hahaha.. that reminds me of the Mitch Hedberg joke about not going to see Dr. Acula
Avatar 2:06pm
Herk Hilligoss:

Didn't Ed Wood Jr. try to make a film called Dr. Acula?
Avatar 2:07pm
notsoKWYET:

I have no idea... but it sounds pretty on brand
Avatar 2:08pm
notsoKWYET:

BC do you go all out on Halloween? or just into the records?
Avatar 2:10pm
Herk Hilligoss:

I love Halloween, but I don't always dress up in crazy costumes if that's what you mean. Lots of weird movies and friends telling ghost stories is my kind of Halloween. I also like trick or treaters and making the outside of my house spooky with music etc.

Love that... being in the city, I've most lived in apartments so no chance of giving out candy BUT i love dressing up and everything that comes with Halloween

What a sexy halloween-y song lol
Avatar 2:12pm

However, I can't stand horror movies unless they are super campy and have no jump scares

Yeah, I mostly like late night monster movies. "The Manster" and stuff like that.

A couple of years ago Alamo ran Spider Baby at their annual Halloween "lock In"Dismember the Alamo. Both of your favorites there I feel are maligned due to their Public Domain and low budget status. Both are in INCREDIBLE films.

Hey Hey BC, tuned in at the desk. Boo!
Avatar 2:21pm
Herk Hilligoss:

There were things I liked about the Krampus movie. Some of the actors reactions were kind of unbelieveable which kinda took me out of the verisimilitude. Like, "My son just got eaten.... oh well" kinda thing

i have some of Bruce Haack's children's album (with Miss Nelson) but I never played them for my kid. Did anyone really buy those albums for their children?
Avatar 3:07pm
Herk Hilligoss:

Ha, I'm making a remix by adding other Haack electronics here and there
Avatar 3:08pm
Herk Hilligoss:

I wouldn't let my kids listen to some of his adult work like Haackula and Electronic Lucifer 2 probably.

My grandson is finally at the age where he seems to be entertained by music and records in general. Last weekend I played him the record Too Much Noise and he really got into it. Then I played him Fat Boys and Yello and he was bouncing off the walls.

Hiya, Herk!
Avatar 3:36pm
Herk Hilligoss:

Ziv I feel the best book to start with is the "Incredibly Strange Films" book by RE/Search
Avatar 3:37pm
Herk Hilligoss:

I also like the Mondo Macabro book, or Monster Magazine by Tim Paxton
Avatar 3:38pm
zivilars:

Thanks, Herk – I'll definitely check all those one out! If available right now, direct order from me – your recommendation is all I need to know that those are good :)

I did the index art for the last issue of Monster Magazine ;)
Avatar 3:44pm

the Psychotronic guide is handy cuz it mentions which films have musical numbers. I've been using it as a guide to record audio off the youtubes, when possible.
Avatar 3:45pm
zivilars:

@Herb: Monster Magazine really looks great, have to check out if there's an affordable subscription to Germany somehow ... @Mr. Fab: Big Psychotronic fan here, too!
Avatar 3:47pm
Mr Fab:

That's cool, Herk. I can't really find a Monster! mag website. Where can we go to get 'em?
Avatar 3:48pm
Mr Fab:

"Electric Lucifer 2" a CD I bought the last time i visited the Rhino Records store before they closed. :(
Avatar 3:49pm
Herk Hilligoss:

The Psychotronic Book was the only book to include a review of "Frankenstein's Planet of Monsters", a 8mm sci-fi monster film by my episode artist Michael Brunelle. Lost Media Archive later remastered this film from the original U-matic source and re-issued the VHS. The Bleeding Skull book vol. 2 coming out later this summer will be talking about this film as well :)
Avatar 3:49pm
zivilars:

another nice little book is "The Book Of Lists Horror" - sounds quite generic, not the REAL deep cuts, of course, but I like it
Avatar 3:51pm
zivilars:

not comparable to Psychotronic & Co. of course, though
Avatar 3:52pm
Herk Hilligoss:

Mr. Fab I think Monster Magazine is mostly sold exclusively on Amazon. I think Tim is about to retire. Only one more issue coming soon!
Avatar 3:52pm
Herk Hilligoss:

ooh, that sounds great Ziv!
Avatar 3:52pm

weirdly enough, Def Jam released a Bruce Haack record, i think this one?
