La Cumbiamba performs live in the studio
Hear this show now:
La Cumbiamba is a young band from New York's Colombian community that performs gaitero music, the traditional music of Colombia's Atlantic coast, as well as other traditional and popular styles. Gaitero music draws from indigenous Indian, African and Spanish traditions and is at the root of modern cumbia and other popular genres.
This show was a tuneup for the band’s big gig at Symphony Space on Friday January 23 opening up for the Peruvan duo Carlos Hayre and Mochi Parra, part of the Center For Traditional Music and Dance's Global Beat of the Boroughs concert series.
La Cumbiamba also have a weekly gig most Wednesdays at Alphabet Lounge, 104 Ave C in lower Manhattan.
For gig alerts and other info about La Cumbiamba write to the band at firstname.lastname@example.org
This week’s show was engineered by Gil Shuster.
Note: The band's set starts near the beginning of the show's second hour.
This Week's Playlist:(* = new)
