![]() Hey, music -- all right! |
![]() |
![]() Thanks for chiming in, bigplanetnoise! |
![]() |
![]() @Doug Yeah, you've got that. I'm pretty laid back and like to have fun with the rivalry, but I know a lot of people who aren't. Sports are supposed to be fun, right? |
![]() |
![]() @Phillippe Bastille I subscribe to the position that baseball isn't life or death. It's waaay more important than that. |
![]() |
![]() Well howdy, Fuzzy! Allow me to scrunch-scrunch you under your chin. |
![]() |
![]() Not in Baltimore... |
![]() |
![]() Hmmmm. Chimes. This Oliver tune which evolved from Lil Hardin's keyboard riff was the only one I easily recall. The chiming keyboard riff was Lil's signal to the boys in the band that break time was over. Chimes being related to bell or buzzer that was often used to signal time to workers and even like in school, the school bell. |
![]() |
![]() @Phillippe Bastille Maryland is my home state. I have rooted for the Orioles forever. Now I just root for whoever is playing the Yankees. |
![]() |
![]() WR steps up with THE KNOWLEDGE! Thanks, mate! |
![]() |
![]() Even on radio broadcasts the hour would be signaled by a "chime" and some had a chime riff for the network/ station identification. |

Doug, I think we have to assume that each artist is the "Bob Dylan of X," where X = home country.

![]() |
![]() This Itsutsu No Akai Fusen is amazingly soothing |
![]() |
![]() He does! |
![]() |
![]() Yes Doug, these Japanese tracks are very mainstream. Cutesy late 60s pop. But good for me to practice my minimal language knowledge. |
![]() |
![]() If you had the music videos for these tunes they are probably pretty campy. |
![]() |
![]() @Listener Gregory What about the bands we would describe as being the X of X where X is the band X, and the other X = home country? |
![]() |
![]() As with many cheesy, campy Bollywood tracks, the production values are rather rich. |

This is new to me. Always exciting to hear a Dolphy I haven't heard before.
![]() |
![]() @dutchtheo The ukelele player is Maso Rivera from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. A musical virtuoso, Rivera wrote over 1,000 compositions for the Cuatro, Puerto Rico's national instrument. He was also a TV and radio star in his home country for half a century. |
![]() |
![]() Playing a "Dolphy they haven't heard before" is one way a DJ earns his stripes. |

![]() Hi. But of a sound issue on a finetrack. Vinyl problem? |
![]() |
![]() Didn't know Maso Rivera. Read this about him: Puerto Rican Baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente presented him with one of his baseball bats. Upon Clemente's death in a plane crash in 1971, Rivera asked a local instruments luthier to assemble a cuatro out of that same bat, which he called "bate cuatro" (bat cuatro). |
![]() |
![]() Nope, doctorjazz. Something in the original recording. But it just doesn't matter. The music transcends the limitations of the lousy recording. |
