just got an email that the 8/21 Mummies show is postponed. this time tho they're asking if you want your money back or credit for other shows. bummer I've wanted to see them for a real long time. better than spreading the virus.
  2:12pm clarke:

good gosh - i have NO IDEA how people lived in new orleans in the pre-a/c days! woolen suits, etc. ????
  2:14pm clarke:

of course, if you could afford it, the city emptied out during the summer. grand isle was the garden district, then.
Avatar 2:14pm TDK60:

Just checked, electric fans go back to 1882. Radio broadcasting started round 1919.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm pantz:

Before AC politicians in DC would take long breaks in the summer and actually get bills passed quickly so they could get the hell out of there. We need some of that again.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Handy Haversack:

Kate was coming back from walking the dog yesterday, and a guy, the driver, was getting out of one of the couple of dozen yellow cabs that park on our block. He didn't have a shirt on. Kate said, "Hot enough for you?" His response: "I am disgusting."

The slope is slippery with sweat!
Avatar 2:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

pantz has it zipped up.
We need to spend the next ~100 days building an army to surge on the Vote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm pantz:

Let's get it buttoned up, Rev Rabbit!
Avatar 2:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

....one is being deployed to prevent us already as it happens...
Avatar 2:17pm Hubig Pie:

clarke - 14ft. ceilings, double hung windows (top sash down 1/3, bottom sash up 2/3), and ya hung on the stoop
  2:18pm clarke:

well, i have all that and a/c and it still gets warm!!
Avatar 2:18pm spodiodi:

lol Handy @214
  2:19pm clarke:

i believe it was called the veranda, btw.
  2:22pm clarke:

i mean, when i went to grammar school, here, there was NO a/c!! i don't remember being hot. memory is a funny thang.
Avatar 2:22pm Carmichael:

The lanai.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm mariano:

pantz: I like the idea of cutting off Congress's AC to get them to move things along.

clarke/Hubig: Yeah I hear you. I'm in an apartment in an old house with 14-ft ceilings and one window unit, impossible to cool down or warm up completely (no heat at all). Trying to cajole the landlord into installing central, though I don't know how feasible it would be.
  2:24pm clarke:

it is tough to do central a/c without having outrageous bills. sounds like you need to build a sleep chamber with a window unit!
Avatar 2:24pm TDK60:

I think I saw somewhere, a lot of music clubs used to close down for the summer in the 1920s; too hot.
  2:24pm clarke:

which i have thought about, often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm mariano:

clarke: If it's particularly bad I sleep in the living room, where the window unit is. That part stays cool at least. In winter I keep a small space heater on the bed with me, seems to do the trick.
Avatar 2:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ironically, without renewables, A/C adds to the problem. Granted we're human & there's the heat index.
  2:27pm clarke:

have you ever considered building a little temp room within a room?? next to a window with a/c??
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:27pm WoodsOfNH:

@mariano Two words: heat pump
  2:28pm clarke:

i am trying to figure out how to build a portable drum booth - but, could be multi-purpose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm pantz:

Swamp coolers are pretty handy if you can find one. I used to have one when I lived in Denver (a lot of the older homes were built w/o central air) and it worked a treat.
  2:29pm clarke:

what's a swamp cooler?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm pantz:

It's a fan with a water receptacle. The fan cools the water which blows out, so a cool mist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm mariano:

Yeah, what's a swamp cooler? And a heat pump?
  2:31pm Dennis Diken:

yeah Joe!
Avatar 2:31pm Jersey Cowboy:

Thanks for the good stuff, Joe!
  2:31pm clarke:

ahhh. AHHH!!!
  2:34pm clarke:

obviously, you have to use a swamp cooler on the veranda, not inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm mariano:

I saw a tutorial video on how to put together a makeshift AC with a styrofoam cooler and a curved duct fan. You put ice in the cooler, a hole in one side of the lid with an elbow duct sticking out, another elbow with the fan in it on the other side. Supposed to draw in air from the back, pass it over the ice, then blow out the cool air.

