Another bit of comedy music for me that transcends novelty is Alice Bowie Band's "Earache My Eye." I love that song!

@tadpoles, the lyrics to Bass Macaw & Broken Bottles is very disturbing.

Don't know if it's on the docket, but the '90s Rutles album ("Archaeology") is super underrated. The version of "Shangri La" on that album may be the most comprehensive Beatles parody ever recorded.

And Eddie Murphy's "Boogie in the Butt". That a jam!

I saw Neil play at Maxwells (gonna guess a dozen years ago?). He opened with "Urban Spaceman," said "That was my medley of hit," and tossed off the Beatle wig he was wearing.

@The Osacar, Lonely Phobia and I Love You are great songs from that "collection".

@steveo I think I read somewhere that the Rutles began because Eric Idle pointed out that the songs he was writing for the show they were doing together were getting more and more Beatlesque, so they decided to lean into the curve!

Outstanding. Will be linking to that...
Rutles is plain freaking genius - & before Spinal Tap. The dry take on it is part of the thang...

Just in time Joe. I hope Neil heard this and many other tributes on his birthday. Had book marked this show since seeing it mentioned on DDR. The unexpected and sad news today put listening to this to the top of the list. Lovely survey. Followed the Twitter link @Bill W posted @11:41. Just a few days ago he was grumping cleverly about the world. Had not noticed before how much love of humanity he carried with every clever turn of phrase.
