A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Kanopy can be useless, depending on the particular subscription. I've found plenty of films I'd like to see, through our university, but none are available. Oy.

I used to play cricket, actually. That ball is no joke - harder than a baseball and only one person has a "mitt" to catch it with. Bare hands for everyone else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am

@ brian:we use Kanopy for our pandemic film club and the university profs have to find the films elsewhere half the time due to university kanopy being more lightweight in offerings

Had to switch from laptop's wee onboard speakers to something better. Last few tracks of first set were so good, the music demanded something better. @lastvisibledog Mix your own juice 50/50 water and sugar. They like it sweeter but, hey, sugar is expensive and anyway their hummingburd parents had to fly two miles just for
water feeder when they were young!
Simple syrup: two cups sugar into one cup warm water, stir and let dissolve.

There is even Wheelchair rugby at some Tournaments... It goes like this 18-35 competitive club sides. 35-45 years old bracket. 45-55 then 55 and older sides!! Canada is usually very good in that division! (Slightly modified rules for some Ruggers in the 55 and older but same game) depending on the color of your shorts is the level of Contact in the old boys leagues

@LastVisibleDog: I'm pretty jealous of Left and Gulf Coasters who get to see, like, eight kinds of hummingbirds. Here in the Northeast, we generally only see ruby-throated hummingbirds, which are stunning, glorious marvels nevertheless, but that's it. Hummingbird feeders generally work; keep them clean, use prepared nectar mixtures or sugar water, maintain consistency (if the feeder becomes a reliable food source, that means the buddies will return more reliably). If you have a yard, there are flower varieties that they absolutely love. I can attest that a decent-sized patch of monarda (also called bee balm) will bring all the ruby-throats to the yard.

A parable of milkweed: To do good for monarch butterflies, I stuck hundreds, really thousands, of milkweed seeds in my backyard garden. Whole pods-worth were entombed. Sure enough, milkweed plants popped up. The next year, milkweed plants consumed the entire garden, smothering the other flowers that I'd planted for bees'n'butterflies. Via underground roots, new milkweed plants now emerge far beyond the garden. There's a reason why it's called "milkWEED."

As with so many French singers, most of Segara's tunes bathe the listener in rich, melodic melancholy. And there's Carla Bruni, the French singer who'll be spending a year in close quarters with her recently convicted husband, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy.

butterfly great to grow large patches of milkweed. If invasive, just rip them up while young. Also, large milkweed plants can be damaged by weather, animals, etc., making a home for the monarch tough.

Just remember folks, we have lost most of the monarch butterfly. In one year we lost close to 80%. I now grow lots of milkweed in my permaculture garden.

Many if not all weeds are edible or have medicinal purposes for people and critters. Grow weeds and mushroom. Some butterfly caterpillars love dill and fennel, like the swallowtail butterfly. The plants get so large the critters do little damage.

It's all about a balanced ecosystem.

Superb radio drama style... Ulysses makes Finnegans look digestible Reading aloud helps enormously as they really are oral tradition filtered writings, Joyce was quite the musical lad https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ulysses-james-joyce/id1517040628

You can say we oscillate from Democratic to Republican Party Administrations - & this is a kind of stasis.
You cannot tell me it makes no difference Biden was elected & not Drumpf. Please.
People of Color know what it comes down to on the street - & they got our butts out of the sling @ the Polls. Make no mistake about it !!
You might say Voting for the Lesser of Two Evils makes no difference. I put it to you that Not Voting for it does make a demonstrable & irrefutable difference! : Voter Turnout in the USA is usually abysmal.

I'm not Irish but I enjoy Joyce, even though he's a lot of work to read. I'm Czech/German/Jewish so more naturally aligned with Kafka. When I visited Prague I fit right in ... but i really do want to go to Dublin one of these days!

For those of you that cracked HBO, "Welcome to Chechnya", is a story of of the the torture and attempt at escape of LBGTQ+ community. It makes the rest of Russia look like a rainbow paradise (it isn't). Canada took in 44 refugees in the last 4 years, the US, took none. Rai is wonderful, bawdy, assertive, lost-love dance music. It's tragic how, decades ago, religious fanatics in Algeria murdered key rai artists for writing and performing music the intolerant deemed vile. Many of the musical stars fled to Paris, where "synth rai" was concocted, a terrific amalgam of "those French!" and "those Algerian expats!" An example, in Algeria, of artists being on the cutting edge of social openness and being targeted for death or exclusion.
