Transcendence from Brazilian Vinicius Cantuária.

Live Performance by Vinicius Cantuária

Gorgeous, lush, transcendent-- That's how I'd describe the music of Vinicius Cantuária. Mr. Cantuária incorporates traditional Brazilian Bossa Nova with jazz elements and experimental soundcapes to create a modern style of music. At the heart of Vinicius' music are his lovely songwriting abilities, his velvety voice and skillful guitar playing. He wrote a million-seller ("Lua e Estrella") for Caetano Veloso and had a well-respected career in Brazil before moving to New York City. Vinicius Cantuária has two albums available in the U.S. (Sol Na Cara and Tucumã), which include collaborations with Arto Lindsay, DJ Spooky, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Erik Friedlander, Bill Frisell, Laurie Anderson and Sean Lennon. Mr. Cantuária performed at the WFMU studios, accompanyed on trumpet and percussion by current bandmate Michael Leonhart.

Vinicius Cantuária's American releases are available on the Verve label.
