A new set begins: Live performance and chat with Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3. (L to R: Scott McCaughey, Irene, Robyn, Peter Buck, Bill Rieflin (gone to the hereafter, 2020)
A new set begins: After a number of acoustic outings, Robyn Hitchcock came blasting forth with his rockingest album in years, 'Olé Tarantula,' employing the fab 3 of Messrs McCaughey, Buck and Rieflin (3/5 of The Minus 5, or 1/2 of R.E.M., or 1/4 of the Young Fresh Fellows). Robyn says of this latest disc on Yep Rock, 'To me, the whole record is sadness cloaked in fun. But under that fun, more sadness.' But whatever the underlying tone may be, Robyn & the 3 laid down a spirited set for Irene & the WFMU listeners during a recent trip to the NYC area.
