Hello, all! Today's playlist art is by Russian artist Eugen Gabritschevsky. It's from 1942, and is untitled.

Hi Tony & listeners!
Avatar 12:05pm
Tony Coulter:

FYI: Today's show will be relying heavily on the dollar-bin records in my basement. Mostly stuff from the '70s.

Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Yvang!

Bring on those Pilot albums Tony!

Good morning -Rose City time, Tony.
Avatar 12:07pm
Tony Coulter:

That Fringe Benefit track has a smidgeon of Roxy Music flavoring, to my ears.
Avatar 12:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Morning, TDK60! By the way, are you normal ... or metal?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
David (in London):

Hey TDK!
Avatar 12:11pm
TDK60:

Neither Tony, more psych-meets protest-folk with a dash of postpunk.
Avatar 12:13pm
TDK60:

Hi David! || Ah, those ancient ones...

Salutations Good Sir Tony and fellow surfs

The coronavirus has given me more time to go through the boxes and boxes of cheapie LPs in my basement, many of which I had barely listened to -- hence, today's audio report.

@Stanley: Someplace warm enough for surfing does sound appealing, though. . . .

Hello Stanley, up north.

Fellow smurfs Stanley?

Well, the time was well-spent if it gives us the delights of the likes of City Limits Tony.
Avatar 12:17pm
Tony Coulter:

Btw, John Berenzy was City Limit's lead guitarist.
Avatar 12:26pm
Tony Coulter:

All records in this set, except for the True West, were bought for 50 cents each since I moved to Portland 10 years ago. It helps that Portland has more record stores per capita than any other U.S. city ... not that I'm shopping at them these days.
Avatar 12:32pm
TDK60:

Yes, it was an embarrassment of record shops when I was there, Tony. I hope Mississippi Record shop still goes on, somehow. Good used LP joint.
Avatar 12:33pm
TDK60:

There was also Vinyl Resting Place out in St. Johns. (Used.)
Avatar 12:34pm
Tony Coulter:

Mississippi Records is still there, I believe. So far, I know of only one store that has had to close -- one of the best, though, unfortunately: Musique Plastique.

Rather liking this Steve Hackett. That was a buck well spent Tony.
Avatar 12:41pm
TDK60:

Yes, this sounds good, this Hackett. Genesis-like.
Avatar 12:46pm
Tony Coulter:

I certainly vastly prefer it to Genesis from that era (like "Duke").

"Dollar Bin Records In My Basement."
Perfect song or painting or one-man stage play.

Darn, arriving late today, missed Hackett, Crack the Sky...

Oh, no! No more Musique Plastique?!

Hey, Dean! Yes, sadly, Musique Plastique had to close.
  12:52pm
Dean:

Last time I was in town, around Christmas '19, I spent a lot of time there. Picked up a bunch of LPs.
Avatar 12:53pm
Tony Coulter:

There are plans to eventually reopen, so ... fingers crossed.
Avatar 12:53pm
still b/p:

Just made it here for last couple tracks, and already asking more than once, ""Familiar -- do I know this?" Answer is, no, I don't. But do I know the language? Yes, yes I do.

Missed their song here, but Crack the Sky played my high school. There was even a T-shirt.

David (in London):

Wally, not a name that would have gone down very well in the UK in the '70s. But a very nice track.
  12:55pm
Dean:

Shoot, I used to have this Wally album. Completely forgot about them. Coincidentally, following last week's Tape Hiss, for which the mystery LP below the tapes was The Enid, I encountered some discussion of Robert John Godfrey and his links to Barclay James Harvest.

This is a brilliant slab of Francophone cheese.

headcleaner:

fine stuff on your playlist today, Tony. Unfortunately I can't pick it up right now as either the stream (or my player?) seems to be perpetually stuck on the Starbuck song (no matter how many times I restart it). So I'll have to catch up with the fine Francophone frommage sometime in the future, je suppose
Avatar 1:42pm
Tony Coulter:

Hi, headcleaner. Thats weird! Can't imagine what would cause that problem. But the archive should be up and waiting a couple of hours after the show.
