@Jeff...ha! I here ya. I've had good luck as I go back over all the years vs standard black, but it was touch and go there for a minute. Unfortunately the uptick in vinyl sales have driven quality down once again, regardless of color. Some of my best sounding records are 30-40 years old and can be seen through if held up to a light.

@Brian. That is excellent footage. I'm thinking that was 18/fps? At first I thought it was under-cranked, but you couldn't do that, I don't think, with super-8. Also, the speed of the action is proper, just a bit choppy. Very cool. Have you been into film since?

Someone called this website's design "brutalist". I had to google that to figure out what they meant bc I didn't see the reference architecturally. What do you think about that label?
  11:36pm
modern blaze:

i like to glance. there's so much to see
  11:37pm
Andres:

I need to hear more of Townes Van Zandt's music. This is gorgeous.
  11:37pm
Dean:

People throw around labels like "brutalist" all the time without having the foggiest notion of what it means. Same goes for "postmodern." But where "brutalist" actually points to a stylistic point in time, "postmodern" means precisely nothing and everything.
  11:37pm
Carmichael:

I would say “direct” or “accessible “, from a user standpoint. Sometimes IT professionals tend to analyze others’ platforms with a jaundiced eye.
Avatar 11:38pm
northguineahills:

@Dean: your definition of postmodern is correct. And I like some literature/art/etc that is postmodern.

difficulty: what about post-pomo?
  11:41pm
phat:

Holy cow this Steve Young.
  11:41pm
Dean:

I've never understood what anybody means by "postmodern." It seems completely ad hoc to me. There is no postmodern literature or art. (Okay, there is in a narrow sense postmodern architecture, but that has little to do with literature, etc.)
  11:42pm
Carmichael:

Maybe we could rename it “pre future”?
  11:44pm
Dean:

I would name it "modernist." We are always, and always will be, modernist.
Avatar 11:44pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Richy I don't think "brutalist" means function over form, but, labels are fun
Avatar 11:47pm
northguineahills:

For that matter, post-punk?
  11:49pm
Dean:

Punk was brief, a year and a half, maybe two. Post-punk refers to the stuff that came later, wasn't punk, and marketers had a hard time stuffing into a category.
  11:49pm
phat:

I've never heard anyone say they liked Leo Kottke's singing.
Avatar 11:50pm
northguineahills:

@Dean: then we would have to play w/ post-ad hoc labels such as pre-modernist, sort of like historians label the 14th-16th centuries as early modern...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Mr. Pumpy:

@Dean, while I don't disagree, and some people do use these terms flippantly, it is important to realize all things are relative to those who experience and/or deliver them. Is there a ton of misuse, abuse, and malapropism out there (here), of course, but it is important to keep my first point in mind lest we become semanticist the likes of those who refuse to recognize nuance.
