Baseball Talk:Record Closeup

Baseball Talk:Record Closeup

When I found the first of these records, I wondered how on earth would you play them? There is no hole to be punched out and the placement of the record on the card made it seem impractical to play it on any turntable. Just when I was about to rip apart a card and put it on my turntable, I found the player. It was made by LJN Toys to be used exclusively with the Baseball Talk collection. The card is placed record down, into a set of guides and a metal rivet which fits into a little hole in the center of the record. When the clear plastic top is closed, the record is held and a stylus mounted to a wheel, spins from BELOW and tracks the groove. It has amazingly clear fidelity as it is an electrically transmitted signal. This was a very fun novelty record player which I'm sure kids enjoyed when it came out. As collectors do today!