King Khan and the Shrines, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Phillippe Bastille:

@clarke the sleep chamber isn't really a bad idea. Set up one of those canopy things, drape sheets over the sides, push it up against the wall where the a/c is, and sleep like an eskimo
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Handy Haversack:

Swamp coolers are fairly easy to rig up: you can use an Igloo cooler. Or your favorite Epsom Salts basin. Just, you know, don't let the fan fall in the water! Not recommended near excitable dogs.
  2:35pm clarke:

or even just sheet-rock and insulate a tiny room, with a vent to put the mini-fridge in there, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm mariano:

Oh, so it looks like I've just described a swamp cooler basically.
  2:39pm turtles:

That’s was jammin.
  2:40pm clarke:

sort-of - the thing you describe is more inside the house friendly
  2:41pm morphe':

Thanks Joe B and all...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Handy Haversack:

You can also keep your beers in the swamp cooler. Maximum efficiency.
  2:41pm clarke:

i remember going to lsu football games as a kid and they had those huge airport fans with huge blocks of ice tied to the backs of them on the sidelines.
  2:43pm clarke:

but there would be a huge puddle of mud behind them after the game
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm chris:

hi, Joe and peeps.
three clicky-stars in a row. you have me figured out.
all the sets have been great, tho.
thanks, Joe!
  2:44pm clarke:

also, i am sure some of you have noticed some of the bars in nola have windows above the front overhang?? i could point out St. Joe's Bar on mag street as one example....
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Handy Haversack:

Saw this record-release show 2/15 in Brooklyn. I wonder how many more gigs they were able to play after that before the venues closed.
  2:45pm ami ad:

mmmmm,beers.
  2:45pm clarke:

...this was designed so the ice-man could hoist huge blocks of ice to the windows where the fans would blow cold air through the bar
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm PaulRobeson1920:

Thats right @TDK 2:14. And the Telegraph never was to recover its place of prominence. The new medium supersedes the old...
Avatar 2:46pm Joe B:

thanks Chris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm mariano:

But what if I don't drink beer or any kind of booze, Handy? I'm just SOL or something?

That's interesting, clarke, didn't know that. I know people used to hang out in ice houses if they could.
  2:47pm clarke:

speaking of FANS - you got a new orleans contingency Joe!!
  2:47pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey JB! Perfect show for today - thanks!
  2:48pm clarke:

the overhangs were of a height where the ice man's wagon allowed him to push the blocks onto the overhangs. off the carriage
Avatar 2:48pm Joe B:

thanks clarke! thanks BPN!
  2:48pm ami ad:

wouldn't mind checking into an ice hotel for the next few months.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:49pm WoodsOfNH:

And they didn't choose this track for the original Tusk release? Dang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm coelacanth∅:

rest in peace Peter Green.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Handy Haversack:

I *guess* you could keep nonalcoholic beers in a swamp cooler, Mariano, but I think it voids the warranty.
  2:50pm clarke:

speaking of ice houses - you know that tiny building across from Ugly Dog BBQ in warehouse district?? used to be an ice-house
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:50pm PaulRobeson1920:

Great music. Thank you
  2:50pm phat:

Damn. This Fleetwood Mac is something else. I need to get a copy of Tusk.
  2:50pm phat:

Wait. This isn't on Tusk?
  2:51pm clarke:

this ain't on the original album of Tusk
Avatar 2:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I suppose Peter Green's soul is now permanently free of the commercialism he feared when he converted - quit what have you. His sense of what Mac would become was eerily correct if not entirely all his decisions...
  2:51pm clarke:

bonus cut
  2:52pm phat:

Ah

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm mariano:

clarke: I've driven by it but not gone in (I don't think, unless when I was a kid), but looking at the street view it makes sense, it has that big barn door. It's a pizza place now.

Thank you Joe B, thank you Skeleton Crew. Take care y'all!
  2:54pm ami ad:

Thank you DJ,Crew. Don't forget to water your plants.

I think of Peter Green as Spooky! Not just good - but coming from somewhere emotionally & spiritually both deep & a bit haunted.
