	♥ 2:46pm coelacanth∅: he imagined everything through, musically, i think, so he wanted to control those situations so to realise his vision. he would've had to relax a bit to work with Miles.

	2:48pm Linda Lee: actually, i feel one of the best guitarists of the early 70s was a woman fortunate enough to watch Jimi play closely.. after which she brought sounds from her guitar that no one was pulling out at the time. her name is June Millington; with her sister Jean they headed the first all-female band to record an album: Fanny. watching videos of her playing at the time is a revelation.
	2:49pm Linda Lee: she was guided in her craft by Jimi for sure. the fact that the label didn't know how to market the band is the reason they're not better known now.

	♥ 2:50pm coelacanth∅: Linda it seems so to me. i think others here may be more qualified to say. i don't know that much about Miles... but he did loosely plan out instrumentation -but leaving lots of room to improvise within those structures.

	2:55pm Linda Lee: the first with a full-length album. yes. 1969, i believe. there were other women who'd done singles, but never an album.

	2:57pm Linda Lee: David Bowie had a great respect for them. he stated to Rolling Stone in 95, i think, that they were as important as any band, ever, phenomenally ~ they were only ahead of their time. yes, ngh, look for videos on youtube. best to see them perform.

	♥ 3:11pm fred: I was given a copy of Max Roach's "Drums Unlimited" years ago when I left a job, and that's one of the best gifts I ever got (I hadn't even heard of him at the time)

	🥁 ♥ 3:20pm WR: Saw Max Roach doing solo set in 1985. I stood there a few few away mesmerized. He wasn't doing full set, just high-hat and snare.

	3:22pm Linda Lee: oh yes.. nothing like the singing of our wild relatives. i'm pretty sure we learned song from them. i love the thrushes too. they do a nice reverb here. :-)

	♥ 3:26pm coelacanth∅: when i first moved up here i lived in a tent in the wood and a particular bird awoke me every day. i recorded it but even so it was years (pre-www, for me) before i found out it was a wood thrush.
	3:26pm Linda Lee: this piece reminds me of the frogs singing down at the creek here, evenings..
	3:28pm Linda Lee: our thrushes seem to sing evenings, not mornings! some of the last songs before dark. i'm not sure why this is so.

	♥ 3:34pm fred: From mid-spring to mid-fall my alarm clocks are birds. Magpies these days (there are plenty of pigeons, but their calls don't work). Used to be crows, but they left years ago. A few have been back these past months, I hope that's a trend. I love crows

	🥁 ♥ 3:40pm doctorjazz: WR, got to see Max Roach very late in his life, but he was past being able to be the Max Roach he had always been on drums. It was kinda sad, but I was still glad to catch him (other artists I saw when they were very past their prime include Earl Fatah Hines, Sonny Stott, and Andres Segovia).
	♥ 3:41pm fred: @coel: the crows left soon after a slide was removed from a playground downstairs. I don't think it's a coincidence, I sometimes saw them playing on it (sliding and taking off just before its end)

	🥁 ♥ 3:57pm doctorjazz: Some folks defy time-Benny Carter kept playing past 90 years of age, frequently in the NY area, and it was always great to see him. (He did play both trumpet and sax when he was younger, and had too give up trumpet when he got older, but the sac playing always remained strong).

	2:48pm Linda Lee: actually, i feel one of the best guitarists of the early 70s was a woman fortunate enough to watch Jimi play closely.. after which she brought sounds from her guitar that no one was pulling out at the time. her name is June Millington; with her sister Jean they headed the first all-female band to record an album: Fanny. watching videos of her playing at the time is a revelation.
	2:49pm Linda Lee: she was guided in her craft by Jimi for sure. the fact that the label didn't know how to market the band is the reason they're not better known now.

It was kinda sad, but I was still glad to catch him (other artists I saw when they were very past their prime include Earl Fatah Hines, Sonny Stott, and Andres Segovia).
