So I caved and let the record store day hype get to me ... found “Stonebone” on Discogs for the retail price. I know nothing about it other than it was a CTI album released only in Japan, with Herbie on it. Anyone heard it? Is it any good???

Avatar 🦀 10:16am

There was a bar in Providence, RI that had jazz on its jukebox in the 80s, but that was unusual. It's said that Coleman Hawkins's Body and Soul could be found in jukeboxes through the 50s and into the 60s.

Speaking of singles, my pet peeve is the people who enter CDs into CDDB and randomly label certain tracks as “album version”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am
Jeff Golick:

Hi hi, @mauri!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am
Jeff Golick:

The only jukebox I remember fondly was the one at the Corner Bistro, West Village, early 1990s.
Avatar 🦀 10:18am
Listener Gregory:

Actually, a bar near me has a "digital jukebox" with a decent jazz selection (at least, some good Miles Davis). However, it is like $1 a song, which seems outrageous to me. They don't remember country songs that tell you to put a dime in the jukebox.
Avatar 🦀 10:19am
Listener Gregory:

Jeff, so this is Rahsaan on reeds?
  10:19am
DJpeterDE:

I haven’t been to a dive bar in years, but always checked the jukebox when in one for the first time, all sorts of random stuff in there including jazz singles from 60s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
Jeff Golick:

You can be sure they cut out this bass solo on the single version of "Fly."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am

Thanks Jeff. I was playing Gregory Isaacs 'Personal Secretary' the other day and when he sings Aha Aha I was reminded of Alan Partridge and thence you.
