I think it’s pretty phonetic pronunciation; maybe a bit more - (me’ gaas). That’s how the folks at my favorite Mexican breakfast joint on Louisville say it.

interesting recipe. i've had so many variations on lentil soup over the years but the only ones with lemon or lime were red lentils -turkish style; smooth...no pieces of anything, and the lemon or lime is on the side.
