  6:11am Gerry from Miami:

Starting the day with the Kinks already makes today a guaranteed winner!! You go, Todd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11am Krys O.:

Todd, I never visited the Short Stop. I went to Upsala College in East Orange in 1981 and we had the Harris Diner down the street. My forays into Bloomfield were for banking, buying books and records. Oh, my friends and I would go to the Firehouse Pub and the Feedbag in Bloomfield.

A Man Called Flintstone was a gem. I just hadn't thought about it in ages. I really loved when the Beau Brummelstones were on the TV series.
Avatar 6:12am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Krys O: The Harris Diner garnered many mentions from The Hound.

"Babe" was my nickname on my office softball team, only because I would point my bat to the outfield. I could not hit for cocka-doo-doo, except for the occasional lucky swing.

Avatar 6:52am EdziuS:

Glad to be glistening in Neptune. Good morning Todd and Crew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53am Krys O.:

@Todd: I'm recalling that the show at Tierney's was mid-90s sometime in the winter. The band was late because of a snowstorm. It was so cool to have that in my old neighborhood. I lived down the street from Tierney's at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54am Blacktooth:

I want to hang out with Betty Davis ANY time. 10pm. 7am. Whatever. Any time.
Avatar 6:55am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Krys O: Ironically, one of the main reasons I moved to Hoboken was so I could walk to shows at Maxwell's (before I started working there).
Avatar Wake Supporter Marathon 2021 Wake Golden Glistener Marathon 2021 Swag For Life Member 6:55am medson:

@Krys O Tierney’s in Montclair? My friend who does standup had a weird experience there. They gave him a list of words and topics not to mention. This is going back a pretty long time.
Avatar 6:59am Woo:

Joe South was very fond of the na-na.
  7:00am Mark R:

I like Joe's version of this song.
  7:00am Gerry from Miami:

Deep Purple (early edition) made a big impression with this Joe South classic.
Avatar 7:01am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Gerry from Miami: Interesting that they started out doing Joe South and Neil Diamond songs...kinda thing you would expect from The Move!
Avatar 7:03am StringOFperils:

Seconds of Pleasure. Decades of reward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am Krys O.:

@medson: I wouldn't doubt it. I really didn't hang out there. The Robert Gordon show came out of the blue and a group of folks who worked at Crazy Rhythms with my ex came along. Many years later I saw The Feelies play at a benefit for Hoboken after Sandy.
Avatar 7:05am MFlynn:

I always liked this Rockpile album. My favorite tune was the Everlys inspired "Now and Always"
  7:05am Gerry from Miami:

Loved the bonus EP of Everly Brothers covers that came with this classic album. Nick is a god!

Avatar 7:11am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Glad you are digging the tunes Mike! Always good to have you tuned in Tom!
  7:13am Gerry from Miami:

Todd, mentioning the Move gets me thinking how American radio pretty much ignored Roy Wood and his band. I think I played the "Shazam" album 5 or 6 times the day I bought it. And "Message From the Country" is another overlooked classic LP.
Avatar 7:13am HyperDose:

Avatar 7:20am Rich in Bristol:

That Charlie Megira track was wondrous! Thank you for opening my ears. I now look forward to diving into his back catalogue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20am Krys O.:

Yup, it was an unforgettable experience. I listened to that show commuting home from work and the thought of the Mael brothers in Monty Hall was mind-blowing.
  7:21am Bobbay!:

Good morning y’all!
Avatar 7:22am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Tom from Stirling: That's correct. At one point, Roy Wood was in The Move, ELO and Wizzard simultaneously!
  7:24am Gerry from Miami:

Sparks go Bee Gees-style disco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24am Krys O.:

A WFMU synchronous moment: Running into Terre T and Tom Sharpling at Roy Wood's show at the Village Underground.
  7:26am Gerry from Miami:

Terre T's theme song? Why, "Cherry Blossom Clinic" by the Move, of course!

  7:27am Andrew Benepe:

Bowie on lead guitar maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29am YETI BOB:

Andrew: Earl Slick?
  7:30am Tom from Stirling:

Bowie always had great bands with great guitarists. Earl Slick was my fav. Peter Frampton never really fit in with the Bowie mystique.

Avatar 7:34am StringOFperils:

This wry delivery reminded me of John Cooper Clarke. I will need to dig some of that out later....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34am Krys O.:

@Tom from Stirling: That's ironic because Frampton and Bowie grew up together as kids.
Avatar 7:35am dk50b:

@Gerry from Miami When you say "Roy Wood and his band" do you mean The Move? As Todd says, ELO formed from The Move in 1970, original members were Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, and Bev Bevan. That was supposed to be the end of The Move, but contractual obligations kept them alive till 1972, when Wood left ELO to form Wizzard. One of my all time greatest record finds was The Move Greatest Hits Vol. 1 for a few bucks at the Sam Goody in the White Plains Galleria www.discogs.com...

@Krys O.

My forays into Bloomfield were similar except for The Record Store and The Last Straw. Sometimes we would walk up to The Town Pub and the vintage shop across the street. The Feedbag was so good until it wasn't. Some of my WFMU pals and were at the Harris all the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46am Ryansterlingvirtue:

Doing okay, TDK60, all things considered.
  7:50am Gerry from Miami:

@dk50b That looks like a typical Pickwick budget LP with only five songs per side---all good ones, though! The history of the Move, ELO and Wizzard is a complicated one, as you outlined. Jeff Lynne seems to have profited the most in the final analysis, but my loyalties are with Roy Wood.
Avatar 7:51am dk50b:

@Krys O. Mamaroneck boy myself. Used to take the 60 bus to White Plains, which even then was pretty happening by suburban city standards. Since I know a few bus route numbers I guess I can write a song for Rancid. Was a great spot radio wise in the early '80's, on the fringe of WLIR's signal, and the New Afternoon Show on WNYU.
