@LG: yeah, Gonzalez is always always worth checking out. He leads different groups, and habitually adds some geographic tag depending on who's in the band, where recorded, etc. DG is from Texas, but that was recorded at Joe Morris's CT studio.

definitely check the lead off track from that hutcherson/land san francisco album, “goin’ down south”. one of my favorite songs ever. first heard it on a very formative (for me) blue note compilation called straight no chaser (originals of later sampled tracks)

The Bird/Diz 1945 Town Hall acetates were discovered I believe at a garage sale and released in 2005. The Monk/Coltrane 1957 Carnegie Hall set was "discovered" and released that same year. So hope springs eternal for "lost" gems.

I'm glad I got to see Ornette once, and even more how he lingered after his set to meet people as ushers were telling him to get off stage and he just waved them off. He seemed so happy to meet young people (the show had a few high school classes in attendance, many of which dug it)
