WFMU Fundraiser Show With MC Trouble
Please Make a Pledge Here, Thanks!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Greetings dear listeners! I know it's a difficult time for all of us, but I hope you can pledge tonight to support WFMU. We will keep the music rolling for you as a little respite from the craziness as we all try to make it through these challenging times.

If you pledge to my show right here, as usual I've made a custom conceptual world music cd for everyone who pledges $75 or more.

This year's custom cd is Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg presents Switched-On Planet: A global keyboard bacchanal: sublime, absurd, and spectacular international synth/piano/keyboard-driven gems!

Of course, if my cd doesn't float your boat you can choose a different DJ's premium (cd or otherwise) instead. (Or if you make a one-time or swag-for-life pledge at higher levels you can choose multiple DJ premiums.) You can see the full list of DJ CD premiums at https://wfmu.org/dj-premiums/.

I’m now in my fourth decade on WFMU! Who’d a thunk it? Perhaps you’ll consider celebrating my radio longevity / commitment / obsession to discovering, learning about and especially sharing far-flung music from around the globe by making a $10 per month (or more) sustaining Swag For Life pledge.

If you do, your cup shall runneth over with WFMU swag EVERY year!

This year for a pledge of $50 or more you get our spanking new Event Horizon T-shirt designed by Matt Osborn T-shirt plus a WFMU bumper sticker.

And for a $10 per month swag for life pledge you'll receive our brand new WFMU Visionary Pyramid T-Shirt designed by Dima Djuchin!

Bump your monthly Swag For Life pledge to #15 a month (or make a one-time $180 pledge or multiple pledges adding up to $180 or more) and you'll receive our truly one-of-a-kind Mindfulness for Jerk-Offs Cassette / mp3 download with audio tracks created by over 40 WFMU DJs and art by SWIVS! That level also entitles you to the two new t-shirts, the sticker AND 3 DJ premiums! Bonus: You also can have a WFMU fixture re-named in your honor!

We love dollar a day Swag For Life pledgers - we call that a "Mouse of Today" pledge. And if you "drop a Mouse" on our show (a $365 one-time pledge or multiple pledges adding up to $365 or more also do the trick) you'll receive tons of swag! Including Olaf’s Chiller Pullover Hoodie on black cotton designed by Olaf.! That level also entitles you to the two new t-shirts, sticker, the Mindfulness cassette AND 7 DJ premiums!

Bump your Mouse of Today commitment up to $41 per month (or make one-time pledge or pledges totalling $500) and you'll get a dozen DJ premiums, the two-t-shirts, hoodie, Mindfulness cassette, sticker, a choice of two classic prizes from our warehouse, AND the beautifully designed WFMUNITED Altered States of Music Map designed by Greg Harrison!

But any amount you can pledge is most fabulous and wonderful. And it just takes a $20 pledge to get our fab new Chiller Die-Cut Bumper Sticker, designed by Olaf, discount admission to our Record Fair April 24 - 26 at Brooklyn Expo Center - AND you’ll get in the running for a prize drawing for one of the great LPs and CDs I’m giving away to lucky pledgers this evening!

A premium-cd-level pledge of $75 or more made during tonight's show also gets you into the running for our grand prize, Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Project: Six film classics from around the world on DVD and Blu-Ray, courtesy of the Criterion Collection

From https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/1021-martin-scorsese-s-world-cinema-project: Established by Martin Scorsese in 2007, the World Cinema Project expands the horizons of moviegoers everywhere. The mission of the WCP is to preserve and present marginalized and infrequently screened films from regions generally ill equipped to preserve their own cinema history. This collector’s set brings together six superb films from countries around the globe, including Senegal (Touki bouki), Mexico (Redes), India and Bangladesh (A River Called Titas), Turkey (Dry Summer), Morocco (Trances), and South Korea (The Housemaid). Each is a cinematic revelation, depicting a culture not often seen by outsiders on-screen.

What is SWAG FOR LIFE? It's WFMU's sustaining donor program - where we ask you to commit to a small monthly donation and as our thank-you for that commitment, you receive LOTS of swag. Sustaining pledgers are critical to the station's financial health and we are hoping many of you decide to become "Swag For Lifers" this month! It's all explained at https://wfmu.org/swagforlife/.

SEE THE SWAG (what you get at various pledge levels - new sticker, new t-shirts, and lots of other brand new goodies at higher levels) at https://wfmu.org/swag.

And whatever you can pledge to support our very special radio station is so very much appreciated. Thanks soooooo much!

BRIC has created a great resource list for artists during the viral crisis:

How the Arts and Culture Sector Can Prepare for the Coronavirus in the United States

As we take heightened precautions to support public health initiatives, including temporarily closing our doors, we want to maintain our unwavering support of the artistic and creative community and ensure that you continue to thrive. To that end, we have compiled a list of shared resources from local and national arts and culture organizations.

These resources offer assistance, such as financial support and opportunities for artists to continue to express their creative potential during these difficult times. They should not be mistaken for public health information distributed by city and state authorities.

In the coming days and weeks, finding ways to support one another will become especially crucial. At BRIC, we reaffirm our commitment to support visual artists, performers, and media makers as we unite Brooklyn through art and creativity, together, to build community and make change. We hope you will find the links below to be of use to you and your creative community as we all navigate the impact of the novel Coronavirus/COVID-19.

We will continue to add new links and resources over the coming weeks. Please check our blog for updates, or follow BRIC on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook @bricbrooklyn.

For perspective for those not in NYC or NJ, there are two major things affecting bars, restaurants and venues around here nowadays: In Jersey City, there is a 10:00pm curfew on bars. And in NYC gathers of 250 or more people are shutting down and the Department of Health has stated that all places that serve food needs to cut their capacity in 1/2. Was at this cafe I like to hang out at on the weekends, and they removed more than a few tables and window seats… But despite that they were not at capacity even 1/2 capacity due to everyone just not going out.

And personally, I was in TriBeCa, Chinatown and Union Square this afternoon and honestly it is creepily dead. 14th Street Union Square station which is usually mad busy around 6:00pm on a Saturday night was genuinely empty.

if you feel like exploring NYC while it’s quite the next few weeks (month?) is definitely the time.
