@Andrew: Saw them a few years ago and they were great! @EG: Thanks! @krppr: I always say start with "Switched On" and "Transient Random Bursts blaha blah" and go from there. Their later albums are more esoteric, but still interesting.

Hey Joe. Why do people wallpaper ceilings? This thought has crossed my mind several times today as I scrape AND the wallpaper stripper has broken.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:46am
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Brian in UK: it sounds like someone had too much coffee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am
Phillippe Bastille:

@Granny sounds about right. As long as it is leisurely and sharp objects are left at home.
Avatar 9:47am
βrian:

When wallpaper is properly applied, with sizing, you don't even need a stripper to get it off. So you may curse whoever put it there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am
Andrew Waterloo:

I think wallpaper masks a lot of the undesirable character in plastered ceilings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am
Phillippe Bastille:

@Brian I cannot even imagine how difficult putting wallpaper up on the ceiling would be, let alone removing it. And I'm sure scissors are involved in that equation somehow.

@tim I didn't move to Detroit area until '91 but in '81 I moved to Sarnia Ontario which is on the Michigan border about 60 miles from Detroit - that's when I started listening to Detroit radio. Yes I learned that J. Geils Band was really big in Detroit!

Peter Wolf is the og zelig of rocknroll. Still making great records & leaving his rubber soul on the stage.

Speaking of sketchy characters in bands, I love the description of Mitch Ryder's band Detroit in the Detroit music oral history Detroit Rock City. The joke around the scene was band tryouts for the band Detroit consisted of opening the the county jail doors.

@tim that's funny

One time at the store a cop rushed in to buy a J Geils record for Wolf to sign, all breathless and starstruck. We joked that he must have been new on the beat-- it's hard *not* to spot Peter Wolf in Harvard Square!

@randy - cool! I'm a Michigan dude myself. In high school, there's be a twice annual field trip to Stratford. We'd cross over through Port Huron/Sarnia.

@TFC: Me, too. In fact Ann Arbor is still the center of the world to me.

There's a restaurant here in Waterloo that the J. Geil's band used to frequent. The owner used to run a great blues bar

I hear you Brian! In my humble opinion Michigan historically and currently is the best music state in the whole world.

@Oscar does he still hang around there? If so I should make a day trip like I used to and watch for him.

@tim very cool! I've been to Stratford a couple of times back in the 70's/80's when I still lived in Canada.
@Brian my son lives in Ann Arbor going to University of Michigan but it's funny he doesn't care for Ann Arbor. He's in Silicon Valley CA right now for summer internship and loves it there, said that's where he hopes to get a full time job and live.

@melinda To the best of my knowledge-- he was still a regular fixture when I left the store a few years ago. He's pretty unmistakable!

you turn a melancholic morning into something sweetly hopeful. I saw Sachiko Kanenobu at Summer Stage on Saturday. Did I dream it or did she sing: "do you think i'm sexy?" in Japanese?

Glad you enjoyed that, Trista! Thank you so much, emily. I missed the Saturday show, but I doubt she sang that one! :)

Dare I say that Fairport's Meet On The Ledge is a modernish take on the Circle.

Can a circle even be broken? Seems to me it would be just a line then... Thanks Joe.
