Oof, painful, @clarke, sorry to hear! Speaking of 3+ hour movies that could've used an intermission, in the early aughts I went to see Matthew Barney's Cremaster 3 with some friends. One of the most eye-glazingly tedious experiences of my life, especially because it was a midnight show. My butt fell asleep and I swear it took an hour for it to get back to normal after it was over. |

I've seen a bunch of Jarmusch movies and liked them (esp. the early ones), but with his slow pacing and weird characters, they're an acquired taste. I think "Broken Flowers" was the last one of his I saw; didn't see his zombie movie (weird that this indie director has now made films about zombies and vampires). I didn't like Anderson much either, but was totally taken by Moonrise Kingdom, and Grand Budapest Hotel. He creates his own worlds and odd plots, but I guess some people find that childish or weird. Yeah, we watched Budapest on cable and were just taken in by it...great. I see others here are commenting on Mr. Mull---pretty sure I remember watching that on PBS back when. His albums were full of funny parodies, commentary on music of the day (as Flo & Eddie did), etc. I think his last album has fake commercials (like for "Bun & Run"). Saw him at the Palace in Albany around 1979; I think the place was half-filled. Wish he'd do some music again, instead of taking roles on crappy sitcoms (I keep expecting him to turn up on "The Conners").

Royal Tenenbaums was the one that made me stop watching Anderson movies (for awhile)....I spent half the movie trying to figure out WHEN it was taking place, since they kept showing old technology (phonographs, etc.) but I guess that was a comment on the family, not to set up the time period. Also thought the dialogue and family dynamics (mean father, etc.) wasn't that original.

![]() Baby in all seriousness, we are are here because of your fantabulous musical taste. Anything music related would be a gift. Anything else is a trip to goodwill waiting to happen. I have this Otis 45...I read that it was issued by John Fred. It came out a good # of years after the recording I believe. |

RE: Mull. That "White People" series was on Cinemax which is probably why I've never seen it...would like to, it sounds funny (& Harry Shearer directed it). Apparently it's only on VHS at the moment.

BABY - the non music items are usually VERY popular with listeners - after 25+ years w/cds I think I'm going w/ some kind of thing! Must admit - your Goodwill comment is spot on... but we have a magnetic flashlight on our fridge that we use all the time (that my wife got at some work event). BRAIN STORM... what would be useful? (and around $2) |
