Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am YETI BOB:

So true, Doug. Yet sometimes I forget that and do it anyhow. Maybe if people are repeatedly exposed to reason and truth, it will wear them down, like the way drops of water eventually form a canyon through erosion. Maybe it's hopeless, or maybe I can be one of those water drops.

@YETI BOB: I have a lot of respect for people who can conceptualize something live and actually get it done. People like Parker and Bill Frisell, employing loopers and freeze pedals and they weave together stuff in real time. Pretty amazing stuff. I try that but completely suck at it, though I admit I don't spend enough time with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am yerfriendpaul:

Years ago, I got a chance to meet Tony Bennet. I asked him, "what was the first record that you couldn't get enough of?". He paused and thought about it and responded, "I think it was Mel Torme and the Meltones". As soon as I could, I ran across the street and bought one of his early records.

@steveo - I can't believe I worked at 1515 Broadway for 17 years and didn't know about this installation. I did know about the "reach" piece in the subway but not the other one. I'm watching a video of it now. I'll definitely listen for it the next time I go. I bet I've heard it but it never registered to me that it could be a sound installation.

Tim's right and it's time we all took a stand on behalf of this album. I'm going to become a Trans advocate.
  11:27am Jon:

Honestly, I’m one of those people who don’t really “get” Neil Young. I LOVE On The Beach, but I can’t get into his other stuff for whatever reason. But, now I will have to listen to Trans. Sounds good to me maybe because he’s singing through a vocoder, lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am David (in London):

Joe, I demand some space lasers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Alvy Singer:

Sonic Youth does a pretty nice cover of Computer Age.
  11:28am Rick A:

Sadly, this is the first song I have heard off of Trans. I like this song, so, yes, maybe Trans is not as bad as it's cracked down to be. At least, this could have been a great album to annoy your parents in 1982.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am bigkafka:

Osé is helping recover from the (very silly) trauma of Computer Age.
  11:28am dano59:

Trans!! The track NOT on it (but listed on back cover) is great too.
@Handy: thx for survey link
@paul: thx for Sweet info.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am n8th3gr8:

i had an idea for a novelty twitter account that would troll TERFs by responding to them in defense of Neil Young's album Trans. at the end of the day i decided im too lazy and the appeal is limited, but free idea if anybody wants it

Good God. We’re gonna rock down to electric avenue.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am The Oscar:

Trans being good was one of the secrets that was revealed to me when I started working at a used record store. (Yoko being good was another big one).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am tim from champaign (now washington):

@Editor B - I'll be your ally!

@Jon - If On the Beach is the only Neil Young you like, then you have done well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Handy Haversack:

I keep thinking Osé is saying "thank you, Joe," and I keep agreeing!
  11:30am Timbk:

If you read the Neil Young biography "Shakey", you really understand what Neil was trying to do with the album - which was to communicate directly with his severely disabled son. You listen to the album in a whole new light.
  11:30am Rick A:

This is just the set for Kraftwerk or will Joe slyly avoid them here? I guess all these songs are by Kraftwerk in a way.
Avatar 11:30am Joe B:

more controversial neil young coming up shortly!

@Handy: Why, I think they ARE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am David (in London):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am courtneynoir:

oh gawd - not doo-wop Neil Young?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Mark Hurst:

Robot dance party!
  11:31am dano59:

I'm with Tim on Trans. I sold my copy once, and bought it again! @Brandon: haha dog torture!

Or even Wonderin'

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Something from Arc?
Avatar 11:32am Roberto:

Trans got a helluvalotta airplay on the station I was listening to in '82. I didn't know what to make of it but I think I liked it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Mark Hurst - RDP indeed! I remember when Liz Berg held this time slot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Blues Mandinga:

Ea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am David (in London):

Hubig. Me too x 37. He looks positively deranged in that video.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@Jon Sometimes thing just don't resonate. I mean, I don't "get" David Bowie and I've tried many, many times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am tim from champaign (now washington):

@Timbk - I stand behind This Note's For You.

Avatar 11:34am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

How about some Neil ~ Devo jams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Handy Haversack:

I love Mondays on FMU!

Though I also love the other days.
Avatar 11:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'ma tell my EddieHarris story agin :
Saw him in Santa Barbara - with a local pickup Jazz band played every week @ this hotel. Eddie told the pickups to sit out - & shamed this rhythm section - just by clacking the keys of his saxophone. This I will not forget. He passed away not long after.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am David (in London):

There's a worrying lack of space, computers, silver lame and lasers going on here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Brian in UK:

Eliot Mazer produced Area Code 615 I believe; the code for Nashville.
Avatar 11:37am HyperDose:

Still recovering from that Neil song. Takes a confident DJ to know he can purposely tank and rebound the show at will like that. Very Carlin-esque Joe!
  11:37am Rick A:

I like Wonderin' too. I had a bootleg cassette of Neil live at Carnegie Hall in the late sixties or early seventies. He performed Wanderin' which confused me initially. I guess it's an old song that he repurposed for the Shocking Pinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am PaulRobeson1920:

Heavy wintery mix coming down over the city now. Union Sq. Park 91.9 coming in clear!

Eddie Harris & His Electric Saxophone are groovy, man.

@RR63: Great story. @everyone: Is it supposed to be snowing in JC now? I didn't know about this and I don't like it.
Avatar 11:38am HyperDose:

Yeah I looked out the window and saw flurries. Mother nature is cross with us, papa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am YETI BOB:

I wonder who invented the "laser" sound. As far as I know, real lasers don't make any sound. I've been around a few - although none powerful enough to zap an enemy ship.
  11:38am annette:

eddie harris : listen up !
Avatar 11:39am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Story (you probly know) that the record label hounded Neil to 'do some Rock'n'Roll' again. They meant Rawk or something. He did roots Rock'n'Roll - exactly what they asked for - & they bugged out...
  11:39am Rick A:

It's snowing fairly hard in Brooklyn.
Avatar 11:39am βrian:

Our snow is past here on the isthmus. It's supposed to hit a glorious 36 °F today!
Avatar 11:41am McGroovey:

It's snowing in North Bergen. I don't know if it was supposed to be, but in the past, all my complaints have been for naught. Weather does whatever TF it wants to do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Mike East:

Snowing hard in the meadowlands! Hoping it doesn't stick.

  11:42am Rick A:

Revolution Rabbit, are you referring to Neil's conflict with David Geffen that led to Old Ways? It's a good album, great version of The Wayward Wind on it. Geffen was still not satisfied.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am zopa:

I am.

Avatar 11:43am PKNY:

Loving this dusted organ take on "Careless Whisper", instant clicky star!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am tim from champaign (now washington):

This Organ Trio cover of Careless Whisper sounds mycj better than Miles Davis' cover of Time After Time which sounds like Miles recorded it after he died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am YETI BOB:

Let's dance, Zopa! I didn't really mean it.
  11:43am Andres:

Singing along in my head with George Michael’s voice. A beautiful song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am David (in London):

Rev Rabbit - Classic Neil. I think Richard Thompson did very much the same when they asked him to do the '1,000 Years of Popular Music' album. They were expecting him to pretty much do classics from the 1950s onward, but he decided to take it all the way back to Purcell. Would love to have been a fly on the wall at the meeting at which those masters changed hands...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Handy Haversack:

Sweet fancy moses, it's snowing in Brooklyn *again*.
  11:44am Brendan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am David (in London):

I recently stumbled across a lovely old clip of high 80s bouffant George Michael talking about how much he loved the second Joy Division album. Top man.
