What's the weather like over there, @Stanley?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:14am Stanley:

A little too hot for me. Enjoying the cooling effects of this space like piece
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:14am Mark R:

This France Jobim/Anne Guthrie track is beautiful
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:16am Lobstah Boy:

At first glance, I thought that read António Carlos Jobim and Arlo Guthrie. Good morning, D:O nuts!
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 9:16am coelacanth∅:

good morning Jeff and OUTies
...listening *almost* from the top today, though i might go back to bed -so also in lurk mode
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:19am Jeff Golick:

Hey, Mark R. Yeah, I'm a sucker for field recordings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:20am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, Lobstah Boy. Hope you're having a wicked good time in Vacationland.

If only the Sawx would lay a fingah on the Yankeez. Good lawd!
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:25am Mark R:

That Jefre Cantu-Ledesma album is a revelation, too--only 3 tracks on it, all gems!
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:26am Mark R:

Ya laid 3 fingers on 'em last weekend, then you collapsed from the effort, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:26am doctorjazz:

Hi all! Busy board! Going to take the pooches(and DO) out before it's too hot.
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:27am Mark R:

Actually I'm mixed up, Jeff--I'm thinking of Jefre's new album, "Tracing Back the Radiance."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:28am Jeff Golick:

Mark, I almost played something from that record, so get out of my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:29am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @doctorjazz! Will try to play some good dog walking music. (You got multiple doggos now?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:30am doctorjazz:

Davis with James Newton, flute. Great stuff!
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:30am Mark R:

Well, the tracks on the new one are all so friggin' long, they tend to dominate a set (not that that's always a BAD thing). BTW I've got the windows open for some fresh air in the brief few morning hours before the heat overtakes us, and your show is going nicely with the cicadas in the trees (although I'd say the cicadas are louder!)
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:32am Mark R:

Solution: Turn the volume of D:O WAY up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:32am doctorjazz:

We've got one (Ozzie), and my younger daughter (who's home from college for the summer) has another (Maxie). So, for the summer we have 2.
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:33am Mark R:

That IS some tasty flute, dr. jazz!
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:33am Mark R:

We have two permanent canine residents, but they're relaxing on the floor to this music.
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 9:35am Sem:

Good morning, JG, D:O folk, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:36am Jeff Golick:

Good morning to you, @Sem! Welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:37am Jeff Golick:

I generally do the last dog walk of the evening here, and the highlight over the summer has been going by Prospect Park and being serenaded by the cicadas.
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:40am Mark R:

Intakt is starting to release some really interesting albums, I've noticed. They just released a gorgeous album of entirely improvised music by the pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and the violinist Mark Feldman.
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:42am Doug Schulkind:

The last dog walk of the evening sounds like the pooch gets multiple evening walks. That dog’s living large!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:43am Jeff Golick:

Not really -- that should really be "last walk of the day."
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:44am Mark R:

It's staying light out til 8 o'clock so the last walk of the day is sort of an evening walk
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:48am fleep:

More or less conscious and awake greetings
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:50am Mark R:

Maybe Jefre's French.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:55am Jeff Golick:

Agreed re Intakt, @Mark R! They have a more varied list than one might think. Do you know this record: www.discogs.com... -- really fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 9:56am Jeff Golick:

@fleep! I feel ya, buddy.
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:56am Mark R:

Don't know that record, Jeff--in fact, I really only heard of Intakt rather recently. I'll check that one out!
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 9:57am duke:

Hello Jeff and out there types
  Sun. 8/4/19 9:58am Doug Schulkind:

I am currently residing on Deer Isle, which is connected, by narrow causeway, to Little Deer Isle, which itself is connected to the mainland via the iconic Deer Isle Bridge spanning Eggemoggin Reach: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deer_Isle_Bridge
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:00am Jeff Golick:

Hi-dee-ho, @duke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:02am Jeff Golick:

@Doug: I had typed Deer Isle on entering that song title, but a double-check of the j-card, and yeah it is "Dear" -- hmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:03am Jeff Golick:

Also: I am jealous of your current situation.
  Sun. 8/4/19 10:05am Doug Schulkind:

It seems I am performing the last dog walk of the day here as well. Some things are universal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:06am Mayuko:

Good morning, Jeff G and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:07am doctorjazz:

Transgression... Was a great, hot weather dog walk track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:08am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Mayuko! Great to see you!
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 10:13am hyde:

hmmm, i think i want this record
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:15am Jeff Golick:

Recommended, @hyde!
  Sun. 8/4/19 10:24am Listener Gregory:

I ran out to get coffee, and this is very strange music to return to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:26am Jeff Golick:

Just doing my job, @LG.
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 10:33am duke:

Going to church, so long heathens
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:36am Jeff Golick:

Bye, @duke! Pray for us.
  Sun. 8/4/19 10:37am Listener Gregory:

The existence of this record (Armstrong) is also deeply weird, but it surprisingly works.
  Sun. 8/4/19 10:41am Doug Schulkind:

I first heard that Louis Armstrong cover on the radio in around 1980 and began searching for it. When I moved to NYC in’83, I would go into record stores and ask the clerks in the jazz section about it and most had never heard of it. I will never forget the employee at J&R Music World who literally laughed at me thinking I had made it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:45am Jeff Golick:

