Good morning Jeff and those headed out (not me, it's way too hot)

Morning, Jeff and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am
Jeff Golick:

Warm (bordering on sweaty) greetings, @fred and @listener james!
  9:08am
Doug Schulkind:

See you in an hour. Save me some astonishments!

Am wearing my Woof-Moo t-shirt, so I am ready for action.

Take care of your chakras, @Doug.

Jeff Golick:

@Listener Gregory: the modern knight's armor. Glad to have you aboard!
  9:10am
Listener Gregory:

Jeff, you probably didn't hear the Abdullah Ibrahim interview on NPR at about 8:55. My takeaway: 1. He is a very spiritual person; 2. he has a new album coming out. You are only a few letters off from starting the show with him.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:13am
fred:

I did get an appreciative comment about my WFMU T-shirt from Daniel Menche this week. It meant something to me, I love his music
  9:17am
Listener Gregory:

"I fain would lie doon." This doesn't end well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am
Jeff Golick:

@LG: missed that, indeed. Should try to get to that album...

@fred: very cool! I got a random "FMU!" shout-out on the sidewalk recently, too. Never sure what to say in return. "Yeah!"
  9:21am
Listener Gregory:

Once you get to the point of faining there is nothing medical science can do.

It's bad news all the way doon.

Sadly, I missed Joe McPhee this week. But I really liked the dance show I saw that day, despite the classical vocabulary. So I can't complain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am
Jeff Golick:

@holland oats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: making those tough choices. It's like FMU on a random weekday...
  9:27am
Listener Gregory:

I imagine this as background music to Lord Ronald's funeral (though I had always seen that song as "Lord Randall").

Speaking of tough choices: I missed what looked like a great show on Friday, spending the day at the Paris art school instead (open doors day). I didn't know anyone there anymore, but it was so great. And maybe I do know some people there by now
Avatar 9:49am
northguineahills:

Last night, there was a noise show at a big show. I talked my way in by saying I was on the list (I wasn't), as I was skint. It's not the first time. When I have income, I more then amply compensate venues and artists (and buy any merch), but, I don't have that luxury.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am
Jeff Golick:

Ah, that sounds sweet, @fred. What is "the Paris art school?"

Liz Phair was playing a free outdoor concert in Prospect Park last night (Prospect Park is basically Brooklyn's Central Park). I walked the dog by the park and got to hear a couple of songs. Sort of.
Avatar 9:50am
northguineahills:

I haven't heard this Dixon/Taylor before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am
Jeff Golick:

It's brand new, @ngh.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:55am
fred:

@Jeff: Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, I think. I've been taking a Friday off work to go to that open doors day for years. The place is so sprawling I still find new places each year, and one day isn't enough if I spend time chatting with artists there, which I tend to do
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am
Jeff Golick:

Wow, sounds amazing, @fred. Are most of the artists young people?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am
coelacanth∅:

'morning Jeff, OUTies
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:59am
fred:

Yeah, they're students in their twenties. It's also a very international crowd. Though I don't remember meeting any American one, which sounds weird come to think of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am
Jeff Golick:

Hey there, @coelacanth∅!
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:07am
fred:

I'm so old they first think I'm either an arts teacher, an artist, or a potential patron. But they're usually almost relieved when I say I'm none of the above. Makes for really cool conversations about art and stuff
  10:11am
Listener Gregory:

Wikipedia identifies the ballad as "Lord Randall" and points out that the first line of each verse of Dylan's "Hard Rain" is taken from the song ("Where have you been my blue-eyed son," etc.). However, Dylan leaves out the "fain," and so things end somewhat better.

i used to drive that western mass/new york thing every weekend. i don't miss it!

I have spent many hours recently on the Taconic State Parkway. I even have happy memories of my grandmother crashing us during a rainstorm on it. Those were the days!
Avatar 🦀 10:18am
hyde:

also why is my name blue
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:18am
fred:

@Listener Gregory: wind is picking up, and I hope a rainstorm is coming. It's been way too hot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
Jeff Golick:

My only advice re the Taconic is to obey the speed limit at all times. And best to take it during daylight hours, if possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
Jeff Golick:

@hyde: not a mood ring sort of thing. Mine's blue (on my machine), too. I just think it means you've clicked on it recently.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:20am
fred:

@hyde: that just means you clicked on your profile at some point
Avatar 🦀 10:21am
hyde:

huh, i never noticed that before. i think i did look at my liked songs
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:23am
fred:

@hyde: The colors depend on the playlist color scheme, so it's more obvious on some than others
  10:25am
Listener Gregory:

@Jeff, I don't quite obey the limit, but definitely agree about daylight. Some say it's the most dangerous highway in NY. But it's lovely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am
Jeff Golick:

That Previte band was pretty great: Anthony Cox, Don Byron, Marty Ehrlich, Graham Haynes, Anthony Davis, Robin Eubanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Stanley:

Traffic had an album called Traffic but not a track on it called Traffic.
That's all I've got to say on the subject.
Avatar 🦀 10:35am
hyde:

@fred that makes sense on why i didn't notice it--was last posting at the Explorer's Room, where everyone is red all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am

Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:41am

Anything from the soundtrack to Heavy Traffic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am
Jeff Golick:

@fred: No! What was Lauren up to?

@UM: No! What was I thinking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am

and it wasn't "crosstown" so never mind that...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am

  10:54am
Listener Gregory:

This set is surprisingly matching the very nice weather I am experiencing.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:58am
fred:

@Jeff: Nothing special, he's a really nice guy. I see him at shows once in a while. I had fun pointing out he had more plays on the station than Boulez, but he's not playing that game
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
Jeff Golick:

Heh. Well, you tried.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am
coelacanth∅:

i have to go get into my car and drive to go see another car, hopefully which i'll decide is the car i'd rather get into traffic jams in.
Thanks Jeff -Happy Motoring!
  11:02am
Listener Gregory:

Jeff, do you have a database that helps you identify cuts with "traffic" in the title, or did you just recall all of these? I could come up with Jimi Hendrix, and then I would be stumped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am
Jeff Golick:

Digital search helps immensely, @LG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am
Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @coel! Wishing you clear roads ahead. PS. You called the next tune...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
Jeff Golick:

Ayo, Doug!
S'up, @rw!

@fred: is the final e in boue silent?
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:28am
fred:

@Jeff: yeah, most of these are, unless you're singing some "chanson réaliste", which tend to add "e" even where there's none
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 11:38am

The Call is something to hear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am
