I cannot help but stop and look at dear jules.
Never forget the sincere and heartfelt jules.
All that is old is not bucko,
bucko, by all account is young.
Now girlish is just the thing,
To get me wondering if the bucko is puppyish.
I cannot help but stop and look at the yellow virgo.
Does the virgo make you shiver?

cars made now they probably are though.

what year's your land rover? (i know you told us once)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am

1995 tdi Defender 110 wagon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am
Scott67:

I do have a 2000 model Discovery as well that has the tech in it. But have never enjoyed it like the seat of your pants experience in the Defender.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am
coelacanth∅))):

you know the defender has *no* computers? it seems unlikely for a british vehicle from '95...but i don't know land rovers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am
coelacanth∅))):

i know my volvo 240s had them going back at least to 1987, and i'm pretty sure the 84 had it...just for or at least for carburetion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am
coelacanth∅))):

...and it seems to me airbags would be controlled by computers

...but really i'm guessing. i've never looked into this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am
Scott67:

The Defender is as if a tractor had sex with a shed. Stayed basic until the TD5 model "smartened" it up. But yes it may have chip or two controlling the engine. But you wouldn't bloody know it. 😉
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am
Scott67:

No air bags in a Defender.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am
coelacanth∅))):

haha
...and yeah i guess each manufacturer had it's own timeframe, and for each model, and for each market... like if one model only sells in a country with lax emissions laws they might not bother changing the method of carburetion and ignition over
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am
Scott67:

Coel, yep And that's why the Defender as it was known & loved is no longer made. Apparently it was too hard to implement all the safety requirements. So they completely re-designed and turned it into a Range Rover type computer on wheels. I hate it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18am
coelacanth∅))):

i had an '89 volvo that was destroyed by an inept mechanic. part of that was swapping engines with an 87. he never considered that the 87 had no crank position sensor, and when it went into the '89 the 89's computer that i didn't know existed looked everywhere for it and was very very unhappy to not have found it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28am
coelacanth∅))):

he didn't have a shop or anything, just a guy i knew...who lived with his large german shepherd in a tiny old toyota - but he claimed to be a "master mechanic" and i stupidly trusted it.
he was smart, but never checked the compression on the 87 motor and never considered things like that censor.
that car was by far the best car i ever owned and if i'd just paid someone to fix the transmission it'd still be on the road today with >450,000 miles on it. it was that good.

J Boogie:

I had a 1990 Volvo 240. It was a lemon. Maybe the worst car I ever had. Not Volvo’s fault. I still love them. And good thing because I’m likely moving to Sweden as soon as it’s safe to do so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am

i've had 9 or 10 volvos and some had more problems than others, but i wouldn't call any of 'em lemons.
most i bought with over 200k; the lowest mileage one being the newest one - a '95 960 with...160k?
that had a serious, hard to track down computer problem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am
coelacanth∅))):

J Boogie @232 i confess to not always maintaining my cars well. now i have a "vintage" audi that's not going to live through the sort of neglect i'm known for. change the oil every 6000k? ridiculous! but with this car i can feel it. it has to be done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am
coelacanth∅))):

Scott that defender looks like the stereotypical australian vehicle! are there still a lot of those there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am
Scott67:

No coel, they aren't a popular 4x4 since Toyota & Nissan entered the field. You can drive around all day and not see another one. But I like it's unique quality, until I have to buy parts. 😐 & the old ones are a bit trendy in Instagram land. They were the standard working 4x4 in Britain, so are common still.