Who gets the last laugh now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:46am Jeff Golick:

Overall that's a deeply strange Armstrong record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:48am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Is it last call for last laughs? Hit me! Howdy! Ha HA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:49am Jeff Golick:

@Granny Spicy Tuna! Laughing beats crying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:50am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Jeff, word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:51am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

This music is totally hitting the spot for me, by the way. And we need more names like Eggemoggin.
  Sun. 8/4/19 10:53am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, I heard it first on your show, and then I bought it. J&R would still be in business if only they had listened to you.
  Sun. 8/4/19 10:54am Listener Gregory:

I lost the red marker that I need to label all my boxes for moving later this week, so I was going to have to kill myself. However, I decided to wait until the end of the show. Then I found the marker. Thanks, Jeff. You saved my life again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:55am doctorjazz:

That Novik is great...another fine Tzadik record. (Wonder if Zorn is still selling that limited edition record to recoup some of the losses from a crowd funding disaster)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:56am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Listener Gregory: thanks, i am laughing so hard i actually have tears in my eyes
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:56am doctorjazz:

And Angles 9 I first heard here, are a monster band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:56am Jeff Golick:

@LG: moving?? Holy cow -- will pray for you.

@doc: I think that yes, that's what Zorn is trying to do with the ltd ed stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 10:59am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

The only best part about getting to d:O late is i'll have something to listen to during the lonely hours until the next GTDR program
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:00am doctorjazz:

I just searched it, the 4 LP limited edition Zorn box is still listed for sale. I would have bought it a while back, but I got stuck deciding whether to go for the signed version (at twice the price), orthe regularversion. Still stuck...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:00am Mayuko:

This is very cool. The whole set has been really great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:02am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

This set is blowing my mind. And i am laughing yet again at all the other track titles on this album. yes!
  Sun. 8/4/19 11:03am Listener Gregory:

Angles 9 are truly great. Back to lurking= packing.
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:09am hyde:

heh, i always think of this tune as the background music for the Research and Development promo on WMBR
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:14am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for hanging in, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:14am Dave in Vermont:

I clicky-star and seconds later a cow-worker walks by and says "more atonal bullshit, huh?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:14am doctorjazz:

Wearing out my clicky star finger...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:15am Dave in Vermont:

*co-worker
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:17am Jeff Golick:

@Dave in VT! "more atonal bullshit" is basically my middle name. At least they know you...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:22am Stanley:

Yes
  Sun. 8/4/19 11:22am Doug Schulkind:

Happy birthday, Roscoe (yesterday). Happy birthday Louis (today)!
  Sun. 8/4/19 11:23am Listener Gregory:

In VT, co-workers are cow-workers.
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:25am coelacanth∅:

(and probably kowtow workers)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:26am Jeff Golick:

I'm concerned for my music files. Why would a song that looks to be complete (in file explorer, say) only be 50-odd seconds long when dragged into my music player?
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:28am coelacanth∅:

that's bad. did that happen with more than one song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:28am doctorjazz:

Ahhh, forgot Louis Armstrong had 2 birthdays (July 4 and August 4). That means WKCR will be playing Armstrong exclusively for 24 hours. Something to check out later, as I brave traffic to Brooklyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:30am Jeff Golick:

@coel: yeah, it happens now and again. I'm fearing there's a certain amount of corruption?
  Sun. 8/4/19 11:31am Doug Schulkind:

WKCR is playing 24 hours of Armstrong right now. You can go listen! In 30 minutes!
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:34am coelacanth∅:

Jeff im not a computer guy but it does seem that way. i've only had that happen ripping and burning cds, when it says "rip complete" or burn complete and it's 1/2 the song.
...maybe those files didn't upload/download right in the first place?
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:40am hyde:

this is killer
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:43am doctorjazz:

Great music, thanks, Jeff! Nice week all! Much lobster, Doug!
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:45am hyde:

with files, things do go wrong in copying/transferring. need to do the md5 signature thing if you want to make sure everything transferred with integrity. we do this for image files at my job...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:46am Jeff Golick:

Thanks @doc, and thanks, @hyde. What would one use to identify the "md5 signature thing?"
  Sun. 8/4/19 11:47am Listener Gregory:

Louis Armstrong celebrated his 71st birthday and died a few weeks later at the age of 69. (Or some such ages.) Heard from Phil Schaap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:47am doctorjazz:

Thought I detected a David Murray theme in there...
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:51am hyde:

@JG an md5 signature is basically just a hash value that acts as a fingerprint for a file. there are assorted programs that can generate them, or there's online places that can also do it. you create a hash for the file, and then check the signature on the file after transfer. if they don't match, something went wrong...
Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 11:52am hyde:

our batch builder software for the digital repository generates them automatically. but i've used this program in the past to make them: www.md5summer.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:53am doctorjazz:

Love this Miles!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:54am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @hyde. I'm already lost. I'll make a hash of everything, I'm sure. Appreciate the help (and link), though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 11:54am Scraps:

At the Well many many years ago it was common (even a cliché) to refer to your “cow-orkers”.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 8/4/19 12:00pm Scraps:

  Sun. 8/4/19 12:03pm Listener Gregory:

Most of the Silent Way band is alive and still active, 50 years later.
  Sun. 8/4/19 12:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Sun. 8/4/19 12:07pm coelacanth∅:
