A new set begins: Live performance by Invert (Helen Yee, violin; Chris Jenkins, viola; Chris George, cello; Steve Berson, cello) (Irene on the left)
A new set begins: Invert, the string quartet that flips the usual instrumentation from two violins to two cellos droped by for a live set. Invert's members also defy typical classical tradition by being firmly rooted in rock, jazz and world musics. The NYC-based quartet's influences are reflected in their compositions, which range from pieces evocative of soundtracks from Expressionist cinema to driving melodic works that often feature open sections of improvisation.

A new set begins: Live performance by Zoë Keating
A new set begins: Zoë Keating is a bi-costal member of a very different string ensemble, the ladies cello society,Rasputina. based in San Francisco, Zoë has a new solo thing, cello X 16, an extravaganza for that most darkly-expressive string instrument. Her stage show is a lovely incorporation of lush overlays of multiple cello loops and stark photographic backdrops. Zoë's new album, 'Natoma,' is available through her website and she's currently touring with Invert.
