G'day coel! 😎🖖
Avatar 10:24pm Kris Holmes:

Kia ora Pete! We're still on F
Avatar 10:25pm still b/p:

I'm gonna confess here right now that the Buckinghams lyrics-added version of Mercy Mercy Mercy and the original instrumental walked separately around the streets of my familiarity but never ran into one another to be recognized together as family until now, as I was looking at song and Zawinul info, with me saying, "Ohhhhh! Yeah." And then I said, "Sheesh," and then I said, "Brains, huh? Go figure 'em."
  10:26pm Peter Mac:

Excellent, bring it on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm WR:

thanks tor the link Matt. interesting read.
Avatar 10:27pm Kris Holmes:

Buckinghams version isn't terrible, I might still have the 45 filed in the rock boxes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Candy-O'67:

Diggin' these Ace Bright gospel tunes. I'm gonna have to look into getting some of his stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm WR:

thank you for flipping over the Ace Bright & The Silver Stars record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm Matt from New Orleans:

No worries WR
Avatar 10:29pm Kris Holmes:

Candy, I have done extensive googling since I found it on Saturday & can safely say that this is probably all his stuff, two songs, one 45, incredible .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Candy-O'67:

Too bad that's all he probably did. Where did you find it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm ifny:

There's no shame in country 45s.
  10:36pm CC:

It's probably going to change!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm ifny:

Your partner needs a mic. Intelligence is so often underamplified ;)
Avatar 10:38pm Kris Holmes:

No, don't give her the mic, her stories are longer than mine.... lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm Matt from New Orleans:

She is funnier though 😜
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm ifny:

That's ok. Sometimes quality and quantity actually go together. Where do we have to be tonight? Nowheres!
Avatar 10:40pm Kris Holmes:

I'm funnier back in NZ I swear!!! America just doesn't get it!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm ifny:

@Matt hear hear!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Candy-O'67:

Hahaha, Kris!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm ifny:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm ifny:

Wow, this track is truly shades of awesome madness.

  10:49pm CC:

...:)O(:...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Matt from New Orleans:

Ernie is named Ernst Von Funkenstein on a quality Jimmy Witherspoon album Baby, Baby, Baby. I like Kenny Burrell on a bunch of the tracks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm ifny:

Comment board denizens can only carry the deejay so far.
  10:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm ifny:

We have to keep the intertubes warm, breathing on them and stomping our teensy 2D feet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Matt from New Orleans:

Larry is a fan of this one. He uses a sample from this for his non-FMU radio show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm ifny:

Salut Phillippe!
Avatar 10:55pm Kris Holmes:

Larry has great taste
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Matt from New Orleans:

I think Funky DJ was actually recorded in Muscle Shoals
Avatar 10:58pm Kris Holmes:

says both places on the label
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm ifny:

Labels will say anything these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm ifny:

Always trying to pull one over some poor innocent vinyl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm Matt from New Orleans:

Australian group?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm ifny:

Love that vibrato on Frootful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Candy-O'67:

Happy birthday, CC!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Matt from New Orleans:

Happy Birthday CC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Matt from New Orleans:

That’s a London based label but they seem to release a number of Australian bands. They just released a really good album from Menagerie a Melbourne based Spiritual Jazz Ensemble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm ifny:

Angeline Morrison lives in Cornwall so perhaps Frootful is UK based too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm ifny:

Learn to use GIMP or Inkscape. Same learning curve as Ye Olde Photoshoppe but they are free and open source. Or crayons, I'm a big fan of crayons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Matt from New Orleans:

They have U.K. based acts like Speedometer and used to put out comps by Craig Charles before Greg Boramon left and took Craig with him.
Avatar 11:14pm Kris Holmes:

I had Inkscape a long time ago & couldn't figure it out. I can't overstate how terrible I am at that stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Matt from New Orleans:

Fugi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm coelacanth∅:

i have a photoshop cd here somewhere that came with a scanner i bought. i've never installed it, never have used photoshop. just gimp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm ifny:

@Kris Yeah I hear that. You might want to give GIMP a try -- it's more dialled down, easier to pick up quickly www.gimp.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm coelacanth∅:

...though when wfmu had that Muuro art contest i decided to do it with scissors and glue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm ifny:

Though let me reiterate my love for crayons. They are especially excellent looking when melted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Matt from New Orleans:

Didn’t you play this under a different name on Hit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm ifny:

I used to have an album that was made completely from paper, except for the actual plastic of the CD. The CD had a plain white paper circle affixed to it. All the sounds on it were made using paper. It was amazing. I lost it. I don't think I will ever find it again. My kanji is pisspoor :(
Avatar 11:20pm Kris Holmes:

Yeah. I was trying to remember the other versions, this is one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm ifny:

@coel nice! Just scissors and glue? That must have been a striking sculpture!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm ifny:

It may surprise you to know that I am a huge fan of scissors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Matt from New Orleans:

😯
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm coelacanth∅:

there used to be a real dollar store here that sold actually good scissors. i have scissors everywhere. just in case
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm ifny:

I discovered I have a lovely old pair of Olfas kicking around my house. They're compact and fabulous kitchen shears, slightly serrated. Great ergonomics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm ifny:

I have scissors everywhere too but I've taken to keeping the Olfas in my knife block.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm Matt from New Orleans:

Do the blades snap off when they wear out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm WR:

good F'delic tune which reminds me, i need tp go back and listen to Grogan's G. Clinton show from last Friday. work made me miss a lot of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm ifny:

@Matt Snap off the crappy scissors in my house or the Olafs? I have some crappy house inherited scissors with snapped off tips. But the Olafs are staying nice and sharp what with their serration, and I don't try to pry cans open with them so the blade tips are fine. Also the way they've shaped the tips looks like it is more resistant to snapping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm ifny:

olfa-olfa.com if you want to see what I mean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm Matt from New Orleans:

It was a stupid joke about the Olaf’s as they created the snap off utility blade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Matt from New Orleans:

Olfa’s stupid autocorrect
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm ifny:

ohhh sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm ifny:

According to their website their name means 'break a blade' in Japanese so that makes sense!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm ifny:

I think I must have the SCS-2 olfa-olfa.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Matt from New Orleans:

Otis Funkmeyer reminded of the cookie man Otis Spunkmeyer. I don’t think I’ve had one of their cookies in years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm ifny:

I've been nerding out about handsaws this week. I've decided to buy a Silky, so excited! Beautiful design; 3D serration and blade tapers in three directions so it doesn't stick as you cut. They saw on the backstroke, smooth and less tiring. The teeth are tempered harder than the blade itself, meaning that the teeth stay sharp longer while the softness of the blade allows it to flex so it is less brittle and more resistant to snapping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm WR:

with the foccacia she is...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm ifny:

What the focaccia is going on!
Avatar 11:48pm Kris Holmes:

ha, i don't know, a regular crazy Tuesday in the Holmes house
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm coelacanth∅:

i'd like to have a saw like that, but i don't need more stuff. it's either big enough to need the circular saw, table saw or sabre saw; or small enough that i can deal with using my shitty saw for a minute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm coelacanth∅:

(although it's true i'd use the handsaw for slightly larger jobs if i had a good one)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm ifny:

I'm buying the Silky Ultra Accel. It's foldable and small enough that I can take it bicycle camping, but still respectably resize the log wafers that are annoying to chop with my axe. (I have some aged cherry that is a notorious axe-killer.) I have some carpentry project in mind as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Matt from New Orleans:

Curved or straight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm coelacanth∅:

i'm thinking a pruning saw would be better for firewood, no?
- not as smooth but faster
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Matt from New Orleans:

Thanks Kris. One more letter down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm ifny:

Curved for my pleasure. This is the one I'm buying www.silkysaws.com... but if portability isn't important to you, you'd probably want a curved Silky Bigboy www.silkysaws.com... My arborist buddy swears by them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Candy-O'67:

Thanks for another great night, Kris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm coelacanth∅:

they look like pruning saws to me!
i want to zoom in on those teeth but it's not an option.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm ifny:

Silkys are great for pruning, that's what she uses it for. I don't need to dovetail anything, else I would have gotten a straight blade. Silkys have two lock positions, most people think the second is for sawing something near the ground but it's actually for sawing overhead or at difficult angles. The Silky Ultra Accel has been called the Goldilocks of folding handsaws and I am stoked :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm ifny:

The curved blade is nice because it pulls the wood in toward you on the backstroke, plus the curve gives you greater strength length. There are some good in-depth reviews/demos on YT, with teeth closeups.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm ifny:

Just remember that almost no one knows what the second position is for :P
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm WR:

thank you Kris for the tunes. youse other folks be careful with those pointy tools.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm coelacanth∅:

i have a nameless folding pruner, wooden handle. locks into place, no complaints.
forbigger jobs, most jobs though i use the blade off a pole pruner that somehow got left at my sister's house by save-a-tree. aluminum everything. need to use gloves to hold onto it but it's pretty amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am ifny:

Thank you! Safety third! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Kris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am ifny:

@coel There's gorgeous rubber on the handles of the Silkys. Just sayin' if you ever have to replace what you have ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am coelacanth∅:

one day, ifny... one day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am ifny:

Oh, and the handle of the Ultra Accel is aluminium, which is bonkers, but made very strong w/ no flex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am ifny:

Haha, indeed.
