I just about melt, @Woods: It ends the week at that moment. And weeks are hard. It hold all the promise of the weekend in those notes. And then these few hours of Sheila's tunes and confab with the SBBers are a real soul wash for me and Kate. We look forward to it all week.

Weekends can be hard, too, of course. But this is SUCH a relief and such a reminder of and promise of good times with good stuff.

I had an acquaintance from Djibouti once when we were both exchange students in France. He came across as very modern, even preppy, yet he caused a stir when he said he supported female infant genital mutilation (a custom in that part of Africa which may or may not have a religious foundation in Islam, I’m not sure to be honest). For example: In the novel "A Grain of Wheat" a christian Kenyan student angers a christian missionary by arguing that circumcision is universal not male only, which all his classmates agree with.

Before this lockdown changed everything, i would be on my subway trip home and I'd see people looking tense and sipping large coffees; I just knew they were on their way to their second job and that would make me sad. My problem w/ golf courses is the exceptional ecological damage most utilize to keep up maintainence in the US. There are organic ways to do so, and ways not to use so much water, but most don't. Then there is the way so space is taken up by them that would be better served as a park for the public, and not just the private purview for the rich.

@Tom: yes, municipal courses are open to the public and usually have affordable green fees. But they are fewer to find.

@Phillippe: One anecdote, one place that closed down 5 years ago became a nature preserve and a bike/hike trail. In central FL, most of the McMansionvilles were recently citrus groves.

(and I grew up playing golf, and was rather decent)
