh, yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Uncle Michael:

But you wanted to hear Ish Kabibble. Am I right?
Avatar 12:25pm Stork:

My mom sang this song to us endlessly. No, I didn't kill her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Uncle Michael:

Andres, thanks for that report. I might have overcooked the css.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh - saw them tour together.
  12:30pm dan:

Did Richard Thompson write the song and/or just play on the Loudon track?
Avatar 12:32pm Jeff Moore:

But are you using the fancy new board today?
  12:33pm dan:

I can hear the resemblance in voice between Loudon and Rufus.
Avatar 12:34pm Stork:

Moe Howard so ripped off Ish Kabbible's look.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Uncle Michael:

Jeff! Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm northguineahills:

Spanky and the Gang, that goes WAYYY back (although my parents were in college back then) (I have a thing for educational songs)
Avatar 12:39pm Stork:

Nice board. Do I spy 4 stereo and one mono channel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Uncle Michael:

Loudon wrote it all by himself, dan.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm northguineahills:

huh, a cumbia rekkid I don't have....
  12:46pm Andres:

¡Cumbia! This one is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Uncle Michael:

Andres, you'll get used to my cumbia fetish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm northguineahills:

UM's cumbia fetish is maybe only second to mine. It was former WFMU dj /rupture that got me into it, and motivated me to take dj tour in Mexico....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Doug Schulkind:

I believe there is an OTC ointment for cumbia fetish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Uncle Michael:

I wish I could get Jace to return my email!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Uncle Michael:

I have the ROTC ointment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Doug - to cure or lubricate it ?? Asking for ...somebody...
  12:51pm Andres:

You can only treat the condition. There is no cure.

  12:56pm Andres:

The Kinks. A whole other fetish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Doug Schulkind:

This gal Franklin is pretty good. Does she have any other records out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm chresti:

I see a thing in the corner that wasn't there before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, dan. Simply credited as "Aretha" on this album. Her brief flirtation with the mononym.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Uncle Michael:

what thing, chresti?
Avatar 12:59pm HyperDose:

Isn't that redundant? A kink is a fetish, and vice versa.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm chresti:

It looks like speakers in an oldy timey cabinet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm northguineahills:

@Hyperdose: from my understanding, a kind a specific less then usual sexual arousal. A fetish, is a group of kinks. (my sexual tendancies are very boring, so I can be wrong, it's what some of my friends tell me).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm northguineahills:

UM's Spanish pronunciation has improved in the last few years.

@Hyperdose: yeah, i have friends whom's sexual proclivities are more exciting then mine (way past the TMI stage)

So great to hear a cut from "Chet Baker Sings." Had anyone here seen the quasi-biographical film from Showtime, "Almost Blue," starring Ethan Hawke as Mr. Baker? Not bad, with some really good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

Gerry! I have not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm northguineahills:

thanks, listener 126464!
  1:25pm Gerry from Miami:

And thanks, Uncle Michael, for those two gorgeous tunes from Aretha and Dionne Warwick. Diamonds among the zirconia.

My pleasure, Gerry.

Well done, Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

@northguineahills I tear out articles I want to read and put them in the bathroom so I feel if I put them in a laundromat or something they'd just annoy people.
  1:31pm Gerry from Miami:

Damn, that Franco character who spilled his coffee sure sounds a lot like actor Charlie Sheen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Franco Twinkie:

I am indeed! But, like everybody else I feel the call of Spring. I just might go outside and ponder the disaster that is our front yard...but not just yet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm northguineahills:

@Sweet Corn Lizzie: When I find free internet jukeboxes at bars/clubs, I fill them up w/ stuff I like to annoy the crowd and leave (probably wouldn't work at some clubs in NYC).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm northguineahills:

Not usually a Elvis Costello fan, but, I like this!
Avatar 1:36pm Stork:

Wow, first time I've heard this version, though i knew it was out there. Tina Turner does a great version too - with Herbie H.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Franco Twinkie:

Oh yes! Joni is a fasinating study in contradictions. And such a lovable old crank!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Dear Elvis, please stick with rock n roll, thanks

But I agree Joni is a lovable old crank

  1:43pm Gerry from Miami:

Remembering when Joni's album, "The Hissing of Summer Lawns," was released, Rolling Stone magazine called it the "worst album of the year." A lot they know about music! Elvis does a good job on "Edith" here. But Tina Turner also covers it on Herbie Hancock's Grammy-winning Album of the Year, "The Joni Letters." Excellent, as always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

I need to check out Tina's version.

  1:45pm Jeff g. via app:

Good choogle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Franco Twinkie:

Elvis and Joni both will/did go out of there way to follow their own muse, even though the results sometimes baffled and angered their fans. But hey, if you need to hear Watching The Detectives or For The Roses for that particular spine tingling thrill, they are eternally trapped on vinyl, have at it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Uncle Michael:

Well said, Franco. I've done alright letting them have their heads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Franco true. Tho' I think Joni has the edge on ElvisC here...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Saw ElvisC open for Dylan - & wasn't even expecting him !! A great bonus! ElvisC did only solo acoustic - & Bob just the band. That was canny, I think... No damn complaints here I can tell you.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Franco Twinkie:

I saw Joni at the Anaheim Convention Center in 1974 when she was touring Court and Spark, and Elvis in 1978 at Hollywood High. In both cases, seat were torn out, curtains started on fire, and the audience had multiple orgasms. Both shows caught for posterity if anyone need proof. Is any artist capable of operating at such a high level for eternity? Me thinks not.
