The only kind of whataboutism I like, @Rock Ridge Chess Club!
  9:03am Doug Schulkind:

Hello, how d:o you d:o!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am WR:

yesterday Dave Sewelson said, "what are you going to expect from a host that always starts his show with Roscoe Mitchell, humph, indeed."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am WR:

wait, the "humph, indeed" is from me not Dave. darn punctuation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Jeff Golick:

@WR, ha, I missed that on Dave's show. I see your humph, and raise you a hellooo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Mx. Granny (e/em):

hopping into the d:O stream, sounds tingly! hi, Jeff and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am fred:

Hello Jeff and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am alanr:

What is a Sunday morning, without your program as the background (or foreground!)...and easier now, with the pandemic, and no more 9am group yoga class)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Jeff Golick:

Wonderful wonderful, @Mx. Granny! Up early today, or is this your usual?

Ca va, @fred?
Avatar 9:08am TDK60:

Good day, Jeff, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Mx. Granny (e/em):

well, yeah, a bit early, but worth it to tune in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Jeff Golick:

@alanr! I often get the impression that a group yoga class is going on virtually on some of these Sunday mornings.

And to you, @TDK60! <<tips cap>>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am fred:

@alanr: Thanks for making your documentary available for free. I loved how you found space for the music and also made the musicians relatable
Avatar 9:13am DJpeterDE:

AlanR yes thank you! Very impressed with
Your editing, and also with multiple cameras for concert footage! Must have been costly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Uncle Michael:

@Uncle! Michael! Hello!

@Listener Gregory: I did sense your sage presence, yes. Or it was all this sage I've been burning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Jeff Golick:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63! Glad you could make it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am fred:

@Stork: I'm so looking forward to your show. I'll have to bail out after 4 hours though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Jeff Golick:

Ha, @fred. One thing about NYC, the ambient pot smoke is unavoidable. My kids learned the smell before they even knew what it was.
  9:32am Doug Schulkind:

The pandemic put the kibosh on my D:O-interrupting Sunday yoga class, too! Silver linings!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @doctorjazz, how goes?
Avatar 9:40am Listener Gregory:

I have a couple of hemp shirts. If I burn them, I wonder what it will smell like...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Jeff Golick:

FYI, on this George Lewis, it's Claire Chase on flute, performing Lewis's "works for solo instrument and electronics that use interactive digital delays, spatialization and timbre transformation to transform the acoustic sounds of the instrument into multiple digitally created sonic personalities that follow diverse yet intersecting spatial trajectories."
Avatar 9:47am DJpeterDE:

Downstairs... on funky Sesame Street

Avatar 9:56am DJpeterDE:

LG ditto
Avatar 10:00am DJpeterDE:

This one isn’t pretty good, high batting average:
Avatar 10:02am hyde:

Lidia Bastianich's son claims to have invented the everything bagel, but i'm skeptical
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Artie:

Good morning, Outies!
@LG: Couldn’t agree more.
Avatar 10:04am DJpeterDE:

There’s a bakery in Philadelphia that does croissants with chèvre filling, dusted with everything seasoning
Avatar 10:05am hyde:

@DjPeterDE would eat
Avatar 10:06am TDK60:

As long as I can get a pumpernickel (non-everything) bagel with cream cheese and it's approx. $3 at the local deli, society is still somewhat intact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am doctorjazz:

We have a shakable, everything bagel condiment-anything can be Everything Bagel flavor.
  10:07am Stork:

Sitting in the 72 degree sunshine with other humans, drinking wine ( hey Spodiodi!). Nobody pinch me. Better i should dream.
Avatar 10:07am Listener Gregory:

The everything bagel is a confusion of tastes (and overly salty for me). I prefer to get a sesame or poppyseed or the occasional (I apologize) cinnamon raisin bagel and enjoy the purity of each topping. So shoot me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am doctorjazz:

Group yoga is gone, but there's a ton of YouTube yoga, been doing 20-30 minutes daily for the back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am alanr:

@fred & @DJpeterDE: thank you so much for your supportive comments. Sorry we have to watch almost all of the people in the film leave us (Reggie Workman's still around!!). for the concert, I asked a number of friends to help out and somehow, we pulled it off, with the bigger cost being the recording of that concert (remember 12 track Hi-8 audio anyone??). Most of my work is a labor of love. Thanks again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am doctorjazz:

