I grew up in the south and am legally obligated to to say "lightning bugs" and order a "Coke" and then define what sort of soda I want (should I ever want a soda). But it sure is nice out. We went paddling today to Brooklyn Bridge and whistled and screamed as one of the biggest marches I have ever seen in my life crossed it. So great. So great.

	♥ 9:45pm slugluv1313: greetings, Daniel and everyone! that sounds so cool, Handy! on the walk home from Trader Joe's earlier -- no marches or anything, but i did see a lightning bug (first of the season!) -- s/he landed on my hand and walked with me for a bit, until i found some flowers where s/he could hang out :) (born and raised and will probably die in NJ -- i recall people using fireflies and lightning bugs interchangeably)

	🌫 ♥ 9:48pm Handy Haversack: I would do that too, chresti. This was my big gesture moment. Not well thought through. There are fireworks pretty constant over here. I am usually the biggest sucker around for fireworks but having some trouble getting jazzed up for July Fourth stuff these days. Though back in the day when the East River fireworks would set off local car alarms, I did particularly enjoy shouting "Someone's stealing your liberty!"

For a little while I could see it through the trees alongside me, and sometimes only its shadow coming through the trees onto the road before me. It was a very cool experience.

	♥ 10:22pm slugluv1313: @ mariano -- YIKES!!!!!! i had to do some research on Juneteenth -- not just WHY the hell it has been barely recognized, but if i could remember being taught about this date -- turns out we did learn about it in junior high social studies as "Emancipation Day" -- but not that it was celebrated or anything (ugh, NJ suburbs in the 70s . . . one cool thing i DO remember is that our social studies teacher showed us a black and white photograph of kkk members burning a cross, and asked us where and when we thought it happened -- we all thought it was like in the mid-1800s, down south somewhere -- but nope! it took place in 1970 near Hightstown, NJ -- being clueless suburban goofballs, we were all shocked -- "that can't happen here!" etc.)

Brothers Adam (London Improvisers Orchestra, Secluded Bronte) and Jonathan Bohman (Secluded Bronte, Apricot My Lady) have been making a racket together since their early teens in the mid 70's. They use homemade instruments, household objects, borrowed texts and whatever else happens to be at hand to create their spontaneous sound slice-em-ups and have worked with Christian Marclay, Lol Coxhill, Felix Kubin, Jim O’Rourke, and Charles Hayward, among others. We went paddling today to Brooklyn Bridge and whistled and screamed as one of the biggest marches I have ever seen in my life crossed it. So great. So great.

I am usually the biggest sucker around for fireworks but having some trouble getting jazzed up for July Fourth stuff these days. Though back in the day when the East River fireworks would set off local car alarms, I did particularly enjoy shouting "Someone's stealing your liberty!"
