Back then it was really unusual; here on WFMU, that kind of show happens about once a month, and one of Mary Wing's weekly sets is devoted to "Three of a Kind", where the "Three" is interpreted very loosely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 8/5/19 9:42am annie:

there is a George Clooney movie called "The Descendants", nice vistas of the islands and a topical theme: how to handle the family members who want to sell your land..if i went to hawai'i i'd take aboat.

My trip to Hawaii was in a January. Hiked up to the summit of Mauna Loa and down the next day. I thought it'd be an ironic way to die if I got lost and froze to death in Hawaii. Also, visited the outhouse at night and noticed that, due to the high elevation, the stars were not twinkling.

  Mon. 8/5/19 10:40am The Butterman:

I have been obsessed with Bappi Lahiri since I first heard Bombay Disco cd on WFMU. After a couple of years I’m a birthday party at my sons friends house. It was a multi generational Indian family. I’m an artist so The father and bro in law bring me to the basement to see a drawing he was working on ( as a hobby) and I see a keyboard set up. So I tell him that I’m really into music, Indiana classical, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s Bollywood and anything related to Bappi Lahiri. Well this guy and his brother in law start screaming to each other “oh my he knows Bappi Lahiri, he knows Bappi Lahiri! They were ridiculously excited.
Avatar Mon. 8/5/19 10:43am Joe McG:

@Butterman: I like that story! And cool that you were turned on the music by FMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 8/5/19 10:44am Brian in UK:

Joe, there is still a lot of life in those singles. Flip sides, wrong speed, backwards!!!
Avatar Mon. 8/5/19 10:45am Joe McG:

@Brian: Yes, I'm going to have to start re-playing some of the ones I used to play when I first started the show. A lot of them haven't been played in years.
  Mon. 8/5/19 10:45am The Butterman:

Well, now I get that excited anytime the name Bappi Lahiri is spoken! I KNOW BAPPI LAHIRI!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 8/5/19 10:46am pantz:

That "Steel Guitar Rag" started out with the old "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" riff.
  Mon. 8/5/19 10:47am The Butterman:

And the drawing he wanted to show me was of an Native American woman’(Indian as we were taught growing up) posing next to a horse. I found this so ironic!

Over two hours and almost two dozen songs, Streisand received a stunning 17 standing ovations — earning every single one — for an energetic show that included her biggest hits (“People” and “Evergreen”), some Broadway gems (from “Into the Woods” and “Funny Girl”) and even a little disco (the Donna Summer duet “Enough is Enough”), building to a powerful political crescendo.