Inn with you, LG, my daughter loved the Everything topping, me, give me Onion, or give me death!
Avatar 10:11am Listener Gregory:

Onion! I don't think I have that option locally. Will look for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Doug Schulkind:

Spoken like the brave patriot that you are, doctorjazz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am doctorjazz:

No onion bagels????? Pains my heart to hear this! (In a pinch, a garlic bagel will sub, but it's onion all the way)
Avatar 10:13am DJpeterDE:

This is an Ayler tune isn’t it?
Avatar 10:13am hyde:

i ate a Utopia bagel this AM, but it was plain. that place makes a mean NYC bagel though. putting in an order today for 13 more
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am doctorjazz:

Alanr, is the video still posted?
Avatar 10:15am Listener Gregory:

"Jazz Inn Lovely" is the name of a club??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Jeff Golick:

@DJpeterDE -- dunno! What are you hearing?
Avatar 10:16am chresti:

Morning Jeff and d'OUTers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am doctorjazz:

Spirit of 1776! (Been binging on Outlander, think it's getting to me)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Jeff Golick:

Apparently so, @LG, but guessing there is something lost in translation: "Recorded live by SONY TC-DM at jazz inn Lovely, Nagoya, Japan, October 9th, 1990"
Avatar 10:17am DJpeterDE:

Data voice: “Accessing...”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Jeff Golick:

Good morning, @chresti!
Avatar 10:18am hyde:

Jazz Inn Lovely in Nagoya is still a jazz club! www.jazzinnlovely.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am alanr:

Bagel intervention: first choice (I live in Brooklyn) is the Bagel Hole in Park Slope. But I learned to make my own, so, that's the competition! Both are more traditional, denser & smaller, as they should be.
Avatar 10:20am Listener Gregory:

Wow, not only is it a club, they have actual gigs scheduled! Wow!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Andrew Waterloo:

I prefer the blue berry bagel. But, the everything bagel has been popular here.
Avatar 10:22am DJpeterDE:

I thought I heard Ayler's "Spirits" as the jumping off point for "Duo II"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

The Bagel Hole is great (and indeed a hole), @alanr. I favor Terrace Bagels these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Jeff Golick:

@Andrew Waterloo! I'm happy to see you but I'm afraid I am going to have to ask you to leave. And take your blueberry bagel with you.
Avatar 10:26am chresti:

Poppy seed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Jeff Golick:

@DJpeterDE: I trust your ears.
Avatar 10:26am Listener Gregory:

I wasn't going to say anything, but Jeff, you are absolutely right. Blueberries belong in pancakes or on my cereal. I had some today.
Avatar 10:26am TDK60:

My sister once made me a tuna sandwich on a bagel that had raisins in it. She's a very nice person, though.
Avatar 10:26am hyde:

i once saw a blueberry bagel in Japan. there it was called a "beru beru bageroo"
Avatar 10:29am DJpeterDE:

Hyde that is beautiful poetry
Avatar 10:30am hyde:

@DJPeterDE i also know some dirty limericks!
Avatar 10:41am hyde:

note to self: the dirty limerick bit kills all conversation
Avatar 10:42am Listener Gregory:

@hyde, there are limits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Jeff Golick:

"I once knew a commenter named hyde..."
Avatar 10:44am hyde:

@jeff hmm, most words that rhyme with hyde are not good ones
Avatar 10:46am chresti:

...who made blueberry bagels inside...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Mx. Granny (e/em):

fantastic set!
Avatar 10:47am chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Mx. Granny (e/em):

chrestikins! are you all as cold down there as i am up here?
Avatar 10:49am chresti:

Not for long, Grannykins, the low was 43, but it's warming up towards the 80s by tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Mx. Granny (e/em):

@hyde scried?
Avatar 10:51am hyde:

@Granny well, that one beats tied, lied, and died
Avatar 10:52am Listener Gregory:

@chresti, I don't know where you are, but in southern northern New England, we are looking forward to a HIGH of 43 on Tuesday. That will be the hot point of February and January for me.
Avatar 10:53am chresti:

As soon as the sun hits our little shack down here, it warms up right quick.
Listener Gregory, I'm in San Gabriel, Ca. near Los Angeles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Jeff Golick:

Glad you enjoyed, @Mx. Granny!
Avatar 10:57am Listener Gregory:

@Granny, well enjoy! My house also warms up when the sun hits it, sometimes all the way to above freezing. Good times.
Avatar 10:57am chresti:

LG if the weather here was like it is over there, there'd be icicles forming through the cracks.
Avatar 10:58am DJpeterDE:

I've just relistened to all of "Duo II" and I have no idea why I heard Ayler's "Spirits"
Avatar 10:58am chresti:

The only heat we use is the one in the bathroom.
Avatar 11:04am βrian:

This is really nice.

(And, no, not just because it isn't reggae.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am fred:

@chresti: Franco designed a T-shirt for the coming marathon? I'm so getting it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Jeff Golick:

It's not reggae? Hi, @βrian!
Avatar 11:10am chresti:

@fred: yes!
Avatar 11:15am Listener Gregory:

Loud work on cables outside my house, making me worry that I am going to lose the signal at any moment. Ack!
Avatar 11:15am Listener Gregory:

Actually, the cable work sounds much like the beginning of this cut...
Avatar 11:15am chresti:

On a Sunday??
Avatar 11:16am TDK60:

Never heard that Mekons "Retreat from Memphis." Double album you said?
Avatar 11:16am Listener Gregory:

@chresti, I know. They're upgrading the entire town, it seems. It's easier than bringing cable to all the rural neighborhoods that still don't have any.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Jeff Golick:

@TDK60: yeah it's a sprawling thing. Great stuff, especially on the first half.
Avatar 11:19am TDK60:

Listener Gregory, what is southern northern New England? (Keene, New Hampshire?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am fred:

Avatar 11:24am Wolfgang von Schtupp:

Outer Sapiens: you are encouraged to shift yourselves on over to The Stork Club at the top of the hour - we are honoring Nina Simone. It's not a must, but she will be looking down and noting your presence or lack thereof. I'm just sayin.' This way be royalty:
Avatar 11:24am Listener Gregory:

@TDK60, excellent guess! Brattleboro, VT.
Avatar 11:27am TDK60:

Thanks, Listener G. || DJ von Schtupp: looks like my other engagements are decreed cancelled today..
Avatar 11:28am chresti:

Haha fred.
Hi TDK60.
Avatar 11:30am Listener Gregory:

@Fred, CT is definitely southern New England. Massachusetts is kind of the in-betweener. It's above CT and RI but below the true northern states.
Avatar 11:31am TDK60:

Great S.Y. cut.
Avatar 11:32am StringOFperils:

Heh...nice to hear this one. Late hello.
Avatar 11:32am βrian:

What? MA is deep south!
Avatar 11:32am TDK60:

Hola Chresti.
Avatar 11:33am DJpeterDE:

@hyde sorry, i got distracted or i would have requested a limerick.
Also: I once argued that the limerick was best suited to the English language, moreso than iambic pentameter. And then I composed a whole series of epic limericks to see if I could pull off a limerick without a punchline.
Avatar 11:34am Listener Gregory:

@βrian, shhhh! (They think they're in the north.)
Avatar 11:35am chresti:

I think Boston is the farthest north on the east coast I've been in the US.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Jeff Golick:

YO, @StringOFperils!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Uncle Michael:

You're getting me through my morning, Jeff.

Nina will be pleased, TDK60.
Avatar 11:43am Wolfgang von Schtupp:

Luvved that Dug Dug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Jeff Golick:

I'm glad to hear it, @UM. It's all we can hope to do. Sort of losing control of things here, tho. Not sure how to bring this one in.
  11:46am WM:

I should have mentioned earlier in the show that I was fortunate enough to have heard Julius Hemphill live a few times. In particular, I heard him at the Public Theater with Jerome Cooper on solo drums as the opening act. I must check out this new box set. Thanks for playing his music.
Avatar 11:47am Listener Gregory:

This Gerry Weil is a real find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for checking, in @WM! That sounds like a wonderful show you caught at the Public.
  11:52am WM:

Actually I remember Jerome Cooper's set a bit more clearly than JH. Cooper played one piece that kept a quick shuffling beat on drums while he also played some kind of African wind instrument. The rhythm still sticks in my mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am doctorjazz:

Thanks, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Jeff Golick:

My pleasure, @doc. Take care.
