Well, the Gorky's kids have grown up & assimilated all that now - after 10 years together, they've reached their mellow mid-20s. Never world-weary - in fact, their music now achieves a sense of serenity and warmth that'll melt your outer hipster cynic into a soggy pile of lament for your lost inner soul! ....uh, okay, well- that's how I felt, anyway.

Right! Anyway...here's the stats: GZM hails from Wales, they often sing in Welsh, they've been playing a very hermetic brand of Canterbury-derived psych-folk since they lost their baby teeth - and still no one can pronounce their name:

Here's what they did, with gratuitous coments by me:

• "Soul Into Heart" (written on the WFMU Toy Piano when they got here. Not the first time they've written a song within the fine walls of this radio station! See "She Lives on a Mountain" on 1999's Spanish Dance Troupe, or WFMU's "More Music, Less Parking").
• "This Summer's Been Good From the Start"
• "Dead Aid"
• "The Girl I've Always Known"
• "The Blue Trees"
• "My Honey"

• Euros Childs played the toy piano, acoustic guitar & sang
• Richard James played acoustic guitar & sang
• Megan Childs played violin & sang
• Rhodri Puw played acoustic guitar & drums on "Dead Aid"
• Peter Richardson (ex-Topper) played drums & toy piano on "The Blue Trees"

This marks Gorky's' 4th appearance on WFMU's airwaves, and we sure hope they'll come back again!

The new album "How I Long to Feel the Summer in My Heart" is due in the fall on Mantra.
