A new set begins: Live performance and chat with Beyond the Pale
Comment: Toronto may not seem to be a Klezmer breeding ground but Beyond The Pale pulls it off beautifully. Melding musical influences from a Jewish mandolin virtuoso, a Dutch-Canadian clarinetist to Serbians proficient on violin and accordion, it's more Jewish-Balkan twang than Klezmer. The ensemble includes Eric Stein (mandolin), Bret Higgins (bass), Martin van de Ven (clarinet), Milos Popovic (accordion), and Alexander Gajic (violin). Beyond The Pale dropped by to record a set for Irene and WFMU on a recent swing through NYC.
