Iona Kwartet   Tune (Adriaan Valk)   Options Rhodoniet kwartet #1    The Iona Saxophone Quartet was founded in 1991 and consisted of Vincent Bergervoet (soprano saxophone), Annelies Hendriks (alto saxophone), Esther van den Berg (tenor saxophone) and Johan Kloosterhuis (baritone saxophone). Their goal was a fusion of spirituality and musical-technical control. Iona used the music and ideas of Adriaan Valk for this. The mythology and minerals of the island of Iona and the close relationship with the quartet Iona inspired him to create characteristic compositions. One example is the ‘Mineralcycle’ of the saxophone quartet, which he described as ‘an attempt to capture the individualities of these ‘slow-living’ stones in sounds.

OH YEAH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:01pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi verybody, welcome to today's show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:01pm Rich in Washington:

Gonna need some Formula 409 for this slime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:02pm Otis Fodder:

Hellooooo Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:02pm Rich in Washington:

Don Pardo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:04pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Rich, hi Otis, hi Georgy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:04pm Rich in Washington:

Zappa performing this song on Saturday Night Live was sort of a lifechanging experience for me as a kid. The actual slime pouring over the TV monitors. Just the kind of thing pre-teen me needed to see, apparently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:04pm Rich in Washington:

Hello DJ GeorgyGirl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Every pre-teen should see Frank Zappa :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:05pm Otis Fodder:

Great Zappa track... where or when it was I can't remember, but recently talking here at Sheen's about how we need more Zappa in the Jungle Room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:06pm Rich in Washington:

Yes. I remember that conversation. Maybe it's starting to happen. The Zappaning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:06pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow, Jan! Off like a bullet! Too cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Zappa and the The Tubes - magnificent :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:07pm Rich in Washington:

I can't believe The Tubes' Prairie Prince plays on the new Negativland album.
Fri. 10/4/19 2:07pm John from Florham park:

So far the streaming is ok on here
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:07pm Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks John!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:08pm Rich in Washington:

It's been pretty stable today, JfFp. Hoorah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Fabulous show start, Jan! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:08pm Otis Fodder:

It's funny how my intros are. For Zappa it was Valley Girl and The Tubes it was She's a Beauty, what was that, like 82 for both (god, I was 13 in '82) ... and then work my way in, deeper, and discover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:09pm Rich in Washington:

This whole album is fantastic. It's the first Tubes album I ever heard.
Avatar Fri. 10/4/19 2:09pm Mr Fab:

Hi Jan, and fellow frame followers. Jason, the end of your show is so funny when you interrupt yourself and you're like: whoa, I got to get out of here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bobby Brown for me ... and then later Joe's Garage :-)
Fri. 10/4/19 2:09pm John from Florham park:

@jan your welcome
Fri. 10/4/19 2:10pm John from Florham park:

@Rich good hope it stays that way too
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

In my room in the late 70s with the transistor under the covers :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:11pm Rich in Washington:

I remember some late-night DJ playing like a side or more of this album when I was a kid. I think I liked it because it had the same Zappa-type smartass vibe to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

We're both playing Todd Rundgren ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:12pm Rich in Washington:

I would buy all these solo Zappa albums out of the cut-out or dollar bin and would be disappointed because they were not quite like The Mothers of Invention. I didn't really know the difference at that point. I wished I'd kept them all now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mine's on Monday. lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:13pm Rich in Washington:

I want my DJ setup to look like Johnny Fever's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:14pm Otis Fodder:

I just want to move like Johnny Fever. Move like that adn I need take a short nap. Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:28pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love the background to this track - the spirituality of stones :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:30pm Jan Turkenburg:

He's quite a character, Adriaan Valk and you're never sure if he's serious or not.
Avatar Fri. 10/4/19 2:30pm Martinibomb:

Hi Jan and fellow jungle dwellers
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:31pm Jan Turkenburg:

HI MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

If I go quiet momentarily, it's because I put the heating on for a quick blast for the first time this season, and the radiator is right behind my back. So I'm a little bit toasty and relaxed listening to all this lovely, lush music :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:35pm Rich in Washington:

Crap! I missed ELO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:35pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Martinibomb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:35pm Jan Turkenburg:

Don't let your back catch fire Georgy ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:36pm Rich in Washington:

I love how they just sort of hint around that Johnny Fever is loaded on something but never quite get around to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love that her band is called Bande Dessinee ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There was an excellent comic book shop off the Champs Elysees in the 80s called B.D. :-) Happy memories :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:37pm Rich in Washington:

We've just fired our furnace up for the first time last week and it always has this peculiar burning toast smell when it hasn't been run for a while. Not heavy, just kind of noticeable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - same here. Very distinct kind of dusty smell but warm. I kind of like it :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:42pm Rich in Washington:

It's like a portent to cozy evenings inside while it's cold outside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:46pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

"Get out of the pub!" ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:49pm Rich in Washington:

That's a great ID!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 2:49pm Rich in Washington:

BTW: The ID you made for my show still works after I change the title/duration. Thanks again!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:31pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:31pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Sem! This is ehm... ah... uh... well... ok...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:34pm Jan Turkenburg:

Huub de Vriend is a fellow music teacher from The Hague. We've met a few times and one of his children songs, The Dinosaur Song was in my most sung top 3 in primary school classes, but he also composes the kind of fancy stuff you're hearing now.
Avatar Fri. 10/4/19 3:35pm Sem:

Hey, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:36pm Otis Fodder:

"Now That's (Orkest de Volharding) What I Call (Frame Duggy) Music (to work by)!" ... If only those comps were made of this. Love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:36pm Otis Fodder:

....and hello all, happy ducky weekend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:37pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:38pm Otis Fodder:

Hi Jan, been listening here at the desk, sidetracked as usual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:38pm Rich in Washington:

I'm gonna have to leave work and head home to prepare for my show. I'll be listening on my drive though. See y'all on the flip flop!

This is fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/4/19 3:46pm Otis Fodder:

Grand show Jan, happy weekend!
