Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from October 30, 2020 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Seems to me the way to handle this is to do a month-by-month comparison. So, January '71 or '72? February? Then tally and proclaim a winner. This avoids the likely scenario in which one song one year KO's all the songs from the other.

I loved Tapestry back then but have grown tired of it, probably from hearing it too much.

But I never get tired of Todd. Some people think this song is offensive to women and yeah, the narrator is kind of a jerk. But I love how it ends with the quiet "... and when we're done with you, we're gonna get me one too." Showing he's kind of a blowhard.

Michael. When I was 17 I went with a bunch of kids from school to the Troubadour on a rainy night to seethe Mark-Almond Band. Jonathan Edwards was the opening act. We got very stoned driving over. I was me and another guy and four girls. I started going to the dark place even before we got there. I was so into my own personal hell. The first thing I did when we got inside was burn my mouth with a scalding hot cup of tea. When Jonathan Edwards started singing Sunshine I was barley holding on. Lots of things happened after that, but that song always puts me in a state. I'm glad I missed it.
