Can anyone ID today's mystery LP under the cassettes? (Not that there's too much to go on -- but, still.)

Is the mystery record Journey's Frontiers?
Avatar 12:11pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Nick S! I sort of celebrated Thanksgiving. There was no turkey for me, since I'm a vegetable -- but I knocked the stuffing out of the stuffing.

:)
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Nope -- it's not Journey. The artist's initials are F.F.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Yvang:

Totally mysterious to me, but based on the tv/video lines aesthetic, I would say it's at least from the eighties, right?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Yvang:

And it's not Franz Ferdinand
  12:13pm
Dean:

Oh, so not Shriekback. Resembles their Big Night Music.
Avatar 12:13pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Yvang: Indeed, it is from the '80s. 1987, to be exact.
Avatar 12:14pm

Hey, Dean! Nope, not Shriekback.

Furan Furan?
Avatar 12:16pm

Nope -- and not Femerson, Fake & Falmer either.

This F.F. actually had a show on FMU for a while, back in the '80s.

It's Frith's "The Technology of Tears": www.discogs.com...
Avatar 12:32pm
Tony Coulter:

Frith's FMU show (which was pretty short-lived, I think) is what actually got me listening to the station, along with R. Stevie Moore's show. I stumbled on Frith's program while randomly flipping the dial, in search of something listenable.
Avatar 12:33pm
Tony Coulter:

He maybe even have just been a guest host for a couple of weeks, or something. I should try to find out, since I've been repeating this story for years.
Avatar 12:40pm
Kay:

Joyeuses Mécaniques ! sounded a little heavy on the left channel. Are your heads aligned?
Avatar 12:41pm
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Kay! I noticed that too -- I *think* it's the tape, and not my deck.
Avatar 12:46pm
Tony Coulter:

A lot of these self-released cassettes have channel imbalance problems -- probably a function of them being cranked out by the artists themselves, on their own sometimes overused and dodgy cassette decks. Can drive me nuts when I focus on it ... so I try not to!

It's like, do I record with Dolby B/C on, or not? Do I playback a tape with Dolby B/C listed with that noise deadening setting?
Avatar 12:58pm
Tony Coulter:

Yea, that can be maddening too: some tapes that claim to be dolby-ized sound far worse with dolby on.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Yvang:

the dolby purpose was to kill the tape hiss, but the sound was harmed too...
Avatar 1:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Exactly. Every once in a while dolby works well -- but usually it doesn't.

By the way, this cassette's tracklist *does* list the Dream Flesh track as "Original Copylat," even though he sings "Original Copycat." It's probably just a typo, but I am a faithful scribe, so....

Love the music of Enno Velthuys. His music used to be a feature on Ad Visser's Hilversum 3 radio programme "Super Clean Dream Machine" in the 80's. I need more! :)-)

Do you have any more info about this Mark Klee track?
Is this "Mr. Mark" from Allentown, PA?
  1:39pm
Dave in St Albans UK:

A weekly hour long show. Listened mainly on AM and occasionally on VHF (FM) when conditions allowed in the Summer. There is a website dedicated to the show which has many recordings available to download. A treat. Also there was a feature programme of Enno's music last month on NTS Radio.
Avatar 1:39pm
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Asheville Jon! Not sure where this Mark Klee is from (other than the U.S.).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Asheville Jon:

Thanks. I saw the "video" on the tube of you, and it gives the impression that it is, but it sure does not sound like him, and I've never heard a Mr Mark show with this track being played in it. I guess it's possible though. (and I knew him personally, so there's that too)
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

This tape does come with a booklet, which might answer your question -- but I can't find it at the moment.

Dave in St Albans UK:

Tony this is a magical show tonight. Appreciate it very much.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:45pm

No problem Tony. I am just a big Mr Mark fan, and possibly "finding" new stuff is always nice to add to the "collection".
Avatar 1:45pm

Thanks, Dave!

Dean:

Per a YouTube comment from 2014, "Mark Klee was a bay area artist and radio host who shot himself in 2001. Very creative, some of his artwork made it to Unsound 3."
Avatar 1:46pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: That sounds like this tape's Mark Klee.
  1:47pm

This one is yum yums
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:49pm

yeah, but Mark Klee aka Mr Mark was definitely not from the bay area, and "killed himself" in PA.

hey ya'll! Tony, are you still not archiving the Tape Hiss selections? Cuz "One for Bangkok" is rad. Lotsa great stuff here.
  1:51pm
Dean:

Here's a YT of the PA Mr. Mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8rXHM0gdxQ

I'll guess that reference to "bay area" was mistaken.
Avatar 1:52pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mr. Fab! Yeah, I'm still not archiving these Tape Hisses. (Not my idea, by the way -- it's a "management" decision -- because I play whole releases on Tape Hiss shows and sometimes unreleased stuff.)

  2:02pm
Martinibomb:

Just got a working tape player over the summer.
  2:03pm

@Fab the best place is used record shops sometimes sell gear like that at least here in Portland. I got mine from my buddy at Clinton street records. There's gotta be a place in LA that is similar?
Avatar 2:04pm
Mr Fab:

Probably, It's just that when i go to used record shops I just look at records! But will look in to that.
