Hey Handy - completely unrelated to this show (or anything really) - Just wanted to tell you that a buddy and I took the two-man kayak up the Chicago River yesterday, starting at Ping Tom Park in Chinatown, up through downtown, through the harbor locks, and out into Lake Michigan, where we rendevoused with some friends on a sailboat. It was quite a day.

Avatar 3:53pm
YETI BOB:

@Braniac: We were on the South Branch, the tower you speak of is on the North. The building itself is fine, IMO. They just need to take off the oversized, gaudy name plate (which I read is actually decreasing the value of the property). One of these days, I'm sure, it will be removed.

@HH: This was the day after the storm passed through. Weather was calm, not too hot. Perfect day, really. And it was my friend's birthday, so we stopped for a beer along the riverwalk ... we were the only "boat people" there. It would have been good to have a marine radio, but we didn't. I read up on the rules and restrictions for going through the locks, so I knew we were allowed, as long as we had life vests (which we did). I thought we were doing everything right, but we got yelled at by the harbormaster for not stopping at a red light that we had failed to see ... of course the second after he yelled at us it turned green. The change of water level in the locks is pretty gradual, so it's less exciting than I thought it would be. It was pretty novel though. There are ropes hanging off the sides and they tell you to just grab a rope and hold on - you're holding the rope for like 15-20 minutes as the giant concrete bathtub slowly fills... it's a 4-foot change but it's almost too slow to notice. The exciting part is, when you come out on the lake side, you are all the way out at the end of Navy Pier - not just a little bit in the lake, but fairly far out there - and the water is a lot rougher than the river and it's a sudden change!
Avatar 3:53pm

WM, I prefer to think of you as "an astute jazz." ;-) (wow, this Klangetc, will get my neighbors going. . .)

Miss G:

Itzall Hear I bought it on iTunes just now. I couldn't wait. . .(embarrassed.) I found an article about it at the Washington Post and an idiot commented that the song sounded like "the aural equivalent of 'Infinite Jest.'" What a loss, to be so "dumb in the ears."

Miss G:

RR63 you are really rolling today. "thuh reentry skronk" I don't want to reenter!

brainiac, for me, DFW is not my style unless in prose form. But in related news, I'm about to pull down my tattered paperback of "The Crying of Lot 49" in support of the Postal Service.

I'm not so into DFW too. I'm reluctant to say that because I've found I bum people out with that thought. Kinda like telling your normal co-workers that Forrest Gump is a terrible movie.
