Adventures in UNsound: no. 24: The New West of Amsterdam

(1) BLACK & WHITE HILLBILLY MUSIC: EARLY HARMONICA RECORDINGS FROM THE 1920s & 30S from Trikont ,
is an erudite and exquisite compilation which chroniclles deeply and engagingly, this lesser known chapter of the history of American music. Some real obscure gems.
(2) AMERICAN YODELING: 1911 - 1946 also from Trikont
contains an eerie selection of "early" American yodels including the DeZurik Sisters, Roy Rogersd and my favorite "Yodeling Mule" by Three Tobacco Tags. Great liner notes by Christoph Wagner. For info trikont@compuserve.com
(3) Paris, Texas
Ry Cooder's soundtrack to the excellent film by Wim Wenders is one of my favorite soundtracks. Like the best of Morricone or the Betty Blue soundtrack by Gabriel Yared or Miles Davis' work for Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows, just listening to the music (without the film) evokes a strong sensory reaction that often supercedes the film itself. Warner Brothers 1985.
