Entertainment=Control
Entertainment=Control
2:34:49
Comment: Erkki Veltheim said of this piece, "One regret that I have is that when we've performed ENTERTAINMENT=CONTROL, some in the audience still interpret it as a 'heroic' piece, a triumph of endurance, which is beside the point for me personally. I'm much more interested in how this kind of piece can nullify that performative aspect altogether, so that the endurance or physical exertion required becomes merely a footnote to the main point of the piece, which for me is the suspension of time itself."
2:45:19
Comment: Anthony Pateras said in conversation with Veltheim, "The important thing is to act alone, to create an internal conversation separate from the external one. Strength through resistance. Identity through rejection. If you can successfully remove yourself from a community and are able to exist outside of it, you are much freer to explore your honest reactions to things. The approval-seeking element is destroyed: it's just you and the materials. Its important to try for that situation at least, because as technology is now ubiquitous, network suffocates work. We exist inside a snowballing memory of everything that has been done, alongside an endless commentary of what is currently occurring. Within this, the struggle is to believe that what exists is far from fulfilling all possibilities. Imitation is a mistake. Repetition is death .Touchstones in musical thinking were always born from the stubborn denial of staid models and the accepted version of the present. Everything else is trivial."
