I think I saw him on some Adult Swim show not too long ago.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm

Have you ever SEEN Jo-Ann Worley and Rip Taylor on TV together, GeorgyGirl? You may be onto something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think you may have something there ... ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have heard a long-held rumour that Mike Nesmith had a brief affair with Jo-Ann Worley and he wrote "Joanne" for her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm

This is SO craptacular! Now I wanna buy this.
Avatar 6:26pm

Linda@6:22, when gay was "camp" and most of America really didn't "get" it!! Incredible.

I should play some Doc Severinson tonight.
Avatar 6:30pm

i still can't figure out middle america & the gay..
Avatar 6:31pm

Lola Falana! she was very cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm

I was just reading about Alan Sues and how terrified he was of being outed :-(
Avatar 6:31pm
Linda Lee:

isn't that strange! gay was his whole shtick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ah! Lola Falana! Every time my friend Diane and I see a certain kind of pant suit, we yell "Lola Falana!" ;-)
Avatar 6:32pm
Linda Lee:

one of those women of the time that gave me certain feelings i couldn't describe.. :-)
Avatar 6:34pm
Linda Lee:

it's very, very weird to this day, mainstream american culture & the gay. performance is fine. entertainment is fine ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm just looking her up now - wow! She's 77!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - that whole "Oh - it's just an act"
Avatar 6:35pm
Don-O:

BTW: visually, Rodney is performing in the middle of a full suna-tub.

Watertown reference.
Avatar 6:36pm
Linda Lee:

right. just an act..
Avatar 6:37pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This show is magnificent :-)
Avatar 6:38pm
Linda Lee:

one of the Impressionists' favorites! impressionism was very big. remember? Frank Gorshin, Rich Little,..
Avatar 6:38pm
geezerette:

Yeah, it's really weird.
All the innuendo is based on fear or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Is it possible for me to clicky star this about a million times?
Avatar 6:39pm
Linda Lee:

i don't understand it, really, geezerette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

God, Rich Little!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Dear old Tony Newley :-) Good Bowie impersonation there ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Rich in Washington:

HA!
Avatar 6:41pm
Linda Lee:

impressionists creeped me out a bit. the way they'd turn away from the audience to change faces.. then turn again. especially Frank Gorshin! he was really creepy.
Avatar 6:41pm
Linda Lee:

haha! it's true! Bowie did Anthony Newley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
Rich in Washington:

This is insane! I would've hated this back in the day but now I really, REALLY want to watch this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Frank Gorshin was just weird. I loved "Batman" but hated The Riddler. Just too creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Please please please put some video clips of this on the Facebook group ... please please please.
Avatar 6:42pm
Mr Fab:

This has all gone beyond kitsch, and into the surreal. It's indistinguishable from an SCTV sketch.
Avatar 6:43pm
geezerette:

And this was considered sophisticated adult entertainment by most the country.
Last gasp of vaudeville / music hall.
Avatar 6:43pm
Otis Fodder:

Sorry, whew, got caught up there for a minute, mesmorized by Newley's eyebrows. All good now, composure intact. Only threw one pair of shorts onstage. Tom Jones would have had 2 pairs thrown.
Avatar 6:43pm
Linda Lee:

it's like bad coke, really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bad coke - which I suspect many of the performers had ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
Rich in Washington:

'77 Las Vegas still had that sleazy side to it - a far cry from the modern tourist family friendly Vegas.
Avatar 6:44pm
Don-O:

Here's the DVD! modcinema.com...
Avatar 6:45pm
Linda Lee:

hmmmm... coke might have been a bit counterculture. speed, though! :-D
Avatar 6:46pm

Here's the OTHER incredible Vegas DVD ModCinema has: modcinema.com...
Avatar 6:46pm
Mr Fab:

A Vegas barbeque at Wayne Newton's place, a ha ha ha! Gawd, this is hysterical.
Avatar 6:46pm
Linda Lee:

i liked the seedy aspect, myself. something beautiful about all that fading glitter in the middle of nowhere at all..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've often thought, while watching "Mad Men", given the sheer volume of vintage clothes and furniture on the set, how much it must have *reeked* of old cigarettes and booze in the grains of wood and fabric. there's no Febreze on earth strong enough to get rid of decades of nicotine and whisky. Las Vega s must have smelled like an ashtray back then. lol.
Avatar 6:47pm
Linda Lee:

my mother thought Wayne Newton was a dyke.
Avatar 6:47pm
Mr Fab:

PLEASE tell me there was a soundtrack album for this.
Avatar 6:48pm
geezerette:

Haha, Linda!
Avatar 6:48pm
Linda Lee:

the interiors smelled for sure.
were those clothes all original?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
Rich in Washington:

I used to think Wayne Newton songs were sung by a woman, like Danke Schoen.
Avatar 6:48pm
Don-O:

I hope that OST is in stereo!!!!
Avatar 6:49pm
Linda Lee:

if you see his picture, he does look like a cute butch lesbian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There *is* something faintly absurd about Vegas - in the most fabulous way - where someone decided to build nightclubs and casinos and theatres in the middle of sand. "You know what this place needs? Showgirls!" :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
Rich in Washington:

Maybe we'll find out that Wayne was a drag king all along. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
Rich in Washington:

That's some really tightly-wound plastic surgery going on there.
Avatar 6:50pm
Linda Lee:

my mom also thought Mae West was a transvestite.
she'd be vindicated, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

A large percentage of the clothes were vintage and then tailored/altered to fit. :-)
Avatar 6:50pm
geezerette:

I've been multitasking but this has been fabulous!!!
Jack Jones was married to Ann Margaret, I think.
Avatar 6:51pm
Otis Fodder:

I would like to order the deluxe vinyl box edition of this please, the 70s readers digest box version in colorful red, matching the color of the drapes and carpet. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Actually ... this is 77 Las Vegas ... where IS Ann-Margret???
Avatar 6:51pm
Linda Lee:

Vegas is *highly* absurd, GG.
it was magically absurd in '77 for sure ~ with those late 50s aesthetics!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
Rich in Washington:

Was this on a network? The DVD hype says it was on KBTV in Denver, but I wonder if that's just where the recording was made.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have a Reader's Digest Herb Alpert & Friends box set which is SCREAMING orange. I love it :-)
Avatar 6:52pm
Don-O:

Plastic surgery is made for this city. Ever seen the recent photos of Wayne, Sigfreid and Roy? Yup.....
Avatar 6:52pm
Linda Lee:

my gosh, are they still with us?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Which one was mauled by the tiger? He can't be alive still surely??
Avatar 6:53pm
geezerette:

Poor Sammy Davis. He was bigger than Vegas.
Avatar 6:54pm
Linda Lee:

what a strange little segment..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Sammy was bigger than the universe - he was *everything* <3
Avatar 6:54pm
Don-O:

This show was on ABC network. The station as an affiliated with the network. The DVD also has commercial both nation and local.
Avatar 6:54pm
Linda Lee:

it was Roy who was mauled. that ended his career.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Rich in Washington:

Ah. It seems very ABC.
Avatar 6:55pm
geezerette:

Hilarious vulgarity. POTUS should be an MC in a seedy Vegas lounge.
Avatar 6:55pm
Don-O:

There's a religious segment hosted by Dionne Warwick. It doesn't fit, but then it does.
Avatar 6:56pm
Linda Lee:

he's been a reality tv star. not too much different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm
