I like her as a person and wanted to like something she did. Before this, I heard two songs of hers, one was about never getting back together, which was clearly aimed at 14 year old girls. The other was an abysmal thing where she said shake 6,000 times.
What you played was listenable. I'll probably listen to more because of that.

Rev when I was in the studio I played CDs and Records, since I've been home I've been doing it all digitally but once I move to my new place (hopefully next month) I hope to get my rekkids out of storage and connect my turntable. This was never supposed to be a longterm thing, broadcasting from home.

so much of the new stuff is digital. But I like playing some of everything when I have the space and equipment!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:59pm

Nice, Julie! And close to the JC ferry, if ever broadcasting from home can be done away with.

Last time that we canoed all the way around Manhattan, I made a radio call when we were transiting the 40th St. NY Waterway ferry landing -- saying basically that, several canoes transiting the docks, please be aware. One captain answered back with an AMAZINGLY resigned, rueful, and world-weary "Copy ..."!

Is there a difference between canoeing and kayaking?

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
Handy Haversack:

Well, just different boats. Harder to bring along a cooler, grill, and lots of gear in a kayak. Or in my case, frequently, a medium-size dog. But paddle craft as qualified by the American Canoe Association are canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.

Canoes as we know them were an invention of the Native Americans of the eastern woodlands who perfected using birch bark for a light, maneuverable, brilliantly adaptable craft really well suited to the rivers around here. Kayaks are an invention of the First Nation peoples of "Alaska" and "Canada" and are skin-on-frame boats adapted to the cold waters. Hunting craft. Less cargo room!

Variants exist worldwide, of course, and Indigenous populations in the Pacific Northwest also perfected canoes made of cedar logs. But that's the elevator-pitch history of what we call kayaks and canoes.

Handy Haversack:

European invaders adopted canoes very early in the colonizing period when they saw how much better they were for local conditions than heavy rowboats. Canoes opened up the interior of the continent to further invasion, to be honest, following the fur trade. Beaver hats in London made this country what it is.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
Julie:

I figured what I usually see in the Hudson are Kayaks

Oh sorry, my chat feed is all garbled!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Julie:

hehe
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Handy Haversack:

Yeah, definitely. Kayaks are a lot more common. They are a little easier to get the hang of for basic maneuvers and also better adapted to marine conditions like we have here (waves and currents) for more expert paddlers in sea kayaks. And then also there are a LOT of cheap plastic recreational kayaks out there, so more people are comfortable with them.

Manhattan Community Boathouse at 56th St. does free kayak programming (in non-COVID times) in their embayment. Great folx there!

I really value the partnership of a two-person canoe. And like having the dog along!

Plus, you can take all your firewood and beer with you!

There is a chance I have gone on at length on something that interests only me. Sorry, Julie!
