A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 28 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. [On hiatus.] (Visit homepage.)

Favoriting April 22, 2020: Our Jill? (Latter Day Sainthood) + schnappi schnappi schnappi (Shows #353/349 as #710)

Two ultra-strange classic collages from 2005:

Hour 1: Our Jill? (Latter Day Sainthood): Scary, epileptic hour-long exploration of a Church of Jesus Christ Public Service Announcement. (We're here to listen.)

Hour 2: schnappi schnappi schnappi: We all live on a stage where many infinities gather. Dance to the music.

Sorry about all your dance events going bye bye
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm

It sucks, but it's far worse for the dancers (no income, no training, they must be going crazy)

I like this a lot

Glad, fred! Not every show was at all the same, here's proof.

I've been listening to the same short loop from a record on my sampler for a couple of days now. I swear it changes over time.

@Rich: did you ever go to a harsh noise wall show? Vomir is great at that static frequency pile up. He doesn't like that I won't stand with a garbage bag over my face during his sets, but moving around, sitting and standing lets me make my own show. I'm just not creative enough for my mind to fill in the blanks on its own

Rich in Washington:

I've been to quite a few interesting 'Noise' shows. One of my favorite acts is a gentleman who performed under the monicker Soup Purse, so called because at one show, he showered participants with soup that was spewing out of a lady's purse which he was swinging around frantically, and the name stuck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
fred:

@Kenzo: That only happened in your mind. But speaking of dancing, Lucinda Childs' The Day had a soundtrack (in part) of sentences starting with "I remember the day". Turning rhythmic and meaningless after a while, but with random spikes of meaning

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I had someone dancing right against the speaker during an avant loop show I did in Jersey City. At some point it blasted really loud and I still feel badly but she still talks to me so I guess it was OK.

Rich in Washington:

Maybe my favorite Noise artist in my area is Daniel Menche, whose sonic sculptures are quite amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
fred:

@Rich: one of the reasons why I usually stay in the back of the room, near the exit (though soup is definitely one of the mildest thing I've seen thrown at a noise show)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
fred:

I love Daniel Menche! I spend a few years lobbying for my workplace to offer him a residency (to no avail, obviously)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Rich in Washington:

I was also at this open mic type Noise throwdown kind of event - one of those 'lots of young dudes in black hoodies fucking around with stompboxes on the floor' type shows. There was a lot of testosterone in the air. One kind of urban redneck type dude's set consisted of him going nuts with an angle grinder on something with a contact pickup on it and spraying everyone with hot sparks and chunks of hot metal. He then got really carried away and threw the angle grinder. He ended up being forcibly ejected from the event.

@Rich: Funniest thing at a noise even (a harsh noise wall festival): seeing the bearded guys hanging out in front before it started, a guy comes up and asks "is this the mosque?". Weird timing as he came up at just the time nobody was holding a beer
