Hey all, I gotta tell you about this wild dream I had last night… I was across the table from this woman I didn’t know, but who seemed really smart and cool. She was wearing a WFMU “Consistently Inconsistent” shirt and rolling a 40-sided die that CONSISTENTLY came up on the NUMBER 5. Like something out of a David Lynch film, you know? And it looked just…like…THIS…

Avatar 3:13pm
brainiac:

So hypnotic, right? Anyway, the dream continued but the scene changed to this same woman in a band, and the band’s music was available on Bandcamp: creekandkills.bandcamp.com

It was then revealed to me that all the proceeds from sales in June went to two worthy causes. But here’s where it gets weird: TODAY—JUNE 5TH—Bandcamp waives their fee, so all the money is straight up DONATION to these causes!
It all seemed so real!

We are both in tears here. This is going to be a long show.

Thanks, friend!

That's my partner Kate's band. And today is our twenty-first anniversary. And we have spent all day drawing attention to the causes that she and the band are supporting with the sales for this month.

And, you know, just being absolutely raw.

So, so glad to have a place like this and to be a part of the WFMU community.

Remember that there is a difference between "white guilt" and acknowledging that you (and I) have NOT been doing what we HAVE to for everyone who lives in a separate reality that is engineered to make sure they never have the same advantages as we do, simply by virtue of the family they were born into. Do your thing, Sheila. The way you use your platform has been inspiring to me and, I'd guess, to other DJ's- not just the idea that we can use our platform to speak out if we want, but more importantly that we can do it and still have it be good radio.

In NL there are a lot of protest demonstrations as well. But fortunately we have an experienced prime minister (Mark Rutte) who's saying very wise words these days. That really helps a lot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm

Well said, Matt Fiveash. This is great radio. And Todd last week, efd, you, so many DJs -- the radio is even better when invested with purpose and passion. It's so, so crucially uplifting when things seem so bleak and brutal and fighting seems so hard.

So: thanks. To you and Sheila and Ken and ALL of you.

It's almost impossible to respond meaningfully to your comments within the limited confines of the message board, but I think there are two further questions you should ask: 1) do you believe in collective guilt (all Germans are responsible for Hitler, all Russians are responsible for Stalin, etc.)? 2) is race real, meaning is the very process of racial classification rational and logical? (The best book I know on this subject is The Racialization of America by Yehudi Webster.) P.S I love your show and admire your courage.

I'm in Norfolk now . . I'll share what I submitted earlier.

Conflict is a major source of collective struggle. Quite obviously. So with that context, stop naming "things" with and representing "culture" through the public dime!
Should public money be used to celebrate specific political figures or historical perspectives? NO!
Should public money be used on facilities or other objects named for select political ideologies? NO!
Conflict is a major source of collective struggle! Yet, egoistic group-think insists on shooting us all in the foot. In the name of posterity. In the name of division.
