Have the storms hit yet MR Fodder? I saw a pic of montreal yesterday and it was insane!

my goodness, this vocalist sounds like Shelley Winters!

Hey MB, Linda, Fab, O.T.I.S.!

Last night notso, closing windows and towels soaked with rain. It was tropical I tell ya.

I just sing the Sid lyrics when I hear this song.
Avatar 7:09pm
Linda Lee:

i was *just* reading about 'the great rock & roll swindle' online last night & realized i've never seen it, though i've heard Sid's cover for sure.
Avatar 7:10pm
Linda Lee:

not a very good film, apparently.
Avatar 7:10pm
notsoKWYET:

there was one of those today here... and I was biking through it lol
Avatar 7:11pm
Linda Lee:

must tell you, 'ragtime cowboy joe' helps a very poor dinner. thanks for that one!

Rich in Washington:

Was that Thurl on that Sons of the Pioneers track? Was he like an auxiliary member or something?
Avatar 7:13pm
spacebrother:

@ Rich - It really does sound like Thurl, but it's not.
Avatar 7:13pm
Linda Lee:

that spade cooley track is pretty hot!
Avatar 7:14pm
Mr Fab:

Linda, “Great Rock n Roll Swindle” ain't great, but it's a record of a glorious time.
Avatar 7:14pm
Forevermore Fodder:

Greg, will do you do an Aloha Friday? Gettin' in the mood here for a drink.
Avatar 7:15pm
spacebrother:

I may do that! Good idea!
Avatar 7:15pm
Linda Lee:

so it's mainly a doc, Mr. F?
Avatar 7:15pm

Should you ever decide to do an Aloha Fridays, Spacebrother, that Les Paul track fits like XL sized hawaiian shirt.

i read that review twice & i'm still not sure what the film *is*! haha!

Cooley was a pretty hot shit musician, unfortunately overshadowed by his dark legacy.

AlooooooooooooHaaw!
Avatar 7:16pm
Linda Lee:

please do one, Greg!
oh boy. what happened, Rich?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Rich in Washington:

It's a sort of loose biography of the Sex Pistols story but really disjointed and in some bits pretty incomprehensible. I think it was salvaged from an earlier attempt to make a movie with them when they were still together.
Avatar 7:17pm
Linda Lee:

ah. ok.
Avatar 7:18pm
Mr Fab:

Greg could play Lots of hawaiian slide guitar!

Linda, its a bit of a mess of a film. From what i understand , its cobbled together from 3 aborted films, some straight doc, some more staged.

so they tried for a Godard vibe & didn't make it. :-D
Avatar 7:19pm

there's only one Godard, i think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Rich in Washington:

There was an attempt to make a Sex Pistols film by Russ Meyer with script by Roger Ebert but the former backed out.
Avatar 7:19pm
Linda Lee:

hahah!! Roger Ebert! i'd have backed out too!
Avatar 7:19pm

Licorice Pizza was a chain of record stores. I remember that logo well, probly some of the first rekkids I bought were from there.

no movie with Mary Woronov in it can be bad. It's just not possible.
Avatar 7:25pm
spacebrother:

@ Rich - AMEN.
Avatar 7:25pm
Linda Lee:

just had a look at the trailer. looks tacky & fun, like "Frankenhooker" :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Rich in Washington:

just as no movie with Susan Tyrell in it can be bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah, it's plenty tacky and the humor really works. It's almost a sendup of 50s horror movies (kids and teens against a monster) but set in an overtly over-the-top 80s sensibility.
  7:27pm
mmzm:

I liked her in Fat City
Avatar 7:28pm
Linda Lee:

you're right about Mary Woronov for sure. :-)
  7:28pm
mmzm:

wasn't Mary Woronov warhol girl?
Avatar 7:29pm
Linda Lee:

yes. later on at the factory. Mary Might.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Rich in Washington:

Indeed she was!
  7:31pm
mmzm:

she's quite a dancer! I've seen hers in film with Stallone
Avatar 7:32pm
Mr Fab:

It's surprising how pretty she was in the Warhol years. She played so many fearsome creatures in her later film work.
Avatar 7:34pm
Linda Lee:

we're all much prettier as youngsters. that's a fact. :-)

Richard Elfman did a Forbidden Zone sequel fairly recently. I got to meet him briefly at a premiere of it in my town but unfortunately couldn't stay to watch the movie!

rather Ramonesy there, Stewart. Da Brudders even had a song called "I Don't Care."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm

And Black Flag had Don't Care, which OG singer Keith Morris brought with him to The Circle Jerks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i dunno about that Forbidden Zone sequel, it didn't look promising to me. Nothing beats the wacky DIY "hey gang, let's put on a show" like the original
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
Rich in Washington:

That was my thought about it exactly, Granny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

"Witches Egg" from The Forbidden Zone is one of my favorite songs of ALL TIME. I <3 Susan Tyrell. <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Rich in Washington:

I was drawn to it by The Kipper Kids' Bim Bam Boom after a late night DJ who would just suddenly play that track at unexpected times.
Avatar 7:47pm
Mr Fab:

Someone has to write a book about LA's pre-punk 'Freak Scene." Not just Zappa, but the whole thing: Mystic Knights, Kipper Kids, Beefheart, Wild Man Fischer, Dr Demento, LA Free Music Society, some of the bat-poop crazy performance art at the time, the Bonzo-esque Roto Rooter Goodtime Christmas Band...Darryl world'sWorst, i commission you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i second that
Avatar 7:51pm

I heard that there was a sequel in the works. I am glad it didn't take.
