The experimental sounds Bradford Reed & his modular synth when we make the soundscapes of our spontaneous music would be a perfect addition. Please check it out. As I’ve already mentioned on the Comments Board for Destination Out 2/14/21, I was amazingly lucky back in college to have heard at the NYU Loeb Student Center a duet between Milford Graves and Andrew Cyrille (with an African percussion and dance troupe as the opening act). Latter on I heard MG at with Charles Gayle and again with John Zorn. The sounds from all these performances are still ringing in my ears. Forgive me for boasting a bit about my good luck. Very sad to have lost such an amazing musician and remarkable man Thanks to those at WFMU who have taken time to pay homage to MG.

  5:04pm Linda Lee:

hi WR! did you? had no clue! thank you! :-)
Miss G, this is the first time i've seen someone on the board who left the city for the same reason i did.
  5:07pm Miss G:

Linda Lee, well, these days we can admit all, I guess! Oddly, the first place I landed, was so decadent, so disgusting frat boy horrors, that I had to tell my parents that I was in far more danger there than walking home from Max's at night.
  5:08pm vs:

anyone ever see the ayler documentary "my name is albert ayler"? i watched on youtube years ago, before it got pulled. amazing. anyone know how to get a hold of a dvd copy?
Avatar 5:08pm Scott67:

G'day coel! Just back from the shower.
  5:09pm Linda Lee:

you mean, the first place you landed after leaving town? horrible!
as i recall, walking in the city after hours wasn't really worrisome if you were reasonably awake.
Avatar 5:10pm slugluv1313:

@Miss G. -- i was at that show at Loeb! Nervus Rex, Zantees, and Fleshtones too?

i never lived in NYC but i know a number of people who kinda had to leave for similar reasons, i am glad you are still here xoxoxox
  5:11pm Linda Lee:

my god. Loeb. wow. there's a place i'd forgotten totally. great place!
  5:12pm Miss G:

Linda Lee, yes, I then went to a famous Southern university. I learned more about the "world" than I wanted to. In NYC, I only once had a tentative problem after walking home from Dave's Luncheonette, and so we banged on the doors of The Odeon yelling "he has it out! It! Out!" They let us in with a sneer to make a phone call. This music is matching my memories. *L*
  5:13pm WM:

@ Miss G. Amazing! I too heard Nervus Rex and The Zantees at NYU Loeb Student Center. It was some kind of battle of the bands with another group I don’t remember. (Maybe The Fleshtones?) I guess you were in the audience too, or maybe one of the people dancing in front of the stage.
Avatar 5:13pm slugluv1313:

@WM -- thank you for those beautiful memories!!!

and no, i do not see it as "bragging" at all, i am grateful that you were so blessed to experience these performances, grateful for your sharing! :)

I should be serious during this Albert Ayler but it's so funny to have "old home week" with slugluv1313 and WM at the Loeb show, yes, The Fleshtones! I don't exactly remember, but I was usually the one to dance in the front. ..

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Is this Linda Sharrock from Black Woman?

These past 2 sets have been fantastic, Fabio!
  5:17pm wenzo llc.:

this is AMAZING!!!
  5:17pm WM:

As far as I'm concerned Sonny Sharrock's Black Woman is the most psychedelic album ever recorded.
Avatar 5:19pm slugluv1313:

@Miss G, @WM-- yes i think it was The Fleshtones?
i was at that show too, and now that you mention it, it WAS a battle of the bands -- i think Nervus Rex won???
  5:19pm Linda Lee:

seems it was warmer up in the catskills last weekend than it as here, Ken! wow. i thought to myself: i left those cold mountains for this ..?
  5:20pm Linda Lee:

have to laugh. life is a wondrous thing.
  5:21pm Miss G:

slugluv1313 I think you're right, Nervus Rex won the battle of the bands. If I had an account I'd take a photo of my Nervus Rex 45". . .This Milford Graves with David Murray matches my icestorm outside.
  5:22pm wfmu listener phillip:

OMG the time is flying by so fast😟😟😟 5:21pm 39 minutes left in @fabios show
Avatar 5:22pm slugluv1313:

omg Dave's Lunchonette . . . open 24 hours, right? great for hanging out, after being out all night & waiting for first morning train back to NJ
(was so *jealous* of friends from Long Island -- trains ran later -- and ESPECIALLY friends who were lucky enough to live in NYC)
  5:23pm Linda Lee:

where's your icestorm, Miss G?
Avatar 5:24pm coelacanth∅:

tuesday was warmer up here, above freezing
but it's dropped again and snowing
i Love it except the powder on top of ridged ice is a challenge
Avatar 5:24pm chresti:

Linda Lee! How are you in TEX?
  5:24pm WM:

That Nervus Rex/Zantees concert at Loeb was an historic event for WFMU listeners. Amazing that we are all united again on the Comments Board for Fabio’s show. Thanks Fabio!
  5:25pm Linda Lee:

yes! 24/7 ~ that warm light beckoning all hours, all weathers, when there wasn't much else around.
Dave was like the grandfather you didn't know you wanted.
  5:26pm Linda Lee:

hi chresti! just fine! 30 degrees & the sun's out on the prairie. that's some *sun* too. the light here is magnificent.
Avatar 5:27pm chresti:

Ah, glad to hear, LL.
  5:27pm Linda Lee:

good seeing you, chresti! thanks! :-)
Avatar 5:28pm slugluv1313:

@Miss G, @WM -- ahh we were all probably dancing up front at that show! (maybe EFD too? iirc, he was at NYU at the time!)
thank you Fabio, thank you WFMU!!!
  5:28pm Miss G:

WM don't want to start crying but thinking of past wFMU record fairs and sending out warm regards to Norton Records. LL yes! Dave's Luncheonette as the grandfather who was always there. Here, I am in central VA. If it gets below freezing my HVAC doesn't work well (I'm cold but I'm not complaining because of Texas.)
  5:29pm Bob from Poughkeepsie:

Great show.
no right stereo channel.
Avatar 5:29pm chresti:

It's 69 and sunny in SoCal.
Avatar 5:30pm coelacanth∅:

i've got both channels. clearly divided, percussion <>horn
  5:31pm Linda Lee:

ah. gosh, so sorry you're cold, Miss G. i'm pretty sure cold is my least favorite feeling, after 35 mountain winters. it's hard.
Avatar 5:31pm slugluv1313:

@Linda Lee -- i am guessing we MUST of crossed paths at Dave's! the WFMU family pre-union?!? :)
  5:33pm Linda Lee:

thankfully, February, not October.
yes slugluv! must've seen you there for sure. we were there at least once daily. cigs & so on. lovely.
  5:33pm WM:

@Miss G: I’ll keep on bragging… The first time I heard Sonny Sharrock live was at CBGBs. He was the opening act for a band Deadline that featured Philip Wilson on drums. (Another musician who deserves to be better remembered.) I went to the show because I had heard that Robert Quine, one of my very favorite guitarists, was going be with Deadline. (He didn’t show up for some reason) I had never heard of SS. Deadline was good but it’s SS who sticks in my mind. He gave a great performance with drums and bass. I can still distinctly remember some of the riffs he played.
  5:34pm Linda Lee:

we also spent lots of time up on the fire escape in that hot summertime, watching the activity there.
Avatar 5:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Brilliant Graves stuff, sir.
  5:36pm Linda Lee:

we *are* loving the show, Fabio! good gracious yes!
Avatar 5:36pm slugluv1313:

@Miss G -- hope all will be okay and will be able to stay warm!
have not had heat here since Saturday evening, have a couple space heaters that kinda help -- building management sez whole boiler/furnace/system has to be replaced, will take a "few days" -- but NOTHING as bad as some are experiencing in Texas and other parts of the country!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Zetti:

Hello Fabio and crew... can never get enough of Sonny Sharrock.
Avatar 5:36pm chresti:

Yes, enjoying the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm n8th3gr8:

"Once Upon a Time" by Sonny Sharrock is one of my favorite tracks ever. Think i heard it on WFMU first!
  5:37pm Linda Lee:

what's up with your heat, 'luv?
Avatar 5:37pm slugluv1313:

yes, Fabio, we are LOVING the show!!!
5:37pm Billy Martin aka illy B:

thank you Fabio!
  5:38pm Linda Lee:

hang on, you just told us! :-D
let's get that thing fixed soon, Mr Landlord!
Avatar 5:38pm coelacanth∅:

hey Zetti - yes to Sonny AND Milford
...AND David!
  5:38pm David in London:

It’s a doozy of a set tonight, but it would be great to be able to go seven days without needing to have a tribute show.
  5:38pm Miss G:

slugluv1313 I think you have a WFMU tee shirt idea! "Dave's Luncheonette: the WFMU family pre-union" ! WM, what an amazing show of Sonny Sharrock to remember!
Avatar 5:39pm coelacanth∅:

n8 that whole ask the ages album is perfect

Avatar 5:40pm slugluv1313:

@Linda Lee -- turned out there was a leak in the boiler, so boiler/furnace for the building has to be replaced -- and on Monday afternoon, the heat was on for a bit, but then there was a power outage (transformer up the street exploded) which apparently knocked the whole system off -- oh joy!
Avatar 5:42pm slugluv1313:

LOVING all the Milford Graves -- truly a phenomenal human being
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I've gotta bounce so Thanks Fabio! Thanks again for the Milford Graves.
  5:44pm Linda Lee:

wow..
'course the leak could be a year old, but yes, let's shut it down for repair in February! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Zetti:

I once attended a live show of Sharrock at the old, old Knitting Factory... West Houston. A small venue, very intimate. It was astounding.
  5:45pm Linda Lee:

i'd *love* seeing a Dave's t shirt of any type. don't think i ever have.
  5:46pm Linda Lee:

how do you 'knock off' a boiler? mysterious.
  5:47pm Miss G:

Oh, I have such a great photo of Dave's I stole from somewhere, in my folder "Miss G's 78/80s scrapbook" -a tee shirt would be great!
  5:47pm Francis (from France):

Fantastic !
Avatar 5:47pm slugluv1313:

@Miss G -- oh gosh, thank you!
hhmmm, the "Dave's Corner Luncheonette" sign, with WFMU *somehow* incorporated? :)
Avatar 5:48pm slugluv1313:

@Fabio -- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for Black Woman!!!
  5:48pm Linda Lee:

it's not real hard to do. just take the photo into an imaging program, add some letters, make a 300 ppi image & send it off to a print-to-order site. done!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Stanley:

Can I just say that I think this music is excellent?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm n8th3gr8:

@coelacanth∅ true. that particular track just kills me, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Carmichael:

Someone was reading the board ... 😉
  5:51pm Linda Lee:

are there any photos of Dave? his chubby face ought to emanate right from a halo behind the counter, saying 'Hallo Dahling!'
  5:52pm WM:

Thanks for a great show, Fabio!
  5:52pm Linda Lee:

he deserves that much after all those egg creams.
Avatar 5:53pm slugluv1313:

@Linda Lee -- right? i was told by building management that the whole system failed -- and i am sure this NEVER would have happened with my previous landlord (who sold the building in 2007) -- old-school Yugoslavian dude, was here practically every day -- he probably would have seen any issues and would have been able to prevent this
  5:54pm Linda Lee:

sure. that's all it takes.
  5:54pm Feff Cacho:

This has been great! Wanted to explore Graves after seeing Full Mantis. Now I want to go deeper. Thanks!
Avatar 5:54pm slugluv1313:

@Zetti -- *jealous*! went to many shows at that old Knitting Factory, but never got to see Sharrock!
  5:54pm Linda Lee:

i'm really sorry 'luv. cold is crappy.
Avatar 5:55pm slugluv1313:

a Dave's t-shirt would be freakin AWESOME!!!
  5:56pm Linda Lee:

i wonder if we'd have to tangle with Dave's estate.. :-D
  5:57pm Francis (from France):

Thanks for these great sets of music with the final life force Milford Graves drumming play
Avatar 5:57pm slugluv1313:

Montego Joe <3 <3 <3
(yes i still remember his shows on FMU!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Ken From Hyde Park:

  5:58pm Linda Lee:

what a beautiful set.
  5:58pm wfmu listener phillip:

GREAT SHOW!!!
  5:58pm Miss G:

Oh, it's time! gosh, thank you Fabio for an astounding afternoon, thank you Skeleton Crew and stay safe in the snow. slugluv1313 good luck with the boiler situation! Hope your electric bill is OK! I remember the days in the EV going in to work all dirty: "no heat no hot water" so at least I have hot water and lots of flannel shirts. Zetti wow that is wild to hear Sonny Sharrock at the old KF!
  5:58pm Smog on the Tyne:
