Comment: A friend and I spent today (Sunday) wandering around the city, contemplating how royally fucked up everything is: Heightened Terror Alert, National Guard with AK-47s wandering freely through NYC subway stations, brunch ration cards not showing up in the mail when the Department of Total Information Control's website says they're going to, and the fact that I am in some sick way actually excited to see the new Vin Diesel movie. Let's face it, September 11th set a really lousy tone for the start of the 21st century, and this war certainly isn't going to help things, so it's apparent that we've all got to change our routines and habits to reflect the new times. (The 'Reign of Terror,' as my friend rather pessimistically refers to it.) Basically, it's all about cheating. Since brunch is already being rationed by the government, you can kiss the tradition of salmon pate, eggs benedict, and 40 cups of coffee with your pals every Sunday goodbye. Nowadays, it's all about the Sunday afternoon Dim Sum. See how this works? The government is trying to screw you, well you screw them right back! Lost your job and don't have money to blow on foolish materialistic pursuits like you did back in the 90s? Be creative. Write the Great American Pamphlet. Bury all the food in your refrigerator in the backyard and see what grows. Only eat things you catch. (Or find.) Write angry letters to celebrities with corny, outspoken political beliefs. Keep a toothpick tucked behind your ear. Nap excessively. Put apples in your salad. Bet you never tried that, eh? It's delicious! And this list is just for starters. From what I understand, you're apparently an imaginitive S.O.B. with an impressive vocabulary, so let's see what you're made of.
