| [1] "Ambient Intimacy Volume 3" various artists on EE Tapes, Sint Nikilaas, Belgium debrug.ocj@steunpunt.be. Very interesting collection of atmospheres, sonic hints, sumptuous loops: Infant Cycle, Vance Orchestra, Alfa Tau Bau, Smell & Quim, Vidna Obmana | |
| [2] Announcing a protest and demonstration against the eviction of the Entrepotdok squat, the home of our radio station. As Amsterdam tries to present its most polite and public image it tends to do it at the expense of creativity and humaneness. In particular, amsterdam seems to be very proud of its legalized squats which have become landmarks of culture and have made it an interesting place: among many examples are the Melkweg, Paradiso and Balie. The Kalenderpanden at Entrepotdok could be just such a diverse and lively contemporary alternative version of these kinds of places if the city wants to. entrpol@dds.nl http://squat.net/entrepotdok . | |
| [3] "Sooner or Later" on RecRec Music of Zurich, Switzerland. Here a deeply affecting dismantling and amplification of the sampled emotions surrounding a young Salvadoran boy burying his father who's been killed by the US-trained El Salvador national guard - boy laments, buzzing fly, sound of shovel digging grave. "Sweet Papa. Bastards! Seeing my father, I feel like I have a bullet in my heart, compañeros. I'd rather die for a just cause, compañeros, than end up a thief. My father told me he was a fighter for our people " "An American Diary" on NYC Records nyc@jazzonln.com is an intriguing collection of jazz works based on his memories of youth which involve jazzers & longhairs, low & high brows. Here he takes some classics and remolds them according to his modernist improv whims. He tackles Ives, Copland, Bernstein, Zappa, Samuel Barber, Roger Sessions | |
| [5] "Knitting on the Roof" on Knitting Factory Records www.knittingfactory.com is a loving mixed bag compilation of covers of "Fiddler on the Roof" with some incredible - absurd to heartwarming to kitschy - renditions. With some of the names familiar to Knitting Factory fans: Elliot Sharp, Chadbourne, David S. Ware, Klezmer Allstars, but also the Residents, Negativland and Come | |
| [6] On Sub Rosa but also included here on the music mag Gonzo Circus' great series of compilations called "Mind the Gap" #29 http://www.planetinternet.be/~gonzo.circus | |
